The joint initiative by Acronis and Minterest aims to help businesses combat COVID-19 disruptions and remain resilient and #CyberFit despite the pandemic.

Acronis, a global leader in cyber protection, and Minterest, a leading Singapore-based online financial services solutions provider, have joined forces to launch Acronis #CyberFit Financing, Powered by Minterest to provide Singapore-based businesses with financing support.
The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has forced businesses globally to operate remotely and people – to work from home.
Very often, they work with unsecured digital networks and are vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
“Cybercriminals are ruthless – they see the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to target new vulnerabilities such as those caused by many staff migrating to home offices. Now more than ever, cyber protection should be a key concern for every business, as a data breach that costs a company valuable data can cripple even large organisations. Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud is a solution we have developed to combat this global threat. Acronis is dedicated to doing our part to help businesses both in the digital and the real world. With support from our capable partners at Minterest, we hope to provide streamlined access to vital funding to ensure business continuity for as many Singapore businesses as possible,” said Serguei Beloussov, Founder and CEO of Acronis.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, essential services such as supermarkets, drug stores, medical services, mechanical services, police, and governmental agencies will need cyber protection to be #CyberFit so their IT infrastructure remains protected and operational.
Beyond the heightened cybersecurity risk, with the coronavirus outbreak slowing down economies and disrupting supply chain networks, many managed service providers, hosting companies, SMEs and home businesses are also faced with urgent cash flow issues.
As a cyber protection company, Acronis aims to help organisations safeguard their data, applications, and systems so they can remain productive and avoid costly downtime.
Through this partnership, Acronis and Minterest hope to empower businesses by providing easy access to customised financing solutions to tide them through this difficult period and to build their cybersecurity capabilities to ringfence their businesses.

The system consists of a device with a camera, temperature screening and a scanner that reads the identification card of a visitor for an integrated safe entry experience. As the solution is also a self-service system, workplaces can reduce manpower managing entry stations.

Canon’s new all-in-one entry-control system: FACTS.
Canon Singapore announced today the launch of a digital check-in solution which enables businesses to facilitate contactless, fast and easy temperature screening and entry/exit recording for staff and customers.
Benefits
- Single system to screen visitors’ temperature and facilitate safe entry check in.
- Self-service system lets workplaces reduce manpower at entry stations.
- Contactless and fast: Entry experience can be completed within seconds.
The solution, which is known as Facial Access Control Temperature System (FACTS), uses an 8-inch tablet which combines the functions of a camera, infrared thermography, near-field communication (NFC) device, barcode scanner and data storage.
The tablet is a third-party device distributed by Canon Singapore.
To check in, visitors should stand within 0.5 to 0.7metre from the device to have their temperature screened via the infrared thermography.
If the visitor’s temperature is within a predetermined range, a green text box will be shown to indicate that the visitor has passed the temperature screening.
Why FACTS?
A key barrier to having a fast digital-check in process is the need to use multiple devices such as a thermometer, camera and barcode scanner to get the visitor’s temperature and identity separately.
By using FACTS, visitors can complete their safe entry digital check-in within a few seconds.
This is possible with a software which integrates several functions including facial detection, infrared thermography, barcode scanning and data entry and storage in the device.
This will be accompanied by an automated voice message which says, “temperature normal”.
The device will then request for the visitor’s identity, which can be quickly obtained by scanning the visitor’s identification cards such as NRIC (the latest digital version is also accepted) and driver’s license at the barcode scanner.
The device also can be set to automatically take a photo of the visitor, if required.
It takes just a few seconds to complete the entire process.
FACTS can also be used to facilitate the use of Singapore’s national digital check-in system, SafeEntry, to help retail stores, offices and other businesses comply with safe management measures at the workplace.
More details below from the press release.

2017 Norton Cyber Security Insights Report reveals one in two Singaporeans identified as victims of cyber crime. Edmund shares his personal experience with cyber crime.

“My daughter was cyberbullied by some close friends in secondary school. As a parent, I was saddened and shocked that this had occurred. During that period, my daughter refused to go to school and even became skeptical of relationships,” said actor Edmund Chen.
Even though consumers feel confident they are safe online, hackers have proven otherwise, stealing US$172 billion from 978 million consumers in 20 countries in the past year.
This is according to the Norton by Symantec 2017 Norton Cyber Security Insights Report (NCSIR) released today.

“Consumers’ online behavior reveal a dangerous disconnect. Despite a steady stream of cyber crime sprees reported by media, too many people appear to feel invincible and skip taking even basic precautions to protect themselves. This disconnect highlights the need for consumer digital safety and the urgency for consumers to get back to basics when it comes to doing their part to prevent cyber crime,” said Gavin Lowth, Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, Norton by Symantec.
The effects of cyber crime can extend beyond pure monetary impact as actor Edmund Chen can attest.

The new ESET Smart TV Security was showcased during MWC 2018 to protect against targeted malware attacks on connected TVs and other devices with the Android TV operating system.

According to statistics, there could be as many as 30 billion devices connected to the internet by 2020. While these gadgets bring numerous benefits to households, they also pose a threat to consumers’ everyday lives.
Smart TVs – with their microphones, cameras and USB ports – are increasingly becoming prime targets for malware attacks.
“Given the risks to security and privacy, consumers need to think about protecting smart home devices in the same way they would protect their laptops, tablets or mobiles – they cannot treat them like an average TV, kettle, or watch,” said Branislav Orlik, Mobile Security Product Manager at ESET.
By gaining control over a smart TV, cybercriminals can not only attack other devices on the user’s home network but also spy on individuals to gather sensitive and personal data.
Smart TVs with Android TV OS will also undoubtedly contribute to the spread of Android ransomware, which has already been persistently targeting Android devices for a number of years.
The threat has now crossed over to Android TVs, as incidents of smart TV screen-locks and ransom demands reported in the news have illustrated.
The ESET Smart TV Security application protects consumers with the following security features.
- Antivirus protection safeguards against increasing levels of Android malware.
- Anti-ransomware technology combats screen-locks.
- Multi-device scanning for malware on devices and USBs that connect to the smart TV.
- Anti-phishing to protect users from attempts to steal sensitive, personal information. This feature will be available only in the premium version of ESET Smart TV Security.
If ransomware is activated, users are advised to switch their smart TV off/on while the virus database is updated and scanning is initiated.
“Users need to feel safe in the knowledge that they can watch their favourite shows and browse the internet on their smartphones without fear of being watched or having their personal data compromised. ESET is the top-rated provider of security solutions for Android OS devices, so we are the smart choice for consumers to ensure all the devices in their homes, and the data they collect, are kept secure,” explains Orlik.
When ESET Smart TV Security detects ransomware on the device, the user is advised to uninstall the malware.
Once uninstall is confirmed, the ransomware will be cleared.
ESET’s Smart TV Security is available for download via Google Play, and can only be downloaded from a user’s TV device.
Once installed, users will be protected by ESET across their entire Android ecosystem – both smartphone and TV.
