Software testing is key when deploying and managing any Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Bla Sweeney at Keysight Technologies shares three important aspects to consider.
Embracing test automation for PLM software increases testing efficiency and frees teams up to focus on other important work, hitting release dates earlier and enhancing agility.
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems support vital functions throughout successful high-tech manufacturing, software, and electronics companies.
Initially beneficial for engineering teams, PLM now benefits every department involved in a product’s lifecycle by providing the right information in a timely fashion and assisting in production, planning, control, and revenue strategies.
Just as the ripple effect of PLM’s benefits can be felt throughout an organisation, any deployment errors can have a widespread negative impact on business operations.

The CrowdStrike outage was a vivid reminder of how interconnected the world’s systems are – and how dramatically every organisation can be affected. In the aftermath of the outage, Bla Sweeney at Keysight Technologies shares how every C-suite needs to be asking: how do we mitigate the risk of systemic software failure in our organisation?
Four suggestions that provide food for thought as we pursue the quest of building resilience into our systems, and minimising risks at both the systemic and organisational levels.
Before answering, let’s look at how and why we became so reliant on third party software.
The original software development lifecycle
Not too many years ago, the software development lifecycle (SDLC) took months, if not years.
Software was installed on-premise. We would only deploy it after extensive and exhaustive testing. Each time we wanted to upgrade the software to a newer, stable release, we’d go through the same process again. Some organizations did this each year. Many more waited several years because the investment in time and money was too much to consider on an annual basis.
The process was incredibly costly and inefficient. On the other hand, we were in control of our own destinies when something went wrong.
What changed?
Every company is a tech company
Well, everything changed.

The automotive world is evolving rapidly, and the power of hardware is being superseded by the power of software. This means the old ways of doing things are rapidly becoming obsolete, especially in the testing space. Nick Hudson from Keysight Technologies shares how you can embrace the change and be at the forefront of the new world.
As the widespread rollout of fully autonomous vehicles comes ever closer, the accepted in-car setup is going to change beyond all recognition.
Just a few short years ago, the automotive human machine interface (HMI) was limited to dashboard instrument clusters, steering wheel controls, and centre stack controls.
Today, a vehicle is likely to have all that, plus voice recognition systems, digital interfaces, an in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system that connects to your phone, and even head-up displays (HUDs).
And the evolution of automotive HMIs isn’t slowing down any time soon.
When the vehicle is in control, having all controls centred around the steering wheel and the driver’s 30-degree viewing angle is no longer necessary.

In our digital world, software is the engine that drives us forward. Companies can only grow if their software infrastructure allows. Anna McCowan from Keysight Technologies shares what happens when your in-house tools cannot keep up with emerging technologies, software innovation, or your future business goals.
Software testing is an essential part of the software development lifecycle. It ensures that applications are high quality, meet end-user requirements, and are free from defects or bugs.
Keysight commissioned Forrester Consulting to survey software testing decision-makers at global enterprises to research their current software testing approach and how their approach will impact their future business decisions.
Weighing the pros and cons of in-house testing vs. automated software testing solutions
Many organisations use their resources and expertise to perform software testing in-house.
However, as Forrester found, decision-makers have several compelling reasons to move to a commercial software testing solution from an in-house one.
Commercial software testing
Commercial software testing solutions are designed to help organisations improve the quality of their software and reduce time-to-market.
By leveraging the latest testing tools, methodologies, and best practices, these solutions can help organisations identify defects and bugs earlier in the software development lifecycle.

Singapore kids-tech company myFirst has launched a social community app for children – myFirst Circle. It provides a safe, walled social network for kids that enables their parents to monitor, control and guide them on the dos and don’ts of posting and interacting on social networks.
myFirst Circle can be downloaded from the App Store for Apple iOS devices or Google Play for Android smartphones or tablets. It can also be accessed through a myFirst Fone smartwatch.
The new myFirst App provides a social community platform where children can post and share messages, photos and videos with their family and friends.
The parents are able to monitor and control who their children allow into their “circles” of family, besties and friends, as well as the information that they share with these circles.
Parents may change a child’s post settings to enable access by “lower” circles (eg. Acquaintances) or to restrict access to only the inner circles (eg. Family and/or Besties).
This enables parents to supervise and guide their children on the etiquette and precautions to take when sharing on online social networks so that when they are old enough to get onto “grown-up” social networks such as Facebook, Instagram etc, they would be well-coached on the ins-and-outs of sharing media on these networks as well as dos and don’ts in interacting with others on the Web.
Basically, contacts can be accepted into one of four circles: Family, Besties, Friends and Acquaintances.
These four hierarchical circles determine which of a child’s posts that other members of a his/her circle can and cannot see.
For example, all members in a child’s Family circle will be able to see EVERYTHING the child shares.
Those in the Acquaintances circle will have access to the least number of posts.
Founder and CEO of myFirst – G-Jay Yong – briefs how children can access the app through myFirst Fone S3 smartwatch.
So if a child marks a photo as viewable by Besties, only members of his/her Family and Besties circles will see the photo.

The losses were due to system crashes, human error and cyberattacks. The Acronis Cyber Protection Week Global Report 2022 highlights growing threats and need for integrated cyber protection solutions.
The annual Cyber Protection Week Global Report 2022 surveyed more than 6,200 IT users and IT managers from small businesses to enterprises across 22 countries.
Acronis has released its annual Cyber Protection Week Global Report 2022 timed to this year’s World Backup Day.
“As the entire world is increasingly at risk from different types of attacks, accelerating to universal all-in-one solutions is the only way to achieve truly complete cyber protection. And that’s precisely the problem Acronis has set out to solve. Attackers don’t discriminate when it comes to means or targets, so strong and reliable security is no longer an option, it’s a necessity,” says Candid Wuest, Acronis V.P. of Cyber Protection Research.
The report exposes some of the most critical shortcomings appearing in cyber protection practices today and examines why they’re appearing, offering guidance on how they can be fixed.
One of the key findings last year was that 80% of organizations ran as many as 10 solutions simultaneously for data protection and cybersecurity — yet more than half of them suffered downtime because of data loss.
So more solutions do not necessarily translate into more protection.
This year, the trend seems to be getting worse.
While 78% of organizations globally run as many as 10 different solutions, 76% of organizations experienced downtime due to data loss — a 25% increase from 2021.

Tech Focus: Three Critical Considerations for Successful Product Lifecycle Management Testing
Friday, September 27th, 2024Software testing is key when deploying and managing any Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Bla Sweeney at Keysight Technologies shares three important aspects to consider.
