Belkin has embraced greater sustainability in the materials it uses in its products, as well as in its packaging.

Belkin is already on its way to becoming 100% carbon neutral in scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2025. Its commitment to review all areas of the business has included a focus on reducing single use plastics in packaging which has seen up to 90% reduction in plastic usage in some products.
In the name of sustainability, Belkin is adopting more responsible ways of building and packaging its consumer electronics products.
Beginning with its top selling mobile power products, several of Belkin’s most popular wireless chargers, power banks, wall chargers, and car chargers will receive updated product housing materials that consist of 73-75% post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR) and plastic-free packaging.

Belkin is currently working towards carbon neutrality in scope 3 emissions.
The product transition will be rolled out beginning 2023 and will save an estimated 7,000 metric tons of carbon emissions and reduce CO2-eq emissions for these products by up to 67%.
More details below from the press release.

Dell research suggests that Singapore and the APJ lags the world in its “Breakthrough Benchmark” – a measure of the readiness for digital transformation.

Dell Technologies’ research from over 40 countries details how despite two years of accelerated digital transformation, only 5% of the Singapore workforce has an appetite for digital change. Click to enlarge.
I was looking through a study report from Dell on digital transformation and couldn’t help but notice that the survey results seem to indicate that Singapore and APJ seems to lag the global index for its “Breakthrough Benchmark”.
The survey of 10,500 respondents from around the world measured participants’ readiness for technological change and placed them in four benchmark groups:
- Sprint: Traiblazers ready to chase after innovation and technological change.
- Steady: Poised to adopt technological change selected by others.
- Slow: More inclined to hold back and observe / deliberate rather than take action.
- Still: Take a pessimistic view of innovation based on perceived risk. Tend to anticipate problems and resist proposed technology innovations based on perceived risk.
Respondents in the “Sprint”and “Steady” groups tend to be more confident that they or their organisation will advance in areas of technology adoption, while respondents in the “Slow” and “Still” groups are more likely to see the potential risks involved and retreat.

The Philips 2021 global sleep survey finds that Singaporeans now average 6.8 hrs of sleep per night, down from 7 hours in the 2020 survey.

A year since the start of COVID-19, Singaporeans’ sleep issues loom large.
The Philips 2021 global sleep survey, in its sixth annual installment, is being released to mark World Sleep Day tomorrow.
Online Sleep Quiz and Home Sleep Test
In conjunction with World Sleep Day, Philips has launched an Online Sleep Quiz and Home Sleep Test for individuals to assess their sleep issues and get diagnosed for OSA.
Participants who are assessed as having a high risk of OSA through the online sleep quiz will be offered a home sleep test at S$39 (U.P: S$350).
Should they be diagnosed with OSA, they will be referred to a sleep specialist for a follow-up.
The study also found that over half (57%) of Singaporeans’ ability to sleep well has been directly impacted by the pandemic, with more than a third experiencing negative impact on their stress, ability to sleep well, mental/emotional health, sleep and work routines.
With telehealth on the rise, Singaporeans are open to online means to address sleep-related
concerns, yet fear hinders many from getting tested for obstructive sleep apnea.
More details below from the study.

Working from home had always languished as the catch phrase for businesses aspiring to provide employees with a better work-life balance whilst maintaining a high level of performance.
Even though the requisite technology has been around and available for years now, the main stumbling block to greater adoption of working from home has been predominantly a cultural issue.

Four technology trends enabling hybrid working. Click on image to enlarge.
Companies are concerned that employees may not work as hard when left to their own devices at home, while employees worry that it is more difficult to get things done if they’re not physically working at the office.

Close to 65% of Singaporeans are open to the idea of adopting a digital-only bank, according to the Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Study.
* All infographics in this story courtesy of Visa.

It comes as no surprise that if consumers were to adopt a digital bank – interest is highest for an existing issuer given the trust already associated with the issuer. Click on infographic to enlarge.
The Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes Study was conducted in October 2019 by ENGINE Insights with 511 Singaporeans aged 18-65 years of age.

3 in 4 Singaporeans are aware of the concept of Digital Banking – whilst nearly 2 in 3 would be curious of adopting a digital only bank. Click on infographic to enlarge.

Hand washing is one of the most effective preventive measures against COVID-19 – the disease ravaging the world now. Google Doodles is recognising Ignaz Semmelweis – the Hungarian physician who discovered the medical benefits of handwashing.
* This story first appeared on Haleness Me.

Google Doodles celebrates Ignaz Semmelweis and handwashing. Click to watch the video.
Dr Ignaz Semmelweis was appointed Chief Resident in the maternity clinic of the Vienna General Hospital 173 years ago in 1847, where he deduced and demonstrated that requiring doctors to disinfect their hands vastly reduced the transmission of disease.

Print out this poster on proper handwashing techniques.
Semmelweis had noticed that a mysterious and poorly understood infection known as “childbed fever” was leading to high mortality rates in new mothers in maternity wards across Europe in the mid-19th century.
Semmelweis deduced that the doctors were transmitting infectious material from prior operations and autopsies to susceptible mothers through their hands.
He required doctors to wash their hands with chlorinated lime water before examining pregnant women.
As a result, the documented mortality rate plunged from 18% to 2.2% over a period of a year.

Here are some tips from Google on digital wellbeing and how our devices can contribute to our daily happiness.

The first step toward digital wellbeing is often understanding more about how you interact with technology in the first place. Tools like the Digital Wellbeing Dashboard in Android 9 Pie and YouTube’s Time Watched offer ways to keep you more informed about your habits.
Despite being one of the wealthiest nations globally, research has shown that Singaporeans are amongst the unhappiest people in the world.

Disconnect when you need to. Take advantage of tools that help make it easier to take a break from your devices, and switch off at the end of each day.

Atish Gude, NetApp’s Chief Strategy Officer shares three predictions for 2020, putting the spotlight on 5G, Blockchain and infrastructure virtualisation solutions.
* This article is contributed by Atish Gude, based on his professional experience and personal opinions.

What does 2020 hold in store?
2019 was a year of rapid innovation – and disruption – for both the IT industry and the broader business community.
With the widespread adoption of hybrid multicloud as the de-facto architecture for enterprise customers, organisations everywhere are under tremendous pressure to modernise their infrastructure and deliver tangible business value around data-intensive applications and workloads.

Multiclouds & Virtualisation
As a result, organisations are shifting from on-premises to leverage public cloud services, building private clouds, and moving from disk to flash in data centers – sometimes concurrently.
These transformations open the door to enormous potential, but also introduce the unintended consequence of rising IT complexity.
We predict that a demand for simplicity and customisability will be the number-one factor driving IT purchasing decisions in 2020.

Data-driven transformations
Vendors will need to provide customers modern, flexible technologies with the choice of how to use and consumes these technologies to meet evolving business models.
As IT departments look to de-emphasise maintenance and hardware, reduce overhead, and adopt pay-as-you-go models, simplicity and choice will be key.
Achieving this simplicity will serve as the foundation for companies as they navigate the exciting technological trends we’ve identified below.
