How does spacesense use Wifi to detect motion. is there a motion detector?

    • tech4tea says:

No motion detector is used. Each WiZ smart bulb has WiFi inbuilt to connect to the home network and is constantly transmitting and receiving Wi-Fi signals to communicate with the network. SpaceSense makes use of these signals and the Wi-Fi transceivers in-built into each WiZ smart bulb.

      • Alice Lee says:

That sounds interesting. How does it work?

        • tech4tea says:

SpaceSense works best in an enclosed room versus an open space. One of the WiZ smart lighting fixture (centrally located in the room) is designated by the user as the “beacon”, with one or more other smart bulbs (at the periphery of the room) designated as “processors”. During initial setup, the Wi-Fi signal paths (without any moving humans/pets/object) are first calibrated. Once calibrated, any physical obstruction or disruption of the Wi-Fi signals between the beacon and the processors means somebody has entered the room and triggers the response action programmed by the user eg. switching on the lights etc. When the person leaves the room and the signals go back to the calibrated state, SpaceSense understands that and switches off the lights.

Wow Thanks for the detailed explanation. Really concise but clear. Quite clever and innovative I must say … using the Wi-Fi network for motion detection.
