Sandeep Kapoor – Director of Demand and Channel Marketing at Keysight Technologies – shares his insights into how the next evolution of humankind will be driven by advanced technology.

Revolutionary inventions pave the way for future technological innovations
In 2022, the world celebrated the 75th anniversary of the well-known device, the transistor, and the 65th anniversary of another stellar device, the integrated circuit.
Since then, we have evolved from a single amplifier block to a 3000-transistor wafer in the 1970s to a nanometer process that can accommodate 50 billion transistors onto a chip the size of a fingernail.
Charles Darwin made this historic statement 153 years ago: “From so simple a beginning, endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.”
The quote from his book, On the Origin of the Species, is quite apt today when applied to emerging technologies, such as 5G, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and the digital twin.
In the last 35 years, the semiconductor market grew from over US$30 billion to more than US$600 billion, creating millions of employment opportunities.
60 years ago, the Mansfield News Journal correctly predicted the future in an article with the headline: “You’ll be able to carry [your] phone in [a] pocket in the future.”
Exactly 20 years after that, Motorola launched the first commercially available cellular phone, DynaTac 8000X, costing US$3995, weighing around 1 kg, and providing 30 minutes of talk time per charging cycle for 1G networks.
Emerging technologies mature as life-altering advances continue
The evolution continues as 5G networks overcome design challenges to enable <1 ms latency and up to 20 Gbps speed.

As we go into 2023, Keysight’s senior vice president, and president of the Electronic Industrial Solutions Group (EISG), Ee Huei Sin, offers the following predictions for key technologies for the new year and the years ahead.
Rapidly evolving technologies across cloud, digital twins and artificial intelligence, 5G and 6G, quantum computing, and electric and autonomous vehicles are powering innovation across industries.
Keysight Technologies supports development of these and other technologies by delivering advanced design and validation solutions, from software-driven insights and analytics that bring tomorrow’s technology products to market faster across the development lifecycle, to design simulation, prototype validation, automated software testing, manufacturing analysis, and network performance optimisation and visibility in enterprise, service provider and cloud environments.
As the world’s leading test and measurement provider, Keysight’s customers span the worldwide communications and industrial ecosystems, aerospace and defense, automotive, energy, semiconductor and general electronics markets, and it is well-placed to anticipate key developments affecting the Electrical and Electronic (E&E) and IT landscapes, in the future.
Here are seven technologies that I believe will be key in the new year and beyond.
- Cloud cover to soften recession concerns
- Cybersecurity: the deepfake threat, hackers in your home, physical attacks
- Real-world use cases for digital twins and AI
- 6G will open new doors
- Quantum starts to realise its potential
- Electric vehicles will drive more integrated and intelligent energy consumption
- Carbon reduction
May I elaborate further on each of these technology areas.

I helped a friend persuade her mother to use a robot vacuum-mop to help her clean her home. The initial push back was steep, but the outcome was sweet and rewarding. Here’s a reference for those trying to persuade their seniors at home to accept a robot vacuum-mop into their house-cleaning arsenal.

The S7 MaxV Ultra is Roborock’s current flagship model and embodies the latest features and technologies in robot vacuum-mops. Look out for the new S8 coming to the region soon.
Robot vacuums have successfully captured the market for the young and tech-savvy professionals, because the robot-cleaners relieve them of the tedious and time-consuming chores of house cleaning to free up precious time from their busy schedules.
Another market which needs the help of robot vacuums, however, has seen limited success – seniors for whom cleaning is physically demanding and sometimes painful.

Useful features and advanced technologies to look out for when looking for a robot vacuum mop.
Two hurdles to seniors accepting robot vacuums into their house-cleaning toolkit is their skepticism on whether the robots can do a good cleaning job, and general apprehension/fear of technology.
With the rapid development in robot vacuum technologies and features, the former is a rather moot point since robot vacuums these days tend to be able to do a pretty good job at vacuuming and mopping the home.

In this month’s technology opinion leader column from Keysight Technologies, Hwee Yng Yeo shares her insights into how digital twins can help bring new products to market faster, without compromising on conformance to standards for performance and safety.

Testing the electric car with a digital twin setup that emulates high-power DC charging.
Digital twin technology is changing how the automotive industry designs and tests products and solutions for electromobility (e-mobility).
With pressure to develop more energy-efficient batteries, and a ramp-up in charging infrastructure development, digital twins can help bring new products to market faster, without compromising on conformance to standards for performance and safety.
Emulator Versus Simulator
Digital twins have emerged as a hot technology topic, but the concept has its roots in emulation technology dating back to the early 1990s.
Emulators imitate the behaviour of one or more pieces of equipment, whether an integrated circuit or even an entire piece of equipment and have numerous applications.

Roborock combines cutting-edge technologies with a keen awareness of what home-owners want to produce robot vacuums with floor-cleaning features that get the job done with minimum human intervention.

Roborock is the Best Robot Vacuum Brand 2022 in the tech4tea.com Best-in-Class Awards this year.
Having used multiple robot vacuum floor-cleaners since their debut more than a decade ago, tech4tea.com has witnessed the evolution in their design and performance over time.

The flagship S7 MaxV Ultra exemplifies Roborock’s ability to home-owners’ desire to keep their homes clean with minimum fuss and human intervention.
In the early days, a simple robot vacuum could only vacuum the floor with limited effectiveness, and required the user to manually empty the dust compartment and clean the vacuum robot frequently.
Nowadays, with robot vacuums like the S7 MaxV Ultra from Roborock, home-owners can delegate the floor cleaning of their homes completely to their robot vacuums, with minimum fuss and human intervention.
The S7 MaxV Ultra, for example, not only vacuums but also mops the floor.
