Children from all over the world have correctly answered more than 8 million questions on Skoolbo since its release in June. Average improvement rates are exceeding 22%.

The free Skoolbo is the world’s largest educational game and currently targets literacy and numeracy for 4 to 10 year olds.
Skoolbo is increasing users by more than 10% a week with many schools using the program in their class activities.
In mid-2013, Skoolbo will launch 52 different language learning apps as well as additional content in Geography, Science and History.

The new Republic of Gamers gaming desktop PCs from ASUS ship with the latest Windows 8 loaded and the quad-core Intel Core i7-3770K processor with Turbo Gear offers one-click overclock without rebooting.
The DEFCON light of the ASUS TYTAN ROG CG8480 changes from blue to red when overclocked.
Launched in October, the ROG CG8480 (S$2,250 without monitor) is a fully loaded gaming machine packed with superb performance.

The overclocked performance was stable throughout the time that I tried out the gaming desktop.
In particular, I like the subtle lighting which changes from the usual blue to red when the machine is overclocked.
The full 4-core CPU can be instantly overclocked – without rebooting – to hit a top speed of 4.2 GHz in Turbo Gear extreme mode. The other 2 speed modes are the startup Startup mode at 3.8GHz and Turbo Gear mode at 4.0GHz.
Gameplay was smooth with the 16GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB GDDR5 graphics card, which is capable of supporting up to four monitors (I set up mine with two), with the option to game in NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround for selected models.
The 128GB SATA3 SSD makes data access so much faster than generic hard disk drives. It can support up to 6TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM).
What I like is there’re plenty of sockets/ports in front and at the rear of the ROG CG8480.

ASUS claims that the Xonar Phoebus audio card powered by ROG Command technology can deliver up to 50% ambient noise reduction. I found the audio sounded terrific with the Dolby surround enhancements.
Superb performance at an affordable price-tag, just right for the avid gamer who doesn’t have the time, or finds it too tiresome to build his gaming desktop from scratch.
Other new models in the ROG line of gaming desktop PCs include the CG8890 and CG8580.

These include the slew of recently-launched Windows 8 computers such as the ASUS TAICHI Ultrabook-tablet convertible, Transformer Book, ZENBOOK, VivoBook, VivoTab, All-in-One PCs.
My favourite is the ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) gaming desktop PCs which are debuting in Singapore during SITEX 2012.
There’s also the innovative PadFone 2 smartphone-tablet hybrid.

Two days before General Availability of Microsoft Windows 8, ASUS unveils its lineup of new Windows 8 touch-enabled devices, which includes full gaming desktops, All-in-Ones, notebooks, tablets – as well as notebook/tablet convertibles/transformers. Prices within.
Update (17 January, 2013):
The ASUS VivoTab Smart detachable tablet will be available in Singapore from 18 January onwards at S$699 for the WiFi model.
Update (9 January, 2013):
The ASUS VivoTab RT 3G is now available in Singapore from 9 January for S$1,049.
ASUS has unveiled a comprehensive lineup of Windows 8 computers ranging from powerful gaming desktops, All-in-One desktops, notebooks, tablets, as well as convertible and transformer notebook/tablethybrids.
Among the major computer manufacturers, I consider Asus as one of the most innovative.
Innovative pioneers
The Taiwanese company created the Netbook genre with its Eee PCs back in 2007.
ASUS Transformer Book
Asus also the pioneered the tablet/notebook hybrid with the Asus Transformer TF101 – offering a hardware keyboard that the Android tablet could be docked into for serious work that involves typing – plus added battery life and connectors.
Now every other major computer maker offers notebook/tablet hybrids in their lineup.
Either as a “Transformer” hybrid where the keyboard can be totally detached.
Or in a “Convertible” format where the keyboard cannot be detached but can be manipulated such that the machine can be held as a tablet or used like a traditional laptop.
Asus has continued its innovation with products such as the Transformer Padfone and now the Taichi – a convertible with dual screens.

2K Games announced today that XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the action-strategy game from Firaxis Games, will include a unique multiplayer game mode featuring a one-on-one deathmatch against another player for the first time in an XCOM game.

Players will be able to pick a squad of soldiers, aliens or even combine a squad of both unit types to create the ultimate mixed squad to command in battle.

This Thursday, the third of four large annual IT exhibitions in Singapore will kick off at Suntec Singapore. For four days from 30 August to 2 September, the COMEX will open from 12 noon to 9 pm (Admission FREE).
COMEX 2012, 30 August to 2 September, 12 noon to 9pm, Levels 3, 4 and 6. Admission FREE.
COMEX 2012 will be held on three Levels – 3, 4 and 6 of Suntec Singapore. With more than 830 exhibitors, COMEX claims to be Singapore’s biggest IT and consumer technology exhibition.

Nikon spearheaded its Autumn 2012 collection of cameras with 6 new cameras, 1 lens and 1 waterproof casing. Among these cameras are the super compact S01 and the Android-equipped S800c.
All will be available in September. Prices TBA.
Nikon launched 6 new cameras and accessories in Singapore to spearhead its Autumn 2012 collection.
Most camera launches roll out more of the same, with slight improvements in features or specifications.
The Nikon P7700 is the new flagship of the COOLPIX lineup. 12.2MP, 7.1x Zoom, f/2.0-4.0 lens.
So its most refreshing to see Nikon trying to innovate by launching cameras that genuinely push the boundaries.
My favourite among the slew of cameras launched in Singapore today is the S01.
You’ve got to see it to believe it and you’ve got to handle it to appreciate it.
The S01 is smaller than a credit card!
It’s thicker than the card of course, but it’s like one of those charms people dangle from their keychains, although I wouldn’t want the camera slamming against the dashboard as I drive.
And people with big hands might not appreciate the compactness as much.

It’s a bold step for Nikon to take – pushing the limits of camera miniaturisation.
Nikon COOLPIX L610 has 16MP and 14x Zoom.
I’m sure smartphone makers would be very keen to adopt some of the technologies developed to make their smartphone cameras perform even better.
Already, these camera phones are encroaching into the market share of compact cameras with the only difference being image quality, which is made up for by the convenience of having the smartphone camera being available and handy at all times.
I won’t be surprised if some of Nikon’s sub-contractors are already talking to smartphone makers on possible collaborations.
The Nikon COOLPIX S800c runs Android 2.3 and has Wi-Fi connectivity.
On the same front, Nikon is hitting back at the smartphone camera sector with the S800c – a compact camera with an Android OS (2.3) and Wi-Fi connectivity.
So you can use photo-editing apps (such as Photoshop, Instagram and PicsArt) from the Google Play store to edit photos taken with the camera, and share it online on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
You can also use any of the other 500,000 apps on the Google Play for gaming or other purposes.

What the S800c doesn’t have yet is 3G connectivity, to give it 3G data connectivity in case there’s no Wi-Fi connectivity.
Who knows, you might even see a Nikon camera-phone (in that order) in the future!
The other products launched today are more run-of-the-mill cameras and accessories.
These include three new compacts from the COOLPIX family: COOLPIX P7700, L610, and S6400.
The Nikon 1 J1 MIL camera has been upgraded to the J2, with new Creative Modes, a new 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm f/3.5/5.6 lens, and an Underwater Case.
For its mirrorless interchangeable lens line, Nikon has launched the Nikon 1 J2, 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm F/3.5-5.6 lens, and the Nikon 1 water proof case.

The world’s largest gaming website has launched an Asian edition. IGN Asia Pacific will cover – in English, Chinese and Malay – 10 markets in the region.
IGN Asia Pacific covers 10 markets including Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and China.
IGN Asia Pacific is under the day-to-day operation of the publishing team at Blah! Asia, a division of the Asia Pacific social entertainment media house Spiral Media.
The site is in English, Chinese & Malay.
Veteran games industry figure Maxime Villandré will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the new edition, managing editorial teams based in Kuala Lumpur and throughout Asia.
Countries covered include Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and China.
IGN.com is the world’s most popular games and entertainment network and the new deal significantly grows IGN’s local presence in one of the world’s largest and fastest growing gaming regions.
Asia Pacific joins licensed IGN sites now live in Germany, Sweden and the Middle East.
According to Comscore, IGN is the largest Video games and entertainment news publisher in the Asia Pacific region across all markets, far larger than its closest competitor Gamespot.
