Event forecast: CES 2017 celebrates 50th anniversary

The first big tech event for the year on the global scene – CES 2017 happens this week in Las Vegas: 5-8 Jan (Thurs-Sun).

CES 2017 will have more than 3,800 exhibitors covering 2.4 million net square feet of space.

Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) – CES is expecting more than 165,000 attendees, with more than 50,000 international professionals representing 150 countries.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, CES was first held in June 1967 in New York, with 17,500 attendees and 117 exhibitors.

The window serves as a picture frame so it looks like “there’s a picture within a picture”.

And to the people in the photo, the photographer is also a picture within a picture.

Event: Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2016 (AFASG2016)

Held this year from 25 to 27 November, the region’s largest and most followed Japanese popular culture and anime festival boasts more than 130 exhibitors, a line-up of popular artistes, and an exciting programme. Prices below.

The annual Anime Festival Asia (AFASG2016) kicked off its three-day experiential showcase today in Singapore.

Attendees and aspiring cosplay enthusiasts can also look forward to meeting celebrity cosplayers from the region this year.

Some new highlights include the inaugural ANiBEATS, a 1-night only after party on 27 November, featuring DJs who blend EDM (electronic dance music) with anisongs (anime songs).

You can find immersive experiences at various experience zones, including a Sword Art Online centric exhibition booth that showcases artwork and animation cuts of all seasons of this beloved series.

Erin Tan checked out AFASG2016 at Suntec City. Fortunately she went early – it got super crowded very quickly after this.

Original merchandise direct from Japan, including merchandise exclusive to the festival, will be available for shoppers.

Guess who was the jogger in this photo?

It’s none other than the photographer himself!

When I chatted with Mark about the photo, he shared that he frequently went to that bridge to take photos – so when the third theme was announced, he immediately formed this image in his mind.

The annual photography competition takes place today on Saturday, 19 November, 2016 at the Suntec City Convention & Exhibition Centre 401-402.
