IFA Global Press Conference 2017 is happening this weekend in Lisbon, Portugal. I will be covering this consumer electronics and home appliances showcase, as part of a small group of media the show organisers invited from Singapore.
The media delegation from Singapore is part of an international corp invited by Messe Berlin, the organisers of IFA and this Global Press Conference.
IFA this year will be from 1-6 September, 2017.
As a lead-up to the actual trade show in September, the organisers have gathered some of the key exhibitors and media from around the world in a preview mini-show, featuring product showcases, as well as briefs and presentations on the latest trends on consumer electronics and home appliances.
Simply called the Mirror, the luxury smart mirror is available online for S$2,700. Only 500 pieces available worldwide.
A smart mirror for a smart home.
This smart mirror is like a giant smartphone screen which can function as a plain reflective mirror or as a giant Android tablet.
The mirror has a slim profile encased within a champagne gold frame, and can be installed anywhere in the home – be it the living room or in the bathroom.
IFA this year will be from 1-6 September, 2017. As in previous years, the annual consumer electronics & home appliances show will be preceded by a preview mini-show for the media from 20-23 April.
This year’s IFA GPC will be in Lisbon, Portugal (20-23 April, 2017). Venues in the past have included Dubrovnik in Croatia (2012), Sardinia in Italy (2013), and Belek in Turkey (2014).
IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin – international radio exhibition Berlin) is a global consumer electronics and home appliances show held annually in Berlin in September.
IFA 2016 saw more than 1,800 exhibitors showing off their products to 238,000 visitors (including139,000 trade visitors) in 158,000 sqm of rented display area.
Every year, the organisers hold a global press conference (IFA GPC) in another European city (2016 was an exception, when the GPC was held in Hong Kong & Shenzhen).
Founder Sir James Dyson aims to nurture “exceptional” engineers focused on cutting edge manufacturing, software, and robotics in spare-no-expense laboratories.
Dyson’s Singapore Technology Centre is being launched with the backdrop of Singapore’s Smart Nation vision, and a world where technologies are increasingly intelligent and connected. “As the way people shop is changing so to is our supply chain. The Dyson Control Tower connects our entire supply chain. Using the latest technology, it tracks real time machine reliability and delivery performance ensuring the highest quality products reach our customers on time,” said Jim Rowan, Chief Operating Officer, Dyson. Dyson is investing £330m in its future in Singapore.
“It is no coincidence that we are deepening our investment in Singapore to achieve our technology ambitions. Right here, some of the world’s brightest minds are working on artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, fluid dynamics, vision systems to bring hardware, electronics and software together. Good software allows Dyson products to actually improve over time and gives them intelligence to understand and respond to their environment”, said Sir James Dyson, Founder, Dyson.
The new facility has the latest development labs, bringing together the latest hardware and software expertise.
Dyson plans to grow the Singapore-based engineering team by 50 per cent.
Located in the heart of Singapore’s start-up community and next to the National University of Singapore, the new Centre’s engineering teams will focus developing new technologies for the future.
Dyson invests £7m a week in research and development and employs 3,500 engineers and scientists globally.
It has 1,100 people in Singapore split between its Technology Centre at Science Park I and its advanced digital motors manufacturing facility at West Park.
Dyson is seeking highly skilled engineers across a broad range of engineering disciplines including connectivity, motors, sensors, electronics, robotics, navigation, software and purification.
With lubrication before and after the blades, Gillette’s latest razor shields skin against irritation from unconscious, multiple or unintentional re-strokes. Prices below.
The new Gillette Fusion ProShield razor promises to protect your face as you shave.
Global shave care leader Gillette today revealed the Gillette Fusion ProShield.
According to a study by Gillette, most men take about 170 strokes while shaving.
Two variations of the Fusion ProShield Razor are available: the Standard (Yellow), and the Chill with Cooling Technology (Blue).
ProShield blade cartridges fit on all Fusion and ProGlide razor handles.
However, many men shave on auto-pilot and can re-stroke up to 120 times during the shave, after the initial 50 strokes wipe away most of the shave gel, unintentionally causing irritation.
To combat this problem, the new Gillette ProShield features a new Lubrication Bar before the blades, in addition to the Lubrastrip after the blades, to shield skin from irritation.
Singapore will be the first in Southeast Asia to sell Dyson’s new hairdryer. The Supersonic will retail at S$599.
First launched in Japan back in May, the Supersonic marks Dyson’s foray from the business of cleaning to the business of beauty.
To commemorate the launch, Tangs will be doing an exclusive online pre-order with Tangs at their website from 20th July onwards.
“Hair dryers can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket. By looking at them further we realised that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair. I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair dryer, which we think solves these problems,” said James Dyson, Inventor & Founder of Dyson.
Customers who pre-order the hair dryer may opt to pick up their machines at Tangs or have them delivered to their homes from 5 August onwards.
As part of the official launch, Dyson will conduct a hair academy with beauty blogger Drea Chong on the evening of 5 August from 7–9pm.
Limited spots are available and are on a first-come-first served basis.
The new Pure Cool Link comes in desktop (S$699, from end May) and tower (S$1,099, end April) form factors.
The Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan automatically removes 99.95% of indoor allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns from the air.
The new Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan uses a unique 360° Glass HEPA filter.
“We think it is polluted outside of our homes, but the air inside can be far worse. Dyson engineers focused on developing a purifier that automatically removes ultrafine allergens, odours and pollutants from the indoor air, feeding real time air quality data back to you,” says James Dyson, Inventor & Founder of Dyson.
This technology captures 99.95% of ultrafine allergens, odours and pollutants as small as 0.1µ from the air – keeping them in the filter.
Sensors inside the machine detect changes in conditions, before automatically adjusting airflow to maintain the target air quality.
The machine projects cleaner, purified air around the room evenly and quietly, purifying all year round and doubling up as a fan to cool you in the summer.
Dyson currently already has a Pure Cool purifier fan on the market.
The Dyson Pure Cool Link comes in desktop and tower sizes and will be available at all major departmental stores and electrical multiples in Singapore. Pictured her during the launch at the Aliwal Arts Centre.
This new version (Pure Cool Link) features connectivity to an iOS/Android app so that users can control/manage the purifier remotely, and peruse environmental recorded by the purifier’s sensors.
Sharp has launched in Singapore what it claims to be the world’s first air purifier with built-in mosquito catcher. The FP-FM40E-B is now available at all Gain City outlets at S$459.
The FP-FM40E-B air purifier cum mosquito catcher uses Sharp’s Plasmacluster Ion technology and is designed for family protection.
The device is suitable for all households and is developed with the intention of providing families peace of mind and added protection against mosquitoes throughout the year.
The device’s built-in mosquito catcher utilises a multi-step process (see below) that eliminates mosquitoes without the use of harsh chemicals.
