POTD: Burghausen Castle on the borders of Germany & Austria

July 2nd, 2014

Photo of the Day: We chanced upon this charming town while driving en route from Munich to Salzburg. The castle sitting on top of the hill looked majestic while the houses along the river looked so colourful and quaint.

We were driving from Munich to Salzburg when we chanced upon the quaint little town right beside the fast flowing Salzach River, which marks the border between Germany and Austria in these parts.

The route that we were driving was a bit off the beaten track and we hadn’t expected to come across any touristy places along the way.

So imagine our surprise when we drove into this charming little town that was obviously a tourist destination.

After driving across the bridge straddling the Salzach, we stopped by the river bank and snapped some photos of Burghausen and its castle from across the river.

We didn’t realise at that time that by crossing the bridge, we had crossed from Germany into Austria, and that we were snapping photos of the German town from the Austrian bank.

The Austrian village on the other side of the river is called Ach and is so tiny you won’t find it if you do a search for it on Google Maps, although it’s actually marked on the map.

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) comes into force in Singapore tomorrow (Wednesday, July 2). Sharat Sinha – Vice President, Asia Pacific for Palo Alto Networks –  shares his views on what this means for businesses in Singapore and how this relates to cybersecurity.

“Following the Singapore Government’s introduction of its five-year National Cybersecurity Masterplan last year, the introduction of PDPA will work to further strengthen Singapore’s position and reputation as a trusted, world-class hub for business,” says Sinha.

The PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act), which comes into force on Wednesday July 2, aims to safeguard individuals’ personal data against misuse by regulating its management by companies.

The Act is based on the understanding that individuals have the right to be informed of the purposes for which organisations are collecting, using or disclosing their personal data, giving individuals more control over how their personal data is used.

It recognises both the rights of individuals to protect their personal data, including rights of access and correction, and the needs of organisations to collect, use or disclose personal data for legitimate and reasonable purposes.

Temporary hiatus for tech4tea.com

June 8th, 2014

Dear readers, I have been experiencing erratic outages with my hosting provider during these past few weeks. This moment right now is a rare window that I do have access to post something on the blog.

I have decided to stop updating the blog until July. By then, hopefully my hosting provider would have resolved once and for all the frequent database lockout and corruption problems that I’ve been encountering. Or else, I would have migrated this blog to another hosting provider.

In the meantime, I will be on overseas vacation for the next two weeks. Usually I write about my experiences and share my photos on this blog. But due to the hiatus, I will do so on another blog which I plan to set up over the next few days. Once that is done, I will post the URL to that blog in the space here (provided I still have access to update this post).

Whenever I am able to, I will post tech-related stuff to my Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/gotech4tea.

Thank you for your readership and support!
