Toyota today launched the new 1.6-liter Corolla Altis at S$132,988 (COE Rebate S$65,000).

The new Toyota Corolla Altis adopts the same theme showcased on the athletic Corolla Furia Concept during the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January.
This is the 11th generation since the first Corolla rolled out of the factory in 1966 some 48 years ago.
The Altis maintains an increased emphasis on style, as seen in Toyota vehicles launched in the past year, which has produced more expressive vehicle designs.
“With 10 generations and over 40 million happy owners, the Toyota Corolla Altis is the world’s best-selling car, and a legendary name amongst automobile makers and consumers alike,” said Koh Ching Hong, Managing Director of Borneo Motors Singapore.
The bold T-shaped motif of the all-new Corolla Altis represents Toyota’s intent to bring sharper, sleeker and sportier designs that will appeal to current Toyota customers while also attracting more youthful buyers.
The new Corolla Altis has a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs,to give the car an athletic stance with greater presence.
Viewed in profile, a sweeping crease in the body sheet metal spans the length of the sedan and accentuates the integrated door handle design.
The exterior tapers towards the front and rear of the vehicle to emphasize its wheel arches, with a longer, faster sloping roofline that blends into a shorter rear deck to give the sedan a sportier image.
Borneo Motors is bringing into Singapore the 1.6-liter Corolla Altis with four-cylinder 16 Valves DOHC engine equipped with Dual VVT-i that generates a power output of 121 bhp and 154 Nm torque.

More pronounced flared wheel arches, and a clean yet impactful sculpted surface adds an air of elegance to its sporty exterior.
The Dual VVT-i varies the timing and lift of the engine’s valves to suit your driving requirements, resulting in improved responsiveness, superior fuel economy of 6.5l/100km and low CO2 emission of 151g/km.

… a part in what?!
“Because you played a part” … in 30 years of Total Defence!
That’s the theme for the eighth installment of the series of annual “N.E.mation!” competition that has seen more than 9,500 students participating since its inauguration in 2007.

I visited the Top 10 teams for this year’s N.E.mation!8 and came away with a sense of awe at how articulate and convicted these youths were in our Nation’s Total Defence message.
The top 10 teams are hard at work at Nanyang Polytechnic producing their 1-minute animation that will vie for the top spot – which will earn the winning team a fully sponsored trip (worth more than S$15,000) to the US.
N.E.mation!8 main theme: “30 Years of Total Defence: Because You Played A Part”
“30 years of security and stability as a nation was built upon everyone’s efforts.
We stood with each other through the good times and bad, overcoming challenges and celebrating our successes.
We are able to enjoy what we have in Singapore today because each of us has played a part, in building this nation, our home.”
The top 10 teams are now in the final week of the 3-week production period when they work from 9am to 9pm daily to churn out the main animation for their submission.
After the 3-week period, they go off to enjoy the rest of their school holidays while their animation mentors and instructors put in the finishing touches and add in the music in post production.
The winning entry will be determined in February 2014 by a panel of judges (comprising NEXUS and animation industry experts) as well as voting by the public, which will account for 50 percent of the points.
The Partta Kappa Team (from SotA) uses an innovative combination of shadow-silhouette and real people for their animation “It Takes More …”

Deepavali, or Diwali, is the Hindu festival of lights and is a public holiday in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

This is the signboard at the entrance of my residential estate – wishing Hindu residents a Happy Deepavali. Taken with an HTC One max smartphone – which debuted in Singapore today. The two flare spots at the bottom are due to two spotlights shining on it.
The word “Diwali” is the shortened form of “Deepavali” which literally means “row of lamps”.

Lenovo unveiled its new Android 4.2 Yoga Tablet today in a global live stream launch event. Both the 8-inch (start from S$449) and 10-inch (S$549) versions will be available in Singapore by end November. Pre-orders start from 1 November until 10 November.

The new Lenovo Yoga Tablet is designed to resemble a physical book with a “graspable” spine.
The amazing thing about the Yoga Tablet is its 6000 mAh battery, which boasts a life of 18 hours (of Wi-Fi web browsing), and can even be used to charge other mobile devices!
Hands-on
The cylindrical battery is a nice design touch and makes holding the tablet more secure and comfortable.
