Geopolitical uncertainty has dramatically increased the chances that healthcare organisations will experience more security attacks in the next couple years. Keith Bromley from Keysight Technologies shares his insights into the need for SecOps teams to prepare for even more ransomware attacks to extort money along with “lights out attacks” designed to cripple day to day operations.

The Threat is Real – Three Steps to Securing Your Healthcare Network.
The last two years have proven that the statement — “No one would want to hurt a hospital or healthcare clinic” — is a false narrative.
Cyberattacks against network servers in the healthcare sector rose 35% in 2020 and another 53% in 2021, according to Fortified Health Security reports.
Expect The Unexpected
A focus on cyber resiliency is key to your success.
Once a cyber-attack or breach has been launched, you obviously need to stop the threat.
However, it is just as important to get back to normal operations as fast as possible to maintain business continuity and satisfy patient needs.
The key to making cyber resiliency work safely is to engineer your security architecture with self-healing capabilities from the start.
See the highlight box below for some examples of engineered cyber resilience.
Bad actors are making sure that healthcare organizations either spend now on security defenses or pay later for ransoms, fines and lawsuits.
You can start the process with a three-point plan focused on prevention, detection, and vigilance.
Here are some focused recommendations from this three-point plan:
1. Deploy an inline security solution to reduce as many vulnerabilities within the network as possible
Inline security solutions are a high impact technique that address security threats, especially ransomware targeting healthcare networks.
These solutions can eliminate 90% or more of incoming security threats before they even enter your network.

Joan Hu, Overseas Southeast Asia Director at Roborock, shares her plans for the company in APAC for the second half of this year.

Joan Hu is the Overseas Southeast Asia Director at Roborock.
To get a picture of Roborock’s strategy for APAC in H2 2022, I asked Joan Hu five questions.
Q1. Roborock has recorded a strong growth in China since its introduction. What do you think contributed to this?
In the robot vacuum market back in 2014, most available products only focused on the basic need that comes with a vacuum – cleaning.
We saw an opportunity to fulfill needs and wants that consumers didn’t know they had yet.
Hence, we grew our R&D department with a team of engineers, scientists, manufacturing experts and designers – all vital for creating products that truly fit our users’ lifestyle.
Q2. Any new vacuum launches this year?
We have just launched the Roborock S7 MaxV in early 2022.
This is an upgrade of our popular Roborock S7, with ReactiveAI 2.0 Obstacle Avoidance System.
The S7 MaxV recognizes objects in its path more accurately and adapts quickly to clean around them, regardless of lighting conditions.
It also features Roborock’s acclaimed VibraRise® technology, a combination of sonic mopping with an automatic mop lift designed to transition smoothly over contrasting surfaces, while delivering effective high-intensity scrubs to tackle surface dirt.

The Roborock Q7 Max robot vacuum cleaner and mop was launched in Singapore recently in April 2022.
That’s not all, we also launched the Q7 Max – the latest lineup to our premium Q-series, a range of robot vacuums that combines proven features of our flagship S-Series, including LiDAR navigation, multi-level mapping and customizable app controls, making automated cleaning now an affordable luxury.

What is the key to understanding the depth of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm’s unique power? Jeff Harris from Keysight Technologies shares his insights into how measurement determines the potential of your AI algorithm.

Determining the potential of your AI algorithm begins with measurement.
At the core of every AI algorithm are three basic ingredients:
- the ability to measure
- knowing how much of what you measure needs to be processed
- the ability to process more than one input at a time
To what depth a system can measure can be thought of as its potential.
Determining what aspects of those measurements must be sent to the processor can be thought of as delivering that potential.
Finally, knowing how to combine the salient parts of those measurements in the correct proportions, known as sensor fusion, is the key to exploring an algorithm’s IQ or reasoning potential.

We frequently see DDR SDRAMs as a key specification of computers and digital devices. In this two-part guest commentary, Ben Miller from Keysight Technologies shares his insights into the design of DDR SDRAMs (Part 1) and how faster memory speeds shape the future (Part 2).
DDR5 is still in the early phases of adoption. JEDEC released the standard in July 2020. The first CPU platform to support DDR5 was released in early 2022.
However, this platform still includes DDR4 support, so it could be some time before the industry accepts DDR5 as the de-facto memory standard and fully transitions memory systems to the new standard.
Faster memory enables the future
Over the next couple of years, more personal computers, servers, and embedded systems will take advantage of the higher speed, lower power, and greater memory capacity available with DDR5.

We frequently see DDR SDRAMs as a key specification of computers and digital devices. In this two-part guest commentary, Ben Miller from Keysight Technologies shares his insights into the design of DDR SDRAMs (Part 1) and how faster memory speeds shape the future (Part 2).
Faster data processing requires faster memory.
Double data rate synchronous dynamic random-access memory (DDR SDRAM) enables the world’s computers to work with the data in memory.
Faster, not wider
Since the origins of SDRAM, engineers have faced challenges with increasing memory speeds.

Figure 1: DDR has both one-way control signals and bidirectional data buses. Click to enlarge.
DDR emerged as a faster, more efficient way to handle memory, while providing a universal standard between chip designers and device manufacturers.
As shown in Figure 1, DDR memory consists of a memory controller which transmits clock, address and control signals, and a series of DRAM chips which store the data.
In a write operation, the controller sends data and strobe signals to the DRAM; in a read operation, the DRAM sends data and strobe signals back over the same bi-directional line.
DDR SDRAM became the standard in the late 1990s and has since been improved upon many times over.
Prior to DDR, memory speeds maxed out in the range of 100 MT/s.

The world is coming to terms with having to live with COVID-19 for a while to come. Apart from population-level vaccination to enhance our resistance against the disease, how can we make our living and working environment safer from the SARS-COV-2 virus that causes the disease?
Jitender Khurana shares how UVC disinfection technology provides an effective means of sanitising the air and surfaces around us in an efficient and sustainable way. Most importantly, it can be implemented at scale without breaking the bank! Jitender Khurana is the Country Head & Managing Director for Singapore and Emerging Markets, Southeast Asia at Signify.

When will life go back to what it was like in pre-pandemic days? Will it ever? Image: Signify.
After more than two years and six million deaths globally, the world is still reeling from the humanitarian and economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. The SARS-COV-2 virus has infected almost half a billion people around the world to date, and continues to cause more than a million new cases of COVID-19 every day.
However, the pandemic shows no sign of slowing down, following the scourge of the Delta variant which swept across the earth, as well as the current Omicron variant.
“For true endemic living, I want to be able to attend concerts, work out at a gym, watch an indoor sports event and visit a public bathroom knowing that the air I’m breathing is safe from the SARS-COV-2 virus. All these aspirations can be fulfilled through air disinfection solutions harnessing UV-C technology – in conjunction with wearing masks, social distancing and vaccination.”
Even though no end is in sight for the pandemic, life and business must go on. Governments and companies need a solution that will provide employees and citizens with a safe working and public environment that is protected from COVID-19.
Like it or not, COVID-19 is not going away and all of us will have to learn how to live, work and play while the SARS-COV-2 virus hangs around us and the disease becomes endemic.
Welcome to the new normal of “Endemic Living”.
The silver lining in the cloud is that we have learnt much since the beginning of the pandemic – about the disease itself, the virus that causes it, the way it spreads, the safety measures and practices that would protect us from infection.
I believe we are ready to embark on this new phase of the pandemic, because we are equipped with the know-how and wherewithal to live safely and normally despite COVID-19. We now know that the reason COVID-19 is so contagious is that it can be transmitted over the air.

IoT – or the Internet of Things – has been the buzzword for a while now and businesses are constantly on the lookout for ways to fast track their IoT adoptions and rollouts.
I spoke with Jitender Khurana to find out how a traditional lighting network can be harnessed to rapidly transform a dumb building into a smart IoT-enabled environment.

Jitender Khurana is the Country Head & Managing Director for Singapore and Emerging Markets at Signify. Photo: Signify.
I asked Jitender the key to Signify’s competitive advantage in helping its customers embrace IoT.
Three simple words: “Lighting is ubiquitous,” says Jitender, head honcho for Singapore and Emerging Markets at Signify.
“Lighting is ubiquitous,” says Jitender Khurana, head honcho for Singapore and Emerging Markets at Signify.
But how does that give Signify a leg up in helping businesses embrace IoT more quickly and easily?
Well, the most tedious aspect of rolling out an IoT implementation is typically the deployment of IoT sensors and the network connecting these sensors back to the IoT platform.
Laying the network for both power supply and data tends to be both costly and time-consuming.
For Signify – that network is simply the lighting network that forms the basic infrastructure of any building or facility.
As far as the world leader in lighting is concerned, “Where there’s light(ing), there can be an IoT sensor integrated into the luminaire”.
