The new Republic of Gamers gaming desktop PCs from ASUS ship with the latest Windows 8 loaded and the quad-core Intel Core i7-3770K processor with Turbo Gear offers one-click overclock without rebooting.

The DEFCON light of the ASUS TYTAN ROG CG8480 changes from blue to red when overclocked.
Launched in October, the ROG CG8480 (S$2,250 without monitor) is a fully loaded gaming machine packed with superb performance.

The rear of the ROG CG8480.
The overclocked performance was stable throughout the time that I tried out the gaming desktop.
In particular, I like the subtle lighting which changes from the usual blue to red when the machine is overclocked.
The full 4-core CPU can be instantly overclocked – without rebooting – to hit a top speed of 4.2 GHz in Turbo Gear extreme mode. The other 2 speed modes are the startup Startup mode at 3.8GHz and Turbo Gear mode at 4.0GHz.
Gameplay was smooth with the 16GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB GDDR5 graphics card, which is capable of supporting up to four monitors (I set up mine with two), with the option to game in NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround for selected models.
The 128GB SATA3 SSD makes data access so much faster than generic hard disk drives. It can support up to 6TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM).

What I like is there’re plenty of sockets/ports in front and at the rear of the ROG CG8480.
Cooling was efficient with its well-ventilated chassis and airflow. Check out the detailed tech specs of the ASUS TYTAN ROG CG8480 gaming desktop PC here.
ASUS claims that the Xonar Phoebus audio card powered by ROG Command technology can deliver up to 50% ambient noise reduction. I found the audio sounded terrific with the Dolby surround enhancements.
Superb performance at an affordable price-tag, just right for the avid gamer who doesn’t have the time, or finds it too tiresome to build his gaming desktop from scratch.
Other new models in the ROG line of gaming desktop PCs include the CG8890 and CG8580.

The single-player narrative unfolds within Dubai after a series of cataclysmic sandstorms cut the city off from the rest of the world.
Playing as Captain Martin Walker, gamers add to the city’s destruction by engaging in action-packed firefights as they search for Colonel John Konrad and his missing battalion,
The Damned 33rd.
In search of answers and survivors, players who experience the demo will tear through portions of two early chapters of Spec Ops: The Line.
The squad-based action in Spec Ops: The Line is highlighted by an intelligent squad command system that allows players to tactfully take out insurgents as they advance into the heart of Dubai.
Gamers will blast their way through sandstorms with a variety of weapons and explosives, even using sand as a weapon to strategically bury enemies in their path.

Spec Ops: The Line features an expansive, class-based multiplayer experience
In addition to the single-player campaign, Spec Ops: The Line features an expansive, class-based multiplayer experience for both casual and hard core gamers.
The multiplayer mode features squad-based games where players are encouraged to use their sand-filled surroundings to thwart their enemies.
However, the environment can quickly turn from advantageous to treacherous with the onset of sandstorms – which impact visibility, team communication and weapon handling.

Come 2012, the game that you play on your Sony Playstation could be made-in-Singapore. That is the vision for the Memorandum of Understanding signed today between Nanyang Polytechnic and Sony Computer Entertainment Asia.
The 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will renew the partnership between Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Sony Computer Entertainment Asia (SCE Asia) a year ahead of the existing agreement signed in December 2009.

Mr. Tetsuhiko Yasuda, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Asia and Mr. Chan Lee Mun, Principal & CEO, Nanyang Polytechnic at the MOU signing ceremony.
Both parties will be nurturing the first ever student-initiated Sony PlayStation Minis game, developed by 21-year-old NYP graduand Hoong Boon Wai. They will also continue their partnership in the NYP Games Resource Centre, the only Sony PlayStation games development and training centre in Southeast Asia.

The S$4 million Games Resource Centre will provide the resources and facilities for lecturers of NYP’s Diploma in Digital Entertainment Technology (Games) and Diploma in Digital Media Design (Games) to guide and mentor students from these courses. By 2015, NYP expects to train at least another 800 students and games development professionals through its two diploma programmes and Specialist Diploma Games Development.
Companies such as Red Hare Studios can also use the development tools in the centre for games development. Dr Koh Wee Lit from Red Hare Studios has developed a game – Spell Caster – in the centre that is planned for release in 2012.
Hoong’s 2D arcade shooter game, called PhaseShift, may also be launched in 2012 by his startup – Dark Potatoes Studios.
Two other local startups setting up taking advantage of the partnership include SBA Mobile Solutions and Gamma Games.
