The new release of CA Unified Infrastructure Management (CA UIM) further bolsters the company’s offering for unified monitoring and management of critical IT services and infrastructure.

“IT organisations are increasingly facing the critical need to develop and deploy applications with precision and speed, while also delivering the reliability and responsiveness that users demand,” said Stephen Miles, vice president, Enterprise Management. CA UIM’s scalable, end-to-end monitoring capabilities help IT organizations and service providers stay ahead of potential infrastructure issues that could impact customer experience by enabling staff to proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure optimal performance of their critical IT services, CA Technologies.

Formerly known as CA Nimsoft Monitor, the new release boosts IT performance by improving service reliability and staff productivity with enhanced analytics, alerting and cloud monitoring capabilities.

Enhanced analytics in CA UIM, including “time to threshold,” predictively calculates and identifies threats in performance to provide early warnings of problems so that they can be corrected before end users are impacted.

Also, by leveraging new “time over threshold” analytics, IT staff can better determine real and persistent performance issues that need to be addressed while minimizing false alarms due to occasional spikes.

In addition to the enhanced analytics and alarms delivered by CA Unified Infrastructure Management, the new release also includes updates to help users monitor and optimise performance within Amazon Web Services (AWS).

POTD: St Peter’s Abbey – where Mozart played and conducted

St Peter’s Abbey was founded in 696 AD by Saint Rupert, at the site of a church from the early days of Christianity.

Until 987, the abbot of the Abbey was also the Archbishop of Salzburg.

The current building was built in the Romanesque period in the 13th century, and completely renovated in the Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The monastery also houses the oldest library in Austria, with some 800 manuscripts and 100,000 volumes.

The light within the Abbey was rather dim and I didn’t want to use any flash – so it was a good opportunity to put the reputed low-light prowess of the Sony A7 to the test.

We found this beautiful statue of the Holy Mother and Child within St Peter’s Abbey and I looked it up on the Web afterwards.

Review: LG G3 Android KitKat smartphone with QHD display

October 9th, 2014

Following the success of its well-received LG G2, I like the large stunning QHD display of the LG G3 and totally enjoyed using the flagship smartphone over the past few weeks.

The LG G3 is available in Singapore in 32GB (S$868) and 64GB (S$928) models.

The LG G3 is available in Singapore in 32GB (S$868) and 64GB (S$928) models.

The LG G3 is one of the first smartphones to sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD display – other makers are only now beginning to ship QHD on their flagships.

The 538 ppi resolution of the G3 is one of the highest in the market now and is equivalent to four times the resolution of HD and almost two times that of a Full HD display.

The sharper detail was remarkable especially when viewing 4K video on the display. Even Full HD video looked sharper and clearer.

The LG G3 is one of the best smartphones that I’ve used that are currently on the market. Fast and smooth, with great display and excellent camera.

The other thing that impressed me was the camera (sample shots at the end of this review).

The 13-megapixel rear camera comes with OIS+ (Optical Image Stabiliser Plus) and uses an innovative Laser Auto Focus for faster and more accurate focus on the subject.

The LG G3 comes in five colours: Metallic Black, Silk White and Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red.
