I was wondering how well Intel has penetrated the mobile market. Here are some quick updates from Jonathan Ong, Area Sales Manager of Intel Singapore & Malaysia.
According to the September report of the Strategy Analytics, Intel ranked second in Application Processor Shipment in Q2 of 2014.
The keys to their mobile strategy:
- Compute performance based on true 64-bit architecture
- Global communications platforms
- Leading manufacturing technology
There are now more than 200 smartphone/tablet designs currently in the market or coming this year in over 150 countries.
Examples of their latest smartphone partner products include:
- Samsung Galaxy Alpha
- ASUS ZenFone 5 & ZenFone 6
Tablet partners include Acer, Dell and Lenovo, amongst others.
Intel processor-based tablets are able to run Windows 8 and offer the familiarity and compatibility of desktop applications, with touch interactivity.
I’m seeing more and more tablets that are 10.1” and smaller driven by the multi-core/multi-thread Intel Atom Z3700 Series processors.
These usually come preloaded with Microsoft Office and some even come in hybrid configurations, like the Acer Aspire Switch 10 which is a 2-in-1 tablet that can be docked into its keyboard to become a laptop.
