Nissan will showcase its widest line-up of electrified vehicles at the Singapore Motorshow 2023, fronted by the Nissan Ariya and Nissan X-Trail e-POWER.
“Today, we are excited to showcase two new electrified models – the Ariya (right), a full EV SUV and the all-new X-Trail e-POWER (left). They represent the pinnacle of Nissan’s electrified technologies which gives the very unique instant acceleration feel for great driving satisfaction,” says Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Tan Chong International Limited.
For the first time in Southeast Asia, the Nissan Ariya, Nissan’s 100% electric luxury coupé crossover, will make its first appearance.
“Nissan’s long-term vision is built around electrification and vehicle intelligence technologies, with our innovation enabling exciting, confident, and safe journeys. We continue to pursue our goal of a zero-emission and zero-fatality society, with Singapore leading the way in Nissan ASEAN’s electrification ambition with the widest range of electrified vehicles,” says Nirmal Nair, Vice President, Nissan Importer Business Unit, Nissan ASEAN.
This ASEAN premiere also launches Nissan’s new electrified brand identity in Southeast Asia.
Sharing the limelight is the new Nissan X-Trail e-POWER premium SUV that targets families and c-suite executives looking for a new electrified vehicle.
The new generation SUV is built to enhance the driving experience and provide comfort.
It comes equipped with a new electric all-wheel drive system, called e-4ORCE.
Combined with the latest twin-motor e-POWER electrified powertrain, it promises an instantaneous yet smooth 100% electric drive without having the need for plug-in charging.

Singapore Motorshow 2023 returns after a three year hiatus. In partnership with Mediacorp and sponsored by HL Bank, AIG and Motul, the show will be held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre with 25 participating brands.
The Singapore Motorshow 2023 will showcase new car models, concept cars, electric and electrified vehicles; as well as the Russ Swift stunt car performances; and the chance to meet Mediacorp celebrities.
With a key focus on sustainable driving, visitors can look forward to a variety of EV and Hybrid Electric Vehicles from brands such as the 100% electric-driven and pro-sustainability Polestar, Nissan, and MINI etc.
From 13 – 15 January 2023, visitors can look forward to special appearances by Mediacorp celebrities such as Pierre Png, Rebecca Lim, Elvin Ng, Kym Ng, and He Ying Yin etc. Radio DJs Kun Hua and Hazelle from Yes 933 will also be at Honda’s booth.
Subaru will also be featuring a cutaway display of their Extraordinary SUV Forester and Hyundai will be having a charity bidding session at the upcoming show with their “IONIQ 5 4WD LR INSPIRATION”.
#t4tSgMotorshow2023: The #SingaporeMotoshow returns after a three year hiatus. Here’s Glen Tan – Dy Chairman and MD, Tan Chong – kicking off the show which will last until Sunday(15 Jan).
In its seventh installment, the Singapore Motorshow is presented by the Motor Traders Association of Singapore (MTA) in partnership with Mediacorp.

Hyundai Motor Group will share its vision of a Smart City through innovative and sustainable urban mobility at SITCE 2022, which will take place from today (2 November 2022) to Friday (4 November).
At the exhibition booth, the Hyundai Motor Group presents how its advanced mobility innovations can evolve and contribute to the sustainable growth in urban city in the future by exhibiting its series of mobility solutions. Visitors can experience and get a glimpse of the future smart city which the Group envisions.
Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS), Hyundai Rotem Company and Motional are jointly participating in the 3-day Singapore International Transport Congress & Exhibition (SITCE) at Suntec Convention Centre (Hall 4F).

For this second half of our commentary, we begin with an introduction of SerDes.
In today’s infotainment systems, it is common for in-vehicle cameras and displays to be connected to the image-processing electronic control unit (ECU) via a SerDes (serializer/deserializer) connection.
Future Prediction
More cameras, more connections, and more sensors with greater accuracy, less weight, and increased safety.
Undoubtedly, there will be a need for an in-vehicle network to seamlessly handle these challenges.
Those in-vehicle networks will need to be tested, they will need to be interoperable, and they will need to be secure.
Today, they are delivered by individual vendors using closed, proprietary standards.
Extending the reach of feature-rich SerDes links can require operating at lower Baud rates and higher order modulations (e.g. PAM-4).
In addition, it will require higher bandwidth Ethernet links as primary interconnects between zones, perhaps with 802.3ch support up to 10 Gbps throughput.
Emerging SerDes standards like mobile industry processor interface (MIPI) A-PHY (MIPI A-PHY is a physical layer specification targeted for ADAS/ADS surround sensor applications and Infotainment display applications in automotive) and Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) will be implemented by multiple silicon vendors.
This will create a competitive market that acts to drive down the cost while delivering application specific features.

Fewer accidents and greater road safety are central to the vision for automated vehicles (AVs). Enabling that vision requires greater situational awareness and the ability to inform the car and its drivers what is happening a mile in front of them, foreseeing what’s likely to happen next, and automatically taking preemptive actions.

Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology provides see-through, 360-degree, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) sensing in good, as well as adverse weather conditions to enhance the functionality and safety of autonomous driving (see the cover illustration).

The future of motoring is in the connected/networked smart vehicle.
As demand rises around the world, the connected vehicle market is one of the fastest growing segments of the Internet of Things, potentially generating application revenue of US$273 billion by 2026, according to Machina Research’s forecasts.
C-V2X complements line-of-sight (LOS) sensors such as radar, lidar, camera, with information beyond their reach, and allows the vehicle to make more informed and coordinated decisions.
Whereas LOS sensors cannot indicate vehicle or driver intent, C-V2X conveys intent by sharing sensor data – resulting in a higher level of predictability in traffic situations such as lane changes, variable speeds, or road hazards.
Day one use cases include safety features such as emergency electronic brake light and forward collision warning, ‘do not pass’ warning, blind spot and lane change warning, vulnerable road user, road works warning, and intersection movement assistance.

Three rapidly advancing technologies are driving this collective race towards zero-emission e-mobility: wide-bandgap (WBG) devices, more power-dense batteries, and faster charging capabilities.

Since its inception on a paper napkin more than a decade ago, Formula E has evolved rapidly as a motorsport with a mission.
Entertainment aside, this electric streetcar racing’s founding mission is to showcase sustainable mobility to the world, and it has done pretty well.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) is the future of the automotive industry and Tesla has this week just become the first carmaker to be valued at US$1 trillion – the sixth American company to hit a trillion-dollar valuation.
The company is now worth more than the next nine most valuable public carmakers combined.
It’s the only motorsport to have ISO 20121 certification for net zero carbon footprint since its first race in Shanghai in 2014.
Getting the Formula E car into pole-position entails a lot of hardware and software technology to extract maximum efficiency from the electric vehicle’s (EV) powertrain and battery.
For the key automotive OEMs, it’s not just about getting their car across the checkered flag first.
With billions of R&D dollars poured into developing better EVs, the goal of participating automakers goes beyond the championship trophy.
Learnings from these high-intensity races are applied to improve electromobility technologies back in the R&D labs.
Three rapidly advancing technologies are driving this collective race towards zero-emission e-mobility:
- wide-bandgap (WBG) devices
- more power-dense batteries
- faster charging capabilities
Efficient power conversion with WBG devices
A lot of power conversion takes place in the EV.
A DC-DC converter for example, steps down the power from the high-voltage EV battery to 12 V, with further conversions to run onboard systems like lighting, radio, and air-conditioning (see the diagram above).
The author of this article is Hwee Yng Yeo, the industry solutions manager for Automotive and Energy at Keysight Technologies.
WBG devices such as Silicon carbide (SiC) and Gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors are used in transistors to facilitate this power conversion throughout the vehicle.
GaN applications are an emerging technology area, and developers find it hard to validate their design for these high-performance power converters.
Increased frequency and higher power affect the reliability of measurements needed to characterise the device’s performance.
It can be hard to distinguish whether the measured signal is the device’s characteristic or caused by the measurement setup.

The new Kona N is the latest addition to Hyundai’s high performance N brand and seeks to meld racetrack prowess with the versatility of a utility vehicle. Hyundai Motor will be expanding the N and N Line lineup to 18 models through 2022.
Kona N is not only the latest addition to Hyundai’s growing high-performance N lineup but is also the first N model with an SUV body style.
Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the all-new KONA N as well as its high-performance philosophy and ambition for sustainable driving fun at Hyundai N Day, a digital showcase dedicated to introducing Hyundai’s N Brand.
“We are thrilled to share the mindset, spirit and vision of the N brand to be a leader in the high-performance category powered by traditional internal combustion engines as well as our proven industry-leading battery electric and fuel cell electric vehicle technologies. Our continuously growing and more balanced N portfolio will open new high-performance options, delivering the ‘grin factor’ no matter what the propulsion technology or body type may be,” said Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Division at Hyundai Motor Company.

Through the showcase, the company also shared N brand’s high-performance philosophy and introduced a new brand claim ― “Never just drive” ― while also hinting at future N models in the pipeline.
Hyundai also highlighted its commitment to sustainable e-performance, giving a glimpse of the future direction for motorsport initiatives and how it will serve as a basis for upcoming N models.
The Korean company plans to enhance the e-performance of its N brand with BEV and hydrogen fuel cell powertrains.

Hyundai Singapore showcased the new 2021 Avante 1.6 sports sedan in its Komoco showroom in Singapore. The car has already been homologated in Singapore and should be in by November 2020.
Two trims are available in Singapore: Avante 1.6 “S”, Avante 1.6 “Elite”.
The theme for Hyundai’s design for the 2021 Avante is “Sensuous Sportiness”.
“Parametric Dynamics” is the phrase Hyundai designers use to describe the dramatic look of the all-new 2021 Hyundai Avante 1.6.

Komoco Motors has brought in the new Avante (Singapore & Korean name for the Elantra) to Singapore for a preview in its showroom.
The upcoming seventh-generation Elantra features an edgy and aggressive look based on parametric shapes and textures, which reflects Hyundai’s new design identity.
The world premier press conference will take place at 7 p.m. PT on Mar. 17, at The Lot Studios in West Hollywood, Calif. and will be livestreamed around the world.
