The AMBEO Smart Headset brings binaural sound recording to the consumer market. Price & availability TBA.
The Sennheiser AMBEO Smart Headset features an integrated premium Apogee A/D Converter built into the remote control.
Sennheiser has designed the AMBEO Smart Headset to be an intuitive, compact and mobile binaural recording headset.
First showcased at the CES 2017, the AMBEO Smart Headset captures immersive 3D audio with the simplicity of a mobile device.
“With this new headset you can use your iOS device’s camera to record, experience and relive the same balance of three dimensional sound and 180° visual perspective that we as human beings are accustomed to in our perception of the world,” explains Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, co-CEO Sennheiser.
The binaural audio recordings created with the AMBEO Smart Headset offer a stunning 3D experience – placing the listener inside the soundscape and playing back the direction of sounds and natural spatial characteristics of a location.
To create this headset, Sennheiser partnered with Apogee, the manufacturer of professional audio device, and an industry leader of digital audio recording.
The AMBEO Smart Headset produces detailed and realistic recording via two omni-directional microphones integrated in the ear pieces that work alongside a premium A/D converter, mic preamp and SoftLimit from Apogee.
The two microphones capture the subtle differences in timing, volume and timbre that occur as sounds from different directions reach each ear.

The Hybrid IT Readiness Report is the result of a CenturyLink study that shows that 75% of organisations already outsource managed services as business growth remains a priority.

The CenturyLink Asia Pacific Hybrid IT Readiness Report 2016 surveyed 600 decision-makers across six key APAC markets in September 2016. The full report can be downloaded here. Click on image to enlarge.
The study from CenturyLink indicates that hybrid IT is the pervasive IT infrastructure model for organisations in Asia Pacific, including Japan (APJ).
“Digital disruption is changing the way we approach business today globally. In particular, IT departments are experiencing tremendous change as organisations turn IT into a driving force for all aspects of the business, including the customer experience.” said Gery Messer, managing director, Asia Pacific, CenturyLink.
This as a vast majority are taking transformative steps to match workloads to their best execution venue across a blend of in-house and third-party services.
According to the CenturyLink Asia Pacific Hybrid IT Readiness Report 2016, 73 percent of organisations are aware of the hybrid IT deployment model.
75 percent of them already outsource at least one or more data center, network, security or applications services to third-party managed service providers.
In addition, 84 percent of organisations cite security as the key driver to consider managed service providers.

“As more organisations turn to a blend of in-house and third-party IT services, it is important for leaders to address concerns on security. They need to carefully assess their technology partners to ensure that security capabilities are well embedded in all of their offerings – managed hosting, managed services, network solutions, colocation and cloud. Only then will they be able to help IT transform into a secure hub for innovation,” elaborated Messer. Click on image to enlarge.
The report also found that service delivery improvements involving data centers (63 percent) and network (52 percent) are key drivers for executives to outsource IT services.

IBM empowers Singapore startup – FreshTurf – with Blockchain and Bluemix for island-wide federated lockers network.

Working in the IBM Bluemix Garage, FreshTurf plans to create and deploy unique logistics app with blockchain and cloud.
IBM is working with Singapore start-up FreshTurf in the Singapore location of its IBM Bluemix Garage network.
“As a startup, we wanted a partner and mentor who would guide us through the journey of adopting blockchain and building with cloud, while also helping us to grow. During the Design Thinking workshop, we had access to technical expertise, consulting and guidance through working with the IBM Bluemix Garage which allowed us to quickly build our concept. The IBM Bluemix Garage’s methods of Design Thinking, use of cloud and agile development practices served as the foundation of our startup,” said Jarryl Hong, Co-Founder, FreshTurf.
Using IBM Cloud and Blockchain technologies, FreshTurf has been working with IBM Bluemix Garage developers and designers to create a network of storage lockers for shipping and parcel delivery throughout Singapore.
This locker ledger network is designed to help improve the “last mile” of delivery services for consumers and businesses, or the final leg of a package’s journey to a customer’s home.
Blockchain is a technology for a new generation of transactions which establish accountability and transparency while streamlining business processes.
Fueled by and built on Bluemix, IBM’s cloud platform, IBM and FreshTurf aims to build a distributed ledger platform prototype specifically designed to manage commercial transactions between merchants, logistic vendors, locker companies and consumers.
Not only can the application of blockchain technology help provide visibility across the fulfilment chain, allowing users to track their parcel and delivery status from the convenience of their phone, it can help stakeholders to conduct shipping transactions in a highly secure and trusted environment.

The global survey finds that almost 1-in-2 Singaporeans plan to be self-employed during the next 10 years.

In Singapore, 74 percent of Millennials say that they plan to be full time entrepreneurs during the next 10 years. The global percentage is only at 50 percent.
Fueled by technology that has made entrepreneurship easier than ever, a strong desire for autonomy, and a willingness to try establishing a business again in the event of failure, the number of professionals looking to create their own business or be self-employed has spiked, according to a new global survey commissioned by GoDaddy.

32 percent of Millennials surveyed in Singapore started their current business while they were still in school. That makes them sixteen times more likely to pursue entrepreneurship as a career than their Gen X counterparts did while still pursuing their studies.
The research found that 36 percent of the respondents globally plan to either start a small business, or be self-employed within the next 10 years.
In Singapore, 41 percent of respondents surveyed plan to do the same.

Progress survey finds businesses have under two years to make digital inroads before suffering financial and competitive losses.

“Digital disruption is now part of our daily existence as it has changed how we live, communicate and work. Yet, many organisations in Singapore continue to deny that digital technologies have already radically transformed the business landscape and struggle to embark on the transformation journey, consequently risking their survival,” said Benjamin Wong, Managing Director, Asia, Progress.
Progress today announced the results of its recent global survey, “Are Businesses Really Digitally Transforming or Living in Digital Denial?”.
While most businesses in Singapore and other markets around the world recognise the inherent benefits of “going digital,” the majority of respondents are hitting roadblocks—lack of internal alignment, lack of adequate skills and plenty of cultural resistance.

“This survey brings to light the reality of today’s digital transformation challenges. By providing business leaders with tangible data points, we hope they will better understand the key aspects to focus on in order to succeed in the changing business landscape,” added Wong.
Coupled with technology constraints and an overall inability to execute, the result is a growing state of anxiety about embarking on digital transformation, with some fearing it may already be too late.
The survey, conducted in Q1 2016 by Loudhouse, the specialist research division of Octopus Group, aimed to better understand how business leaders view digital transformation and learn their plans to address its challenges.
Respondents included individuals from 10 countries including Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom and the United States.
Survey respondents included a mix of more than 700 global C-Level/VP decision makers; heads of marketing, digital and IT; as well as developers, IT architects, directors, engineers and line of business managers.
