SingTel launches Singapore’s first 4G service for tablets

SingTel today announced that it will launch Singapore’s first 4G service for tablets on 28 August. Two models will be offered: Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (LTE). Details of price plans within.

The service will offer tablet users theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps and typical download speeds between 3.4Mbps and 12Mbps.

It will provide mobile Internet access that is more than three times faster than existing 21Mbps 3G tablet services, with one-fifth of the network latency.

Joanne-Marie Sim kicks off Season 2 of SingTel TGIS

SingTel has launched the second season of TGIS –  the popular lifestyle series on YouTube. At the moment, the plan is to have 12 bi-weekly episodes hosted by Joanne-Marie Sim, the svelte host from Season 1.

With a new look for its second season, TGIS aims to entertain and educate young Singaporean adults on infotainment news with local and international flavor.

TGIS kicked off its second season on August 8, 2012 with a National Day special episode, featuring popular Singaporean artists and personalities like Hossan Leong, Tay Kewei, Ginette Chittick and Alvelyn Alko.

They were being interviewed by Joanne-Marie Sim, who was voted Singapore’s next social media star during last year’s SingTel Facebook casting call.

On the show, they shared their views on what it means to be Singaporean and also their fields of work.

Upcoming episodes will include uncovering some of Singapore’s emerging technology and entertainment talents.

TGIS features things Singaporeans are passionate about and helps viewers make sense of the world of gadgets, social media and technology.

“With Season 2, SingTel continues to give viewers a fresh perspective on the latest technologies and gadgets, and how they can enhance their everyday lives,” said Miguel Bernas, SingTel’s Director of Digital Marketing.

In addition to an exciting line-up of personalities and stories, viewers will be able to shape the episodes for Season Two in the coming weeks.

Through SingTel’s YouTube page, they can provide comments to influence how the episodes will play out.

The second episode of TGIS will go live on August 29, 2012.

Weekend outing: SingTel Formula 1 roadshow at Big Splash

Returning title sponsor of the Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix for the fifth year, has partnered with Singapore GP to organise a series of roadshows across Singapore which will culminate in the final roadshow on 1-2 September.

Roadshow attendees will also be treated to a live screening of the race in true high-definition and in 3D.

On the second day at this “F1 for Everyone” roadshow, SingTel will be unveiling this year’s F1 trophy and crowning the top 3 SingTel Grid Girls.

Also in store is an exciting showdown as we conclude the search for Singapore’s fastest electric go-kart race car driver who will win a pair of passes to a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the F1 drivers in person at the autograph signing session.

You can vote for the top three Singaporean faces to flag off this year’s Singapore Grand Prix race.

Fifth-time title sponsor of the FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has unveiled this year’s top eight SingTel Grid Girls and their new uniforms.

Members of the public will be able to vote for the top three from among the eight finalists who are from 18 to 23 years old.

This year’s SingTel Grid Girls will be sporting striking outfits designed by 26-year-old local design talent, Ms Roslinda Abdul Rahman.

She is the winner of The Project Racetrack.

The uniforms for all 55 SingTel Grid Girls will be sponsored by local fashion design house ESTA Pte Ltd.

The Project Racetrack

The Project Racetrack is an F1 fashion design competition integrated with a 74-hour long fashion design training course.

It was conducted by the Textile and Fashion Industry Training Centre (also known as TaF.tc) and Singapore WSQ Develop Design Collection in partnership with SingTel.

The competition serves as a platform for young aspiring designers to develop and showcase their creativity with F1 as an inspiration.

The three finalists will be given the important role of holding the Singapore, Formula One and Singapore GP flags at the race in September.

The top three 2012 SingTel Grid Girls will be crowned at the SingTel “F1 for Everyone” Roadshow at East Coast Park on 2 September.

This year, for the first time, the results will be based purely on online and SMS voting.

From 3 August to 27 August 2012, the public can find out more about and vote for their favourite SingTel Grid Girls at www.singtelrace.com or via SMS.

Voters stand to win a pair of Singapore Grand Prix Pit Grandstand Tickets worth $1,488.

Samsung launches Angry Birds and SingTel mio TV PLAY apps for Smart TV

The two new apps joins more than 400 other apps available for the Samsung Smart TV, with more to come in the next few months.

Angry Birds is developed by Rovio Entertainment. Throughout game play, all actions - including level of difficulty selection and screen zoom in/out - are performed using motion control. Players can activate the unique skills of each bird and even control the game’s trademark slingshot action using arm movement enabled by the built-in camera.

SingTel partners HP on Singapore Government’s G-Cloud

SingTel today announced that it has chosen HP as its strategic partner for the G-Cloud five-year tender award by the IDA. G-Cloud will be the first extensive private cloud for all government agencies in Singapore.

SingTel and HP will partner to build "Innovum" which will power the Singapore Government G-Cloud.

Photo Contest: Home Without Walls (Open Category)

SingTel has launched the Open Category of the “Home Without Walls” photo contest. The contest is open to all Singaporeans from today to 5 August, 2012; and has a top prize of S$2,500.

This contest is part of a series of activities under the “Home Without Walls” campaign.

The campaign aims to inspire Singaporeans to connect with their families and forge stronger bonds with their loved ones.

The Grand Prize winner for the Open Category contest will walk away with S$2,500, and the individual winners for each of the four category themes will enjoy S$500 in cash prize.

This photo contest is open to all Singaporeans and submission is done through the SingTel FaceBook page.

Photographs can be taken with any camera, including mobile devices. Selected entries will be collated into a set of limited edition postcards which will be distributed at a later stage.

Winning photographs from each category will be published by SingTel.
