Acronis seals long-term sponsorship of F1 Scuderia Toro Rosso

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Founded in September 2003 in Singapore by CEO Serguei Beloussov, Acronis is the first Singapore principle company to sponsor a team in the world’s premier racing series.

“In our competitive environment it is becoming increasingly more important to protect all our technical information with a very high standard of software and Acronis can offer exactly what we need. Now that we have a long-term project together, we can’t wait to start working with Acronis, not only on a sponsorship level, but also in terms of adopting their data protection products within our factory and race team. I am sure we will both benefit from this technical cooperation and it will help our team to continue moving forward,” commented Team Principal Franz Tost.

Following the successful partnership between F1 team Scuderia Toro Rosso and Acronis during the Hungarian GP, the two parties have extended their agreement into a new long-term partnership, aimed at reaching new heights in racing and technological product development.

Acronis first announced its intentions to sponsor Toro Rosso back in May this year.

“Acronis is a cutting edge and forward looking company, growing rapidly in the field of data protection, which links in very well with the sport. This cooperation will see them and us work well and progress together,” said Scuderia Toro Rosso driver, Daniil Kvyat.

How Dell powers IT needs of the Caterham Formula 1 Team

Monday, September 23rd, 2013

During the Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix over the weekend, I popped down to Caterham’s garage to get up close with how Dell provides the complex IT systems needed to power Caterham’s data processing needs.

Dell and Intel are global sponsors and technology partners of the Caterham F1 Team.

Dell and Intel are global sponsors and technology partners of the Caterham F1 Team.

To provide the computing resource needed at the circuit, Caterham uses Dell’s “Active System” – a converged “Half-rack” housing all servers, storage and connectivity.

These include 30 virtual machines on Dell PowerEdge R620 & R720, 10 Dell Force10 PowerConnect switches, 25TB of trackside storage using EqualLogic and server platforms utilising SSDs.

In addition, there are some 100 Dell Latitude laptops, including Dell XPS and Latitude 10 tablets; as well as 20 high-powered Dell Precision mobile workstations.

What if the half-rack fails?

Dell has also implemented a disaster recovery system (DRS) to continue running the F1 cars in such a contingency.

The DRS comprises a Dell PowerEdge R720xd server for “snap-shotting” virtual machines, a Dell PowerEdge R210, a SonicWall firewall, and an Artist node to run the intercom system.

With this set-up, Dell has made Caterham one of the leading F1 teams in terms of consolidated and virtualised trackside computing.
