Promotion: StarHub introduces 3GB-for-$3 data top-up

Customers who sign up for or renew their StarHub 4G plans, can enjoy the new 3GB data upsize at promotional monthly rate of only $3. Usual monthly rate of $6 will apply for customers who sign up from 1 April.

The table above is a summary of the various StarHub’s plan and how they can be enhanced by the 3GB-for-$3 promotion.

With the new offer, subscribers of StarHub’s “4G 3” plan can enjoy 6GB data bundle at a slightly increased monthly subscription rate of S$45.90.

Previously, a “4G 6” subscription plan would have set consumers back S$102.90 every month, although the plan does offer more local talktime and SMS.

StarHub will reach out to customers who signed up for one of these StarHub 4G plans on 10 March and offer them this data upsize option.

From tomorrow, customers can sign up for this offer at any of the 48 StarHub retail outlets across the island.

Promotion: M1 offers Upsized Data and added SIM-only plans

Following Singtel’s announcement of its DataX2 offer yesterday, M1 also offers Upsized Data for its postpaid customers at S$5.90; as well as two new SIM-only plans, and increased data for the existing SIM-only plans. StarHub is expected to follow suit with their data-upsize offer.

Here’s a summary of M1’s promotions:

  • Two new SIM-only plans – mySIM+ 15 and mySIM+ 20.
  • Data bundles enhanced for current SIM-only plans of up to 20GB.
  • S$5.90 Upsized Data gives smartphone plan users up to 12GB extra.

M1, which introduced its SIM-only plans last July, is adding two new SIM-only plans – the mySIM+ 15 and mySIM+ 20.

The S$20 per month mySIM+ 20 comes with a data bundle of 4GB, 150 minutes of calls and 800 SMS/MMS.

For S$15, the mySIM+ 15 offers 1GB data, 100 minutes of calls and 600 SMS/MMS.

Samsung Pay to expand globally beyond Korea & USA

The payment service from Samsung set to expand globally in 2016 to new countries and partners.

In 2016, Samsung Pay will start global expansion beginning with China in March, followed by Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Spain and the U.K. later in the year.

“Since its introduction last year, Samsung Pay has changed the way people pay and use their smartphones. We’ve already seen significant consumer adoption and we continue to see great momentum. Our aim is to expand Samsung Pay to even more locations around the world, and our customers should expect to see more features in the year to come,” said InJong Rhee, EVP and Head of R&D, Software and Services of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

Canada will be added to the new launch roadmap.

According to Samsung Electronics, Samsung Pay now has about five million registered users over 500 million dollars processed in the first six months, showing a strong adoption rate in South Korea and the U.S since the launch of the payment service in these two countries in August and September 2015 respectively.

Samsung Pay is currently available on select Galaxy devices including S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, Note5 as well as premium and mid-range options such as the 2016 models of both Galaxy A5 and A7.

Samsung Pay will also expand its enhanced services to more than just credit or debit cards, adding transit passes, coupons and membership cards to its available payment modes.

Samsung Pay is now available on Google Play as a free download for compatible devices.

New arrival: ASUS ZenFone Zoom and ZenFone Max smartphones

ASUS has launched in Singapore its two latest Android smartphones. Both the ZenFone Zoom (S$659, sold exclusively with StarHub) and the ZenFone Max (S$249) will be available in Singapore from 10 March. Specs & StarHub price plans below.

I tried out the ASUS ZenFone Zoom a few weeks prior to its launch in Singapore and the 3x optical zoom in the camera certainly gives it the advantage over regular smartphones relying on digital zoom.

Online bullying more worrisome than physical playground bullying, says Norton

52% of Millennial parents in Singapore surveyed believe their children are more likely to be bullied online than on a playground and 56% worry their children will give out too much personal information to strangers.

Findings from the Norton Cybersecurity Insights Report 2015 highlighted parental concerns about their children in the online world.

“In the last year, Norton has seen the online safety awareness levels of parents increase rapidly as technology firmly cements itself in the family home,” said Gavin Lowth, Vice President, Norton Consumer and Small Business, Asia Pacific and Japan.

Cyberbullying, online predators and privacy are some of the biggest issues parents in Singapore are grappling with as bullying moves from the playground to the online world.

Parents are concerned about their children being lured into meeting a stranger in the outside world (52 percent) and more parents are worried that their children will be bullied online (46 percent) than if their children take on the role as the online bully (38 percent).

The Norton Cybersecurity Insights Report is an online survey of 17,125 device users aged 18+ across 17 markets, commissioned by Norton by Symantec.

GoDaddy launches in 11 markets across Asia to continue expansion

The Webhosting and Domain Registrar giant will offer localised products and support targeting Small and Medium Enterprises which account for 97% of businesses in Asia.

Following today’s launch in 11 additional markets in Asia, GoDaddy is now in 53 markets, supporting 26 languages and 44 currencies. GoDaddy has more than 4 million international customers.
