Homegrown Prism+ attains Android TV certification and launches three new affordably-priced TVs measuring 55” (S$699), 65” (S$99), and 75” (S$1,599). Available online from today.

New Prism+ Q-series Android TVs launched in Singapore (from left): 55”, 75”, 65”.
Having just entered the smart TV market last November with their inaugural E-series (32”, 43”, 55”), Prism+ is now launching their second generation of smart TVs that are Android TV certified.
Features
All the three sizes of IPS TVs in the Q-series have the same specs except for the size.
They are bezel-less (except the 75” version) with 4K UHD resolution, comes with HDR10, Dolby Vision and Audio, MEMC Motion Smoothing, DTS TruSurround, Digital TV, Bluetooth 5.0, and Puffin TV Browser.
They come with 3 years Full onsite warranty inclusive of parts and servicing.
That means that the new Q series Android TVs ships with the Android TV 9.0 operating system, more than 5,000 apps on Google Play, Google Assistant to voice control the TV, and built-in Chromecast to cast photos and videos from the phone or computer to the TV.
And the TVs are affordably priced because Prism+ sells directly to the consumer and removes the extra layer of middlemen mark-up that other makers have to price into their TVs.

The Montblanc MB 01 is the best pair of noise-cancelling headphones that I’ve heard in a long time, and the physical design is nothing less than what you’d expect from the luxury maison.
The Montblanc MB 01 combines elegant Montblanc design, long-lasting comfort and good sound quality for a great travel companion.
When Montblanc first launched the MB 01 over-ear headphones in Singapore, I was curious on whether they would be able to produce the sound quality to compete with the market leaders.
I love their stationary, but audio wise, this was their first foray.
So when Montblanc asked if I would like to try out the MB 01, I decided to give it a spin.

The leather headband and ear pads, aluminum parts and silicone ear cups give the Montblanc MB 01 a luxurious and stylish design.
The MB 01 made a great first impression when I first scooped it out of the box – the luxurious leather ear cushions and headband and shiny metallic parts give you the same feeling of luxury as when you behold one of the company’s fountain pens.
Then I put it to charge – it takes two hours for a complete charge via the USB-C port.
So my son comes along and, with my permission, tries out the headphones.
When I was ready to try out the MB 01, I’d barely picked up my smartphone when the Android notification told me that the MB 01 was ready to pair, and in no time I was listening to the headphones (after my son disconnected).
This must be the easiest I’ve connected to a new pair of headphones!

The InfinityGlove contains ultra-sensitive microfibre sensors that can translate hand gestures into in-game commands, allowing users to play first-person shooters such as Battlefield V without the need for a traditional controller or a keyboard.

The InfinityGlove was developed by a team of NUS researchers led by Professor Lim Chwee Teck (left). With him are two members of the research team, Dr Yeo Joo Chuan (centre) and Dr Yu Longteng (right). Photo: National University of Singapore.
Simply flex your index finger to fire your weapon and rotate your wrist clockwise to move forward. Immersive controls have always been a pipedream in the world of gaming but is steadily becoming reality.
Editor’s Comments
This is an interesting and innovative project.
Currently each finger of the glove contains one microfibre sensor that can differentiate two states – straightened or curled – due to the difference in conductivity of the liquid metal within the fibre in the two states.
So the overall status of the glove should be readable as a five-digit binary.
Would be good to add one more to the wrist to include bending of the wrist.
And in the longer term, I can think of two ways of improving the resolution of the sensing.
One would be to implement multiple sensors per strand of microfibre.
Another would be to weave multiple microfibre strands to provide a matrix detection pattern for a snapshot of the state of each sensor.
That could probably come in useful as a grid sensor to monitor the distribution of stresses/deformation on a surface etc.
A team of researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS), led by Professor Lim Chwee Teck, has developed a smart glove – called ‘InfinityGlove’ – that allows users to mimic a variety of in-game controls using simple hand gestures.
While the concept of controlling a game using your hands is not new, the main problems have always been weight and flexibility.
The current generation of smart glove type controllers available on the market are usually bulky and rigid as they rely on conventional sensors which put the hard in hardware.
The InfinityGlove overcomes existing problems with weight and flexibility by weaving ultra-thin, highly sensitive microfibre sensors into the material of the glove.
These sensors are not only lightweight and accurate, but also fulfil the role of wires thus reducing the need for additional wiring.
Currently the prototype weighs about 40 grams, and is flexible and comfortable.
More details below from the press release.
