Apple unveils iPad Air 2 & iPad mini 3 and other new products

Following last month’s big launch of the iPhone 6, Tim Cook has just introduced the new iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Apple also unveiled a new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display (from S$3,388), updated the Mac mini and made OS X Yosemite available today as a free upgrade.

The new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are available in three metallic finishes: gold, silver and space grey.

This is the second big launch for Apple close on the heels of the iPhone 6 launch last month.

The iPad Air 2 is only 6.1mm thin and weighs less than 450g, featuring improved Retina display for enhanced contrast and richer, more vibrant colours, and better cameras for taking stunning photos and videos.

The new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 offer Touch ID so users can unlock their iPad with the touch of a finger.

ASUS showcases 12 new products in Singapore for 2014

In its main product launch for 2014 in Singapore, ASUS launched a slew of 12 new business, consumer and gaming products – including the Transformer Book T300 Chi, ROG G751 and ZenWatch.

Many of the devices were first unveiled during IFA 2014 in early September, the highlight of which was the ZenWatch – the company’s first wearable device.

It will be available in Singapore for S$299 from end of 2014.

Another significant milestone is the unveiling of devices incorporating the latest Intel Core M processor, also unveiled during IFA 2014 – the Transformer Book T300 Chi is one of the earliest off the block to ship with the new chip.

The new Core M, which enables razor-thin, energy-efficient, fanless designs for 2-in-1 devices must have played a large part in making the Transformer Book T300 Chi the world’s slimmest 12.5-inch detachable 2-in-1 tablet.

The new HP Pavilion x2 is a full-featured 10-inch diagonal Windows tablet that transforms into a full-featured laptop with a detachable dual-purpose keyboard/cover that both protects the screen and serves as a multi-position stand.

HP’s three new ENVY printers enable direct printing from smartphones and tablets.

Intel launches the Intel Core M Processor at IFA 2014

The new Core M enables razor-thin, energy-efficient, fanless designs and will be available in the holiday season of 2014.

The new Intel Core M processor will power a slew of new 2-in-1 devices from manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba.

Offering a combination of mobility and performance, Intel’s new processor aims to provide performance in thin, fanless mobile devices.

Intel boasts that the Core M processor can power razor-thin devices with Intel Core level performance and deliver up to double the battery life when compared to a four-year old system.

Additional Intel Core M platform features include support for high-quality audio, Intel Wireless Display 5.0, Intel’s second generation 802.11ac products and will evolve to support wireless docking with WiGig from Intel.

ASUS unveils ZenWatch, Zenbook UX305, EeeBook X205 & MeMO Pad 7 at IFA 2014

ASUS has announced at IFA 2014 its first wearable device, the ZenWatch; the 13.3-inch Zenbook UX305 Ultrabook; the 11-inch EeeBook X205 compact laptop; and the 7-inch MeMO Pad 7 Android tablet.

The Lenovo Horizon 2 is a two-in-one Windows 8 PC providing multi-touch use at any angle, while the ThinkPad 10 is a tablet optimised for business professionals seeking both flexibility and mobility.

The 27-inch Horizon 2 is now much thinner and lighter than its predecessor – the IdeaCentre Horizon.
