Photo of the Day: Cavalia is an equestrian theatrical performance that leverages innovative multimedia displays and multi-disciplinary performances. It is now running in Singapore from 12 August to 14 September 2014.
* All the photos in this article (except the portrait of Alain Gaulthier) were taken with a Sony A7R full-frame mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, with a 55-210mm E-mount zoom lens. Photo credit: John Tan.

This pretty lady kept looking in my direction, so I took a portrait for her.
The production was created by Normand Latourelle, one of the co-founders of the famed Cirque du Soleil.
“Cavalia” is a fabricated word, inspired by the Spanish and French words for horse (caballo and cheval) and the English word cavalry.
Hailing from Montreal in Canada, the lavish production involves 50 horses and 46 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world.
Since the show’s debut in 2003, some 4 million people from North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East have watched the show.

Cast and dancers of Cavalia at the end of the show. I love how the lady’s face lit up when she turned around and smiled at her fellow dancer.
There has been more than 2,400 performances over the course of ten years. The 50 horses in Cavalia comprises 11 different breeds.

The PhotoNote app digitses analog material into an online photo notebook – for more efficient management and more effective communications.

New freemium app from Fuji Xerox: PhotoNote – an online photo notebook.
SkyDesk PhotoNote captures and stores analog content into digital form for more efficient storage and access and enables these content to be easily shared with co-workers, partners or customers for more effective communications.
Hand-written-character recognition
PhotoNote’s digitisation uses Fuji Xerox’s proprietary character-recognition technology for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that includes recognition of hand-written characters.
The technology mimics a human’s visual information processing and this is the first time such technology is used on commercialised software.
Currently, only English and Japanese are supported.
Most of the features are free, with additional storage and Excel conversion feature available as paid options (prices within).
The app works with iOS and Android and is available in Singapore, Australia and Japan.
PhotoNote digitises physical memos or meeting notes jotted down during business discussions and stores them in the cloud – enabling easy access by the user and quick sharing of the information with others.
To digitise printed material, forms, handwritten memos and whiteboards, simply snap a photo using a smartphone or digital camera and upload the photo onto SkyDesk on the cloud.
The PhotoNote app automatically conducts image processing and OCR conversion, storing the image together with tags and additional text annotations, as well as text data from the conversion.
Easy search can be done on the database of PhotoNote records based on recorded time/date, tags, and the converted text.

Fuji Xerox is the first in the office equipment industry to open a direct office in Myanmar, with the aim of becoming the market leader in the emerging market within three years – in terms of sales revenue.

Fuji Xerox is setting up office in Myanmar to help expand its business in the developing nation.
The Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (Myanmar Branch) in Yangon began operations on 1 April, 2013 and is headed by its General Manager – Yoshio Hanada.
The branch will be staffed by another Japanese and six local employees.
Since the start of the new government in 2011, Myanmar has been promoting deregulation which is stimulating its economy.
Competitors in Myanmar
Two other big players are Canon and Konica Minolta, with Canon currently in pole position and Fuji Xerox third in market share by revenue, reckons Honda.
The enactment of the new foreign investment law in 2012 will be leading to the creation of a special economic zone.
The number of foreign corporations, including Japanese companies, entering Myanmar is rapidly increasing, which is likely to boost the country’s economic growth.
Currently, Fuji Xerox provides multifunction devices in Myanmar via a local dealer, Concordia.
Under current regulations, Fuji Xerox is not allowed to have a direct sales force in the country.
The Myanmar Branch will therefore provide the dealer with support in carrying out sales activities and sales consulting services, as well as make proposals for high value-added products such as high-speed color publishing systems.
It will also help accelerate business development for the Government Sector.
