New Olympus PEN E-PL5, STYLUS XZ-2 cameras and lenses for Photokina 2012

Olympus has unveiled two new cameras and three new lenses for Photokina 2012 (18-23 September). At the same time, it is consolidating all its compact cameras under the new STYLUS branding.

None of the pricing is available yet.

The Recommended Retail Price of the Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 has just been announced.

Photokina 2012 begins tomorrow and ends on Sunday. Below is a summary of the slew of cameras and lenses that Olympus has lined up for the biennial trade show in Cologne, Germany.

Skipping the inauspicious number “4” in the Japanese language, Olympus introduces the E-PL5, the successor to the E-PL3.Available in October 2012 in Silver, Black or White. STYLUS XZ-2 compact camera
The first member of the new STYLUS line, the XZ-2 is the successor to my favourite compact, the XZ-1.As the latest member of the STYLUS X series, the XZ-2 will be the flagship of the Olympus compact cameras.Available in November 2012 in Black.Features: 12 megapixels f1.8-2.5 bright lens 4x Optical zoom 28mm wide angle Touch AF Shutter Swivel screen 11 Art Filters Removable grip Hybrid control ring around the lens
M.Zuiko DIGITAL ED 12mm f2.0 Limited Edition Black Kit Lens
This lens will have a limited worldwide release of 3,000 sets, with 50 allocated to Singapore.Available in early October 2012.Features: Dual Super Aspherical lens element ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating Fine-textured metallic outer finish Snapshot focusing mechanism for pan-focus shooting
M.Zuiko DIGITAL 17mm f1.8 Lens
With product launch scheduled in the first half of 2013, the detailed product specifications are not determined yet.It will have the same snapshot focusing mechanism from the M.Zuiko DIGITAL ED 12mm f2.0 lens.It will also feature the MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism for fast, quiet autofocusing.
M.Zuiko DIGITAL ED 60mm f2.8 Macro Lens
This lens promises high resolution and contrast, as well as the ability to shoot close-up with 1x magnification.MSC mechanism for fast, quiet autofocusing.Dust and splash proof construction for secure shooting under poor conditions.Enhanced control with focus limit switch and indicator window. Available from early October 2012.

Check out Olympus promotions for its range of cameras. S$150 discount for its (super-)Tough TG-320 that was just launched this month (at S$348). You can get now get the waterproof (3m) and shockproof (1.5m) adventure camera for S$198.

Another of my favourite is the XZ-1. It’s been around for a while now but its F1.8 bright lens is still alluring, especially with a discount of S$250 from S$748 to S$498, plus gifts worth S$175.

For those moving beyond compact cameras, check out the retro PEN-series and OM-D E-M5 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.

Olympus also sells voice recorders and very fashionable accessories for its cameras.

New company byte: Nubox

With the opening of its 10th Apple Premium Reseller (APR) store in Sim Lim Square today, I have created a new company byte for Nubox.

Nubox is an arm of Newstead Technologies with Apple Premium Reseller (APR) and Apple Authorised Reseller (AAR) stores in Singapore.

Nubox upgrades Sim Lim store from AAR to APR status

Nubox today opened its 10th Apple Premium Reseller (APR) store in Sim Lim Square. Prior to this, it had an Apple Authorised Reseller store at the geek’s paradise.

The new Nubox APR store replaces the previous AAR store in Sim Lim Square.

To be awarded APR status, the store met stringent criteria from Apple: ability to offer impeccable service to customers, store location and size and availability of staff with Apple Certified Support Professional certification.

Where is the new store?

The 1,100 square feet store is located at #01-53/54 at Sim Lim Square, 1 Rochor Canal Road.

In addition to the complete range of Apple products, Nubox@Sim Lim Square will offer a quality range of third-party accessories and software as well professional services that include training and service support.

Newstead Technologies now has 11 Nubox stores across Singapore, comprising 10 APRs and one AAR in Funan Digital Life Mall. The Funan AAR will also be replaced with an APR next month.

Evelyn Chua, the Chief marketing Officer of Newstead, tells me that she plans to open a twelfth Nubox APR in Bedok Mall next year.

tech@vogue wants to dress up and style your mobile phone & tablet

The one-stop specialty boutique selling covers, accessories and connectivity solutions for your mobile device at nex Mall (#02-22/23) opens today.

This store is the first of a new chain of specialty stores and caters for smartphones and tablets across various operating systems including Android, Blackberry, iOS and Windows.

For audiophiles

The new stores will be managed by the same team that runs Nubox – an arm of Newstead Technologies.

Nubox currently includes 11 Apple stores in Singapore.

The cozy 898 square-feet tech@vogue in nex Mall (#02-22/23) will be open daily from 10:30am to 9:30pm.

For those who are unfamiliar with the area, nex Mall is a large shopping Mall located at 23 Serangoon Central, above the Serangoon MRT station.

The new tech@vogue Gallery categorises accessories under eight zones.

These are: Blast It, Dress It, Gotta Have It, Hear It, Juice It, Link It, Perk It and Style It. Check out what each of these zones specialises in at the end of the post.
