Canon today launched the EOS C300 Mark II and XC10 digital cameras and announced the development of XF-AVC, a new proprietary video format for the efficient recording of high-image-quality 4K, 2K and HD video footage. Prices TBA.

The Canon EOS C300 Mark II (EF mount) digital cinema camera (right) will be available from September 2015, while the XC10 4K video camcorder (left) will be available in mid-June.
Both digital cinema cameras are capable of capturing 4K video and support Canon’s new XF-AVC video format, which allows for data compression without sacrificing image quality.
The EOS C300 Mark II incorporates a Canon-developed Super 35 mm-equivalent approximately 8.85-megapixel CMOS image sensor and the Company’s latest imaging platform, Dual DIGIC DV 5, which promises exceptional processing power.

Voting ends 9 February 2015.

Since there are four voting platforms, with 3 votes for each platform, you have basically 12 votes based on your NRIC number.
There are four methods to vote.
You can vote on one or all of the following:

The above assumes you’re voting the same teams as my favourite three teams. 🙂
As you can guess, my favourite animation clips are “A Nation in Sync” by the E-lemonators (from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School, code C5) and “SAF Never Sleeps” by wasd (from Commonwealth Secondary School, code C10).
N.E.mation! 9 Partners
N.E.mation! is made possible with strong support from local partners from public and private sectors. In particular, National Library Board, Nanyang Polytechnic, Canon Singapore, WACOM Singapore and Toon Boom Animations Inc.
Do check out their clips and vote for them if you like their animation as well.
I’ve looked at all of the clips and spoke to some of the teams and feel these two teams are some of the most positive and enthusiastic kids I’ve come across in this latest installment of the N.E.mation! competition.

Voters stand to win attractive prizes.

We visited Team Elemonators in the third and final week of their 3-week production. The girls were going at completing their 1-minute animation by the end of the week. Erin reports.

It’s the third week and team Elemonators are speeding ahead hurriedly, close to the completion of their task!

The tools of the trade which occupy Esther’s workspace. To the right, near the NEWater bottle, is a Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet, and a Lenovo computer.
The clock is ticking away for CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School’s Elemonators as they finish up their animation, already three-quarters through.
All they had to do was to finish animating the last few scenes of their animated piece, and then render it.
When we dropped by, the team was focused on the rotoscoping segment of their animation journey.
What is rotoscoping?

This week, Commonwealth Secondary School’s wasd powers full-steam ahead in the production of their SAF-themed animation masterpiece. Erin Tan was on site to get to know the team members and to get the latest updates on their progress.

The team, wasd, with their mascot – Penguin the penguin.
Last Friday, we visited N.E.mation! team wasd, working studiously away in their cubicle in Nanyang Polytechnic.
They have been keeping very strictly to their schedule, as created for them by their mentor, and have made much progress in the making of their animation piece.

Niger and Zhi Qing talking enthusiastically about their progress of the previous week.
So far, the team has been able to finish most of the animation sequence, and were able to show us a fully-coloured, fully-animated sample of the final animation.

wasd is the team from Commonwealth Secondary School that never expected to make it to the Top 10. But made it they did and they’ve got an exciting animation story idea to vie for the top prize.

wasd is one of two teams from Commonwealth Secondary School that entered this year’s installment of the N.E.mation! competition, and the lucky one to make it to the Top 10. The fourth member, Niger Lim is not in this photo as he was not present during the visit.
The N.E.mation! competition is a yearly inter-school animation competition for students from secondary schools, junior colleges and centralised institutes to express their thoughts on Total Defence.

Lim Xun Yi from wasd. The team’s motto is “Expect the unexpected”.
This year’s competition is the ninth iteration since the inauguration of the series in 2007.
More than 11,500 students have participated in N.E.mation! thus far with participants comprising mostly secondary school students aged between 13 to 16 years old.
These students form teams of 3-4 members and have to go through multiple rounds of pitching and selection to beat hundreds of teams from other schools to make it into the Top 10.
wasd registered for N.E.mation! 9 some three months ago in August and it has been an incredible journey for them ever since.

Opera claims that its Video Boost is a first for mobile web browsers, offering faster loading time and money savings from data reduction (compression). Available now FREE from Apple App Store.

The new Opera Mini 9 for iOS comes with video boost feature that compresses video before delivering to your mobile phone, saving you from staring at the video-buffering wheel, as well as data savings.
iPhone and iPad users will see less of the dreaded video-buffering wheel, using the new video boost feature in the Opera Mini 9 web browser.
“This is the first time video optimization has been integrated into a web browser, so your browser can now take pride of place as your favorite video app. Video snags are a small problem, but an annoying one — a pothole on the internet highway. And Opera fixed it,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software.
People love watching video on their mobiles and tablets.
Unfortunately, this can eat up a data plan quickly, and stalled videos waste time and create frustration.
Opera Mini boasts that it can address this problem with video boost.
Video boost brings down buffering time for eager video viewers, by reducing the size of video data.
Using the Rocket Optimizer engine from Opera’s Skyfire division, video boost can also save users on their data bills.
Optimising videos is becoming increasingly important, as video viewing explodes on mobile phones.

Sony has launched a new, compact member of the XDCAM family to deliver benefits of 1.0-type sensor technology and XAVC in a handheld professional camcorder. 4K recording capability will be available in a future update.
Update (13 August, 2014):
Sony’s PXW-X70 will be available in Asia Pacific from the end of September 2014, with a retail price of S$3,000.

Light and compact entry-level professional camcorder.
The 4K recording capability should be available via a firmware update by the end of the year.
Pricing for the update has not been announced yet, but it’s in the hundreds – less than $1,000 for those who want it.
I had a hands-on with the entry level professional camcorder today.
It’s more compact than others and definitely lighter.
For videographers currently using a DSLR to shoot short videos and thinking of taking their craft a notch higher, this would be a shoe-in as it offers features that are not available in the top-end DSLRs.

The versatile new PXW-X70 camcorder features a sensor more than eight times the size of a conventional 1/3 single chip sensor, providing strong sensitivity and low light performance.
Sony has launched the 4K-ready PXW-X70, the first compact XDCAM professional camcorder ever produced.
