The Elemonators is one of three teams from CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls’ School that made it into the Top 10 Teams in this year’s installment of the N.E.mation! competition. The storyline for their animation is both heartwarming and inspiring.
The Elemonators registered for N.E.mation! 9 back in August and have not looked back since.
Comprising four sprightly young ladies in the second year of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School, the Elemonators were among a staggering 11 teams from the school that made it into the Top 100.

Team leader Melissa Anne Lim performed the mesh-up during the pitching stages with her guitar and sang in the final recording as well.
For those familiar with N.E.mation!, you may be aware that CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School is a powerhouse in the series of competitions, regularly boasting multiple teams that make it to the Top 10 and frequently represented in the eventual Top 3 winners.
While some schools field teams from their IT clubs/CCA, CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School opens the participation to all students in the school.
Which was how Melissa, Esther, Leanne and Sabrina came to form the Elemonators.

Sabrina Low loves partying, is motivated in her studies and is in the school’s Athletics team where she throws the Javelin. Did I miss anything out?
Prior experience or knowledge in animation is not required as training in story creation and development, animation techniques and presentation skills are provided for participating teams.
So this was an opportunity for the four girls to pick up some new skills.
In fact, the organisers hope that through the learning journey of the competition, the student participants would acquire knowledge about Total Defence and gain useful skills that they can apply to future endeavours.
Naturally, the lucrative prizes was a huge attraction – all four girls hope they would win the chance to go on a fully sponsored overseas trip worth more than S$20,000 for the team to visit a renowned animation studio in the US.

Esther Gan is also in Athletics where she does the high jump. She speaks eloquently and brought the team through the pitching stages of the competition.
I visited the Elemonators last Wednesday, and they were making good progress even though they were only in the first week of the 3-week production phase.
The Elemonators are using Toon Boom Studio to create a digital 2D animation based on the SG50 sub-theme – using a mesh up of four NDP (National Day Parade) songs from the past to celebrate SG50.
The team had already recorded the song which will be used as the audio track for their 1-minute animation.
I really enjoyed the song – nice tune and very well-sung.
What particularly impressed me was the storyline for the Elemonators.
It depicts four people performing acts of kindness for those around them – and in so doing inspired those that they’d helped to help others.
The result was that the spirit of kindness was passed on till it spreads across the whole of Singapore.
It was really heartwarming and inspiring indeed!
May I wish all of you the best of luck, Elemonators!
