Huawei boasts that it is the first mobile device manufacturer in the world to use an AI-powered smartphone to drive a car.
The aim of the “RoadReader” project is to push the boundaries of Huawei’s object recognition technology and put the learning capabilities, speed and performance of its AI-powered devices to the test.

The new Google Pixel 2 XL phablet in the tech4xmas 2017 gift list not just because it’s the latest, but mostly because it’s up there among the best, and whoever you’re giving this to as a X’mas present is going to be absolutely delighted. Available in Singapore from 15 November, 2017.
“The Google Pixel 2 XL has one of the best cameras I’ve tried among the flagship models of other smartphone makers and it does it with a single lens!”
Made by Google, the Pixel 2 XL ships with Google organic apps installed and most significantly, the phone will be the first in the market to receive Android updates from Google.
Having tried out the phablet, it truly has a superb camera.
The rear camera has a 12.2-megapixels sensor with f/1.8 lens while the front camera has 8 megapixels and a f/2.4 lens. Measuring 6.2 x 3 inches, the phablet comes in just black or black & white.
In fact, it has the highest DxOMark of 98 for its camera performance – higher than all other smartphone cameras today – and it does it with a single lens!
Photos turned out crisp and clear even in low light.
The aluminum unibody of the Google Pixel 2 XL makes it water/dust resistant IP67 standards. That means the Pixel 2 XL – like the Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 & 8 plus – can withstand immersion in water up to one meter for 30 minutes.
It offers the popular Portrait Mode, boasting background blur if you keep the background relatively far behind the subject you’re shooting.
New products include Spectre, EliteBook & ZBook notebooks; desktop workstations; commercial VR solutions including the HP Z VR Backpack; A3 printers; and the fun Sprocket 2-in-1 instant camera/printer.
Singapore doctors launch healthcare mobile platform to put patients’ needs at the center of an ecosystem that spans a range of services from cradle to grave – literally.
The MaNaDr platform is a holistic healthcare ecosystem that connects patients, families, and friends, to a trusted network of doctors and other healthcare providers.
“Besides using the mobile app to make healthcare affordable and more accessible, MaNaDr’s market differentiation is to provide a holistic suite of services at an affordable price, in the most convenient manner possible. Over time, we want to build a whole online community of doctors, patients, and other health and medical related services. Such a community will validate a doctor’s expertise, share patient experience, for example, and recommend the brand and type of medication and other lifestyle products that are effective. This ecosystem will be built on trust, which is a crucial success factor,” said Dr Siaw Tung Yeng, Founder & CEO, MaNaDr Mobile Health.
These providers include major pharmaceutical companies and key paramedical service providers such as Amgen, MundiPharma, OmniMed Healthcare (HomeCare), QuestLab etc.
Soft launched slightly more than a year ago, the concept has gained traction with the enrollment of 500 private clinics and 600 doctors (general practitioners, dentists & specialists) in Singapore and Australia serving a million patients through its MaNaDr app.
The growing patient database will enable big data analytics that empower doctors to track a patient’s condition to offer pre-emptive and pro-active healthcare.
MaNaDr mobile healthcare platform is owned by Mobile Health Pte Ltd (“Mobile Health”), a company set up by a group of Singapore doctors to harness the power of technology to make life-long, healthcare more affordable and accessible to all.
MaNaDr has secured over S$10 million seed funding and is in talks with several large funds and investors for Series funding.

I visited the exhibition booth of this Singapore company that developed Orca, a Business Operating System (BOS) that helps established F&B outlets run their operations more efficiently, and enables new micro businesses and small outlets to get off the ground running.
Orca Lite is a low-cost Android POS solution designed for single & multiple-outlet operations. It even comes with a complete inventory management system.
While visiting Franchising & Licensing Asia 2017 at Marina Bay Sands, I met up with Dr Koh Wee Lit, the owner of local company Red Hare Studios that developed the Orca BOS.
He is also the Chief Technology Officer of Singapore-based Habitat Blue, which has taken over the sales and development of Orca.
Dr Koh gave me a detailed brief on the challenges that an F&B establishment faces in the day-to-day operations of the business – and how important it was to have an integrated BOS that helps the restaurant manager and staff run operations more smoothly and efficiently.
