Renesas Synergy Platform is now available in South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and India.

Renesas Electronics Singapore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corporation, has announced that the Renesas Synergy™ Platform is now available in Asia Pacific markets.

Renesas Synergy is a complete and qualified platform with fully integrated software, a scalable family of microcontrollers (MCUs), and unified development tools to speed embedded system developers’ time to market as they innovate new products for IoT device applications.

“In the rapidly evolving IoT industry, those who cannot get to market first with products that have differentiated value are at an immediate disadvantage. By enabling developers to start at the software API level and enjoy a connected real-time system without the need to build and maintain baseline functionality, the Synergy Platform empowers our customers to drive innovation and differentiation in their own end-products to succeed in a very competitive Market,” said Ronnie Ho, Director of General Purpose Marketing, Renesas Electronics Singapore.

At the heart of the Synergy Platform is the Synergy Software Package (SSP), which is qualified, supported, warranted, and maintained by Renesas.

The SSP consists of a real-time operating system (RTOS), extensive middleware, communications stacks, and more – all accessible through a robust Application Programming Interface (API) to free customers from struggling with lower-level details.

Developers can start MCU software development immediately at the API level so that they can focus on differentiating their own product instead of doing repetitive non-differentiating work.

Additionally, system developers can lower their total cost of ownership, and remove many obstacles that prevent them from starting new designs.

System developers in South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and India can now access the full service of the Synergy Platform, using the Synergy Gallery website where simple click-through licensing is all that is needed for immediate download of professional software and development tools with no fees or royalties.

Infographic: Wearable technology and the Internet of Things

Monday, June 20th, 2016

Ericsson’s report on wearable technology & the IoT explores consumer views on it, how and when wearables might break beyond health and wellness scenarios and cover more diverse needs.

The wearables market is still in the early phases of expansion, and currently dominated by health, wellness and activity tracking devices – despite industry developments pointing to an increasing number of use cases.

The wearables market is still in the early phases of expansion, and currently dominated by health, wellness and activity tracking devices – despite industry developments pointing to an increasing number of use cases.

Key findings from Ericsson’s “Wearable Technology and the Internet of Things” report

  • Wearables become the most personal devices.
    • Two in five users of wearables say they feel naked when not wearing their device, with one in five even sleeping with it on.
    • Despite this, a quarter of those who have bought wearables in the past three months say their expectations have not been met.

“Although consumers show greatest interest in devices related to safety, we also see an openness to wearable technology further away from today’s generation. In five years’ time, walking around with an ingestible sensor, which tracks your body temperature and adjusts the thermostat setting automatically once you arrive home, may be a reality,” says Sing Sethi, Ericsson’s ConsumerLab spokesperson for the report.

  • Consumers predict the wearables inflection point to be beyond 2020.
    • 6 out of 10 smartphone users are confident that wearables will have uses beyond health and wellness.
    • Consumers predict that most wearables ideas will only become mainstream beyond 2020. However, current users of wearables believe the development will be much faster.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) future shaped by wearables.
    • 74 percent believe multiple wearables and sensors will help them interact with other devices and physical things around them, whilst 1 in 3 smartphone users believes they will wear at least 5 wearables beyond 2020.
    • Thus, a setback in wearables adoption might delay the overall adoption of the IoT among consumers.

AirTies partners Singtel to strengthen home Wi-Fi with Mesh

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

AirTies Wireless Networks, a leading supplier of advanced wireless products, has partnered Singtel to provide the telco’s fibre broadband subscribers with Singtel WiFi Mesh. Prices below.

Update (6 April, 2017):

Linksys has launched in Singapore their Velop whole-home Wi-Fi mesh system based on Tri-Band modular Wi-Fi routers. One to three packs available.

The AirTies 4920 1600 Mbps 802.11ac Video Grade Wireless Booster is available in Singapore exclusively to Singtel Fibre Broadband subscribers.

Singtel WiFi Mesh is a broadband add-on that helps users mitigate Wi-Fi dead zones within their home, improving customers’ surfing experience.

“APAC registered the largest absolute growth in internet user numbers with an impressive 12% year-on-year growth, the global operators are seeking for more stable and reliable broadband solutions to satisfy their customers, and AirTies meet the market needs. In Singapore, we are pleased to be working exclusively with Singtel, the largest broadband provider in the country,” said Philippe Alcaras, CEO, AirTies.

Singtel WiFi Mesh with Client Steering technology actively switches devices seamlessly between APs (access points) dynamically, to improve Wi-Fi performance from any corner of your home.

Unlike Wi-Fi range extenders or boosters, the smart WiFi Mesh technology enables the devices to “talk” to one another to select the best wireless transmission path for your device from any corner of your home.

With band steering capabilities, it switches your device to the optimum band (2.4GHz or 5GHz) whenever you move from one room to another, to ensure seamless wireless surfing.

WiFi Mesh can be easily connected to a Singtel-issued router (Aztech 7000, 7002, 7003 and 7009) or your own router to extend Wi-Fi coverage in your home.

Depending on your home layout and size, you can choose the number of WiFi Mesh devices you need at home.

RedMart chooses Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016

Oracle ERP Cloud streamlines RedMart’s business processes, reduces IT costs, and improves business agility.

“Large, mid-sized, and start-up companies are turning to Oracle for cloud-based solutions to better manage their resources to improve the efficiency of their operations. We are happy that Redmart has chosen Oracle ERP Cloud. It clearly outlines Redmart’s vision to modernize their finance and procurement processes to propel the company to the next level of growth,” said Neeraj Shaabi, Regional Managing Director for ASEAN and Sage, Oracle.

RedMart, one of Singapore’s largest online supermarkets, has chosen Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Cloud to fuel the company’s growth.

“We are glad to have achieved the success we have today, but we are still growing and constantly exploring how to further improve our internal operations. Being a startup, business priorities tend to change quickly to respond to the competitive needs of the market. Our systems need to be flexible to match up with our priorities. Technology is at the heart of our business, and we need to constantly strengthen it in order to grow, and we’re glad that Oracle is along that journey with us,” said Jim Boland, Head of Finance, RedMart.

Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud will serve as a key business platform for RedMart’s growth.

RedMart is a successful start-up in Singapore that serves as an e-commerce platform which allows customers to buy groceries and household products, including fresh and frozen food, personal care, health and wellness, baby, and beverage, and pet products online.

Since its launch in 2011, RedMart has grown 10-20% month-over-month and more than doubled each year.

Previously, the legacy ERP system could not scale to the high transaction volume in line with the company’s growth, did not have the capability to produce useful reports, and was not flexible enough for the company’s fast changing business priorities.

RedMart needed to improve system performance and flexibility to enable further expansion of the business.

Norton Cybersecurity Insights Report reveals children are the weakest link in family cybersecurity.

Findings from the Norton Cybersecurity Insights Report 2015 highlighted parental concerns about their children in the online world.

Cyberbullying, online predators and privacy are some of the biggest issues parents in Singapore are grappling with as bullying moves from the playground to the online world.

Parents are concerned about their children being lured into meeting a stranger in the outside world (52 percent) and more parents are worried that their children will be bullied online (46 percent) than if their children take on the role as the online bully (38 percent).
