Some new cameras and lenses from Olympus that we can look forward to in the coming months. Most of the prices and availability are yet to be announced.

The flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II with battery grip, being flanked by three PEN E-PL8 compact mirrorless cameras.
The list of new cameras and lenses include the following.

Olympus announced the development of the new flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II, with a 121-point all cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF, and an 18 fps high-speed sequential shooting in AF/AE tracking.

The new FD-1 diffuser accessory for the Stylus TG-4 improves flash illumination for better macro pictures. Price & availability TBA. Firmware update v2.0 (available now) enables flash activation and enhanced control in the microscope shooting mode.

Olympus has announced the launch of the FD-1 Flash Diffuser accessory for the Stylus Tough TG-4 compact camera.

The FD-1 creates attractive illumination for the macro photography of nature subjects and small objects, by improving the light quality of the camera’s built-in flash.
Complementing the launch of this new accessory is a new firmware for the TG-4, version 2.0.
The latest firmware provides additional flash functionality for macro photography.
The application of direct, on-camera flash illumination brings many benefits to macro photography with the TG-4, making close-up imaging possible in poor ambient lighting conditions.
The aesthetics of direct flash illumination expands the range of creative expression available to the macro photographer.
Sharper, clearer close-up shots can be also captured with a motion freezing burst of flash illumination that helps to overcome camera-shake.

Happy New Year to all the people from cultures that celebrate this traditional festival! And to all Chinese around the world, Happy Chinese New Year!
It’s Chinese New Year today and the beginning of the Monkey year in the Chinese Zodiac. Happy Chinese New Year!
It’s the first day of the Lunar New Year. This year, it’s the year of the Monkey, according to the Chinese zodiac.
We took the photo when our family visited Jigokudani in Nagano back in 2008 to see the unique Snow Monkeys that indulge in the natural hotsprings there amidst the Winter snow.

Canon has launched three new cameras: the mirrorless EOS M10 (S$TBD) and two PowerShot compact cameras, the G5 X (S$999) and G9 X (S$619).

The EOS M10 will be available in Singapore from end of November at Canon authorized dealers at the following recommended prices.

Here are some settings that are optimal for shooting fireworks.
Editor’s note
Many cameras, including compact ones have a dedicated Scene mode for shooting fireworks where many of the camera settings highlighted below are automatically set to appropriate levels generally suitable for fireworks.
However, because the settings are pre-canned and generally shooting most fireworks, you can’t change the settings to custom-fit the exact lighting situations or to realise your specific artistic expression.
If you want the best shots, try out the settings suggested below by the Canon Imaging Academy.

The National Day Parade usually sees a spectacular display of fireworks at the end of the display. Canon Imaging Academy shares three tips to capturing great photos of fireworks.

Both the compact RX100 IV (S$1,399 from 16 July) and high-zoom RX10 II (S$1,899 from 30 July) cameras boast the world’s first staked 1.0 Type CMOS sensor with a DRAM memory chip, 40x super slow motion capture (up to 960fps), 4K video recording and high-speed anti-distortion shutter (up to 1/32000s).
Pre-order the RX100 IV from 3 July (see below).

The two new models in the Sony Cyber-shot RX series feature the world’s first 1.0 type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with advanced signal processing and an attached DRAM memory chip.
The high speed signal processing and DRAM memory chip work together to enable more than five times the readout rate of image data and are responsible for a variety of features that have previously only been available in selected professional-level video cameras.

Breathtaking demo of the prowess of the new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV (S$1,399). Taken with burst mode, these two shots show the water-filled balloon just before and just after it was burst. You can still see the “shape” of the water just after the rubber of the balloon burst, as well as the fine water spray emanating from the “water ball”.
These capabilities include 40x super slow motion video capture at up to 960fps, an ultra-fast Anti-Distortion Shutter with a maximum speed of 1/32000 second, high-resolution 4K movie shooting and more.

The Nikon D7200 DSLR and COOLPIX P900 compact zoom camera will be available in Singapore by end March, 2015. Prices TBA. The ViewNX-i will be available for free download beginning 17 March.

The Nikon D7200 will be available by end March 2015 with the AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, or AF-S DX 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, or with the body-only configuration.
Nikon has announced two new cameras and new image-browsing software.
D7200 DSLR
The DX-format D7200 DSLR offers enthusiasts features for low-light photography, social connectivity and Full HD videos.

Nikon D7200
The 24.2-megapixel DSLR comes with EXPEED 4 image-processing engine and CMOS sensor.
The 51-point autofocus (AF) sensor module is also utilised by the Nikon D750, and has an AF detection range down to -3EV for low-light photography.
Standard ISO ranges from 100 to 25600, extendable to ISO 102400.
There is built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and it is the first Nikon DSLR to feature Near Field Communication (NFC)-support (for NFC-compatible Android smartphones and tablets with Android 4.0 or later).

Canon has launched a whopping 18 imaging products for their 2015 consumer line-up in Singapore, in conjunction to their global launch.
Highlights include the new EOS 5DS & 5DSR, EOS 750D & 760D, EOS M3 cameras; and the new MAXIFY line of SOHO printers.
