To all mothers out there … Happy Mother’s Day!

Flowers for all mothers on Mother’s Day. These beautiful flowers adorn a florist’s shop in Kumamoto, Japan. Taken with Nikon D800.
And to all mothers-to-be or newly-minted mothers, here’s a book to find out what not to expect when you are expecting.

Muddlehood (S$25.90). Available online, at Popular, Books Actually, Thomson Medical.
“Muddlehood” is a collection of essays by parents on life in the first year of parenting.
It was written by my wife and a few of her friends to share the trials and tribulations of motherhood, or how they “muddled” through it all.
The authors noted that when they were going through their first pregnancies and looking for advice and things to pay attention to, it was difficult to come by a book that was truly honest about the difficulties and psychological rigours the expecting mother was to encounter.
So having gone through it, they decided to pen down their own experiences as honestly as possible – to share what “expecting mothers never expected”.
“On hindsight, we felt that the accounts were so brutally honest that the book might actually discourage women who had not conceived yet to put off having children,” mused Koh Keat Kian, co-author and co-editor of Muddlehood.
However, despite the rigours of motherhood, the consensus among all the authors was that – at the end of the day – motherhood is the most rewarding thing a woman could experience, and it was worth every bit of angst or trouble they had to go through to have the baby.
This is an excellent book for the expecting mom to find what they never tell you to expect.
It’ll make a handy book to buy yourself if you’re contemplating having a baby, and an excellent present to give an expecting or newly-minted mum.

Scandinavia’s largest shoe maker ECCO celebrated its 50th anniversary by launching a new MIND line of shoes and an exhibition of its half-century of shoemaking.

http://tech4tea.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php?post=8229&action=edit&message=1 The ECCO MIND line of shoes is specially designed to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.
The Danish premium comfort footwear brand also set a new record for the most number of shoes shined in Singapore as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations in Singapore.

ECCO was founded in 1963 by Danish shoemaker Karl Toosbuy 50 years ago. Originally called Venus, the brand was changed to Ecco’let before adopting the present-day name of ECCO.
What I like about ECCO is the company’s willingness to constantly innovate in its pursuit of better ways of making shoes.

Good, healthy design does not have to be boring … my favourite design is SHARK – snazzy isn’t it!

After a scrumptious meal at CoCo Ichibanya, we made another unplanned stop at the Tosu Premium Outlets before continuing towards our first night in Kyushu – Beppu.
* All photos in this post were taken with a Nikon D800 DSLR and AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens.

Window dressing for Dog Dept, one of the shops at Tosu Premium Outlets.
The town of Tosu lies at the crossroads of two major expressways of Kyushu.

Some familiar brands at the Tosu Premium Outlets.
One runs north-south from Fukuoka to Kumamoto and beyond, while the other runs east-west from Oita to Nagasaki.
So it’s an ideal location for Premium Outlets.
People commuting long distance from one part of Kyushu to another tend to go through Tosu and it’s so convenient to just make a quick stopover.
We’d already planned our final hotel stay in Kyushu to be in Tosu before flying out of Japan.
But since it was on our way to Beppu, we decided to take a quick preview of what the outlets had to offer.
As an outlet shopping mall, the Tosu Premium Outlets seemed pretty run-of-the-mill, with the usual brands that we see at other similar malls.

Another unplanned stop to take a preview of the Tosu Premium Outlets.
But we’ll be taking a closer look at the end of this trip so maybe we’ll discover something special.

Miyuki – a local restaurant in Beppu whose owner doubled up as enthusiastic tour guide. This photo of its exterior was shot at ISO 6400 with little noise.
After Tosu, we continued our drive towards Beppu, the seaside town known for its hot springs.

Trying out the local fare – especially the Dango Jiru soup, which is made with flattened wheat flour dumplings.
Here we had a little bit of difficulty locating our hotel among the tiny and complicated streets in the area.

Checking out the shops and wares of You Me shopping centre in Beppu. Everybody recommends it – for its free parking in town, from which to visit other sights.

Contemplating whether to make a stop at Uniqlo. This shot was deliberately over-exposed to get a high-key effect that puts the focus on the boy in the car and the brand.
So we asked a local who promptly got onto his motorbike to show us the way to the family-run establishment called Happy Neko – where we had booked a studio apartment complete with kitchen and launderette facilities.

Bukkake is served in the food court – here it’s a legitimate and traditional Japanese dish, not a genre.
The Czech proprietor, Bibo, sat down with us to tell us about the places to visit, food to eat, and things to do during our 2-day stay at Beppu. He spoke perfect English.
So we headed out for dinner at a local restaurant, whose owner plied us with more brochures, travel magazines and recommendations on what to do during our stay.
The owner was a one-man-show: owner, chef, steward. He had visited Singapore before and immediately associated the Merlion with our island nation.
After dinner, we popped into the huge shopping mall in town – YouMe, before visiting the Hyotan onsen spa near where we stayed – an apt and restful end to a long day of travel.
Tomorrow, we shall visit the Beppu Hells – eight natural hot springs that tourists all over Japan come to visit.

Clarity AV has launched the RS20i, Datasat’s newest entry into Singapore’s luxury home cinema market, offering to bridge the gap with the professional cinema sphere. Available from today for S$32,250.

Clarity has just launched the Datasat RS20i Digital Audio Processor in Singapore.
The RS20i is engineered according to the same architecture as Datasat’s AP20 professional processor, the ‘brains’ that processed audio content for James Bond’s Skyfall, Men in Black 3, Jurassic Park and more than 14,000 other Hollywood blockbusters.
Datasat AP20
The AP20 is an industry staple and a favorite of Hollywood’s creative minds.
It boasts 16 channels of digital and analog inputs and outputs, and is one of the few audio processors capable of 3D audio today.
Unlike currently available surround sound boxes and premium processors, the RS20i conforms to the full 16-channel Digital Cinema Package (the collection of files that complete a digital movie) specification mandated by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).
With 16 channels of digital audio available, the RS20i supports up to 85 digital and analog inputs as well as 34 audio outputs.

The rear of the Dataset RS20i. Note the many digital/analog input/output sockets and three expansion slots.
This amount of outputs allows the audio processor to accommodate all surround sound formats currently available – including true 3D sound.
Clarity AV
Clarity is the sole distributor of the RS20i in Singapore and Malaysia.
It is a subsidiary of Clarity Group.
The company not only provides and installs sophisticated, high end entertainment systems for new homeowners but also works with owners of existing home theatres to enhance both audio and video quality.
In addition, three expansion slots allow for the easy addition of extra channels in the future.
The RS20i also allows audiophiles to fine tune audio exactly how they want and save the setting.
Once configured, it is easy to manage the setting with all the power of the RS20i available at the users’ fingertips through their smartphone, tablet or laptop.
The RS20i is the only home cinema solution to feature the market-leading Dirac Live room optimization technology.

Audio output is optimized from each speaker in a sound system so that it is perfectly balanced for the acoustic behavior of the listening environment where the speaker is situated, creating the most natural and immersive listening experience.
With sleek, elegant looks designed by Neal Feay Company, an award-winning designer of consumer electronics, the Datasat RS20i also makes an attractive component of any luxury home entertainment system.

What does the online fashion/lifestyle retailer and the enterprise secure smartphone of choice have in common?

BlackBerry and ZALORA join hands to present a “Fashionably Bold” event.
A strong sense of style and the gut to make Bold fashion statements with their products, which is why both enjoy a growing following among the young and trendy in the region. And BBM is the buzzword that keeps them connected.

(L-R) Valerie Lim, mentor to the models with stylist bloggers Irene of Moonberry, Vanessa of Wardrobe Trends Fashion, Sophie Willocq.
BlackBerry and ZALORA co-hosted a stylish event in Singapore to put forth a fashion show showcasing a unique set of looks developed by leading online fashion bloggers and inspired by BlackBerry’s Bold line of smartphones.
Promotion for fans
To celebrate the partnership between BlackBerry and ZALORA, anyone purchasing any BlackBerry smartphone through the various authorized partners, will receive a 15% discount from ZALORA Singapore, the island’s one-stop online shopping destination across fashion, beauty and home & décor.

Charles Dufourcq – Country Director for RIM, Singapore – looking fashionably bold.
“The individual styles inspired by the BlackBerry Bold portfolio truly showcase the diversity of the many collections on ZALORA,” said Terence Pang, Head of Marketing for ZALORA Singapore.
A vibrant and thriving night out

Local standup comedian, Kumar, being fashionably bold.
I popped in at the event (at 72-13 Mohammed Sultan Road) in the evening and the turnout was fantastic, thronging with both BlackBerry and ZALORA fans.
Everybody had a great laugh with local stand-up comedian Kumar’s act.
The fashion show was refreshing because the eight female and male models were not pros but lucky winners who had been chosen from an online contest earlier, based on the best poses that they had sent in.
They received their very own photo-shoot, makeover and runway tips from Miss Singapore Universe 2011, Ms Valerie Lim, who also choreographed the Fashionably Bold show.
Totally Fashionably Bold!
“Fashionably Bold showcases the popularity of the BlackBerry Bold portfolio in Singapore, while celebrating the lifestyle statement that both our black and white smartphones make. It is a celebration of functionality coupled with a unique sense of style that BlackBerry smartphones have,” said Charles Dufourcq, Country Director for RIM, Singapore.
