POTD: Masjid Sultan Mosque in Singapore’s Kampong Glam

Photo of the Day: Masjid Sultan is the Malay name for Sultan Mosque, which is located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road in the Kampong Glam district of Singapore.

The mosque – first built in 1826 – is one of Singapore’s most important mosques.

The current building dates from 1928, when the original mosque was rebuilt.

SingTel mio TV launches mio TV GO app

The new mio TV GO is mio TV’s companion app. It is free and is now available for download (for both Apple and Android devices).

mio TV GO includes features such as the ‘LIVE” streaming of selected mio TV channels, locally-produced shows to enhance the BPL-viewing experience, remote control function, and remote recording feature.

‘LIVE’ screening of ten channels including mio Stadium

The app will allow BPL subscribers on the mio TV platform to enjoy ‘LIVE’ streaming of three mio Stadium channels (Channel 102 -104), three mio Sports channels (Channel 111 – 113) and four Asian channels.

With mio Stadium, customers can catch ‘LIVE’ Barclays Premier League (BPL) matches on their mobile phones and tablets and enjoy a groundbreaking locally-produced studio show.

Catch ‘LIVE’ matches of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga and other football matches available on mio Sports.

Fans of Asian content can also watch Jia Le Channel, ETTV Asia, ETTV Yoyo and Jiangsu Satellite Channel on mio TV GO.

Content subscription fee of $5 per month will be waived till May 2014.

Samsung launches Nexus 10 Android 4.2 tablet in Singapore

The new 10-inch tablet boasts the world’s highest resolution tablet display.

The Nexus 10 will be available in 32GB WiFi version in charcoal gray from 3 August 2013 at $668.

Users can use the front-facing camera for video chats with up to nine friends at once with Google+ Hangouts.

If you’re looking for a new pair of sandals, you’ll be spoilt for choice at the Ramadan Night Bazaar.

Most of the stalls at the night bazaar were open to photographers, especially if you ask the stall holders politely before snapping away.

Some even offered to pose with their wares.

Seagate builds new S$100m Design and R&D Centre in Singapore

In a groundbreaking ceremony today, Seagate announced that the new facility will be located at one-north and is expected to completed in early 2015.

“The Shugart’ is Seagate’s S$100m investment in Singapore, and will be completed in early 2015.

The new Design and R&D Centre will be named “The Shugart” – after Seagate’s founder, Alan Shugart – and provide world-class research and development (R&D) facilities for the mobile storage R&D team in Singapore..

“The Singapore R&D team plays a key role within Seagate’s global R&D efforts. With growing consumer demand for tablets and notebooks, the need to innovate within the mobile storage solutions industry is critical,” said Mark Re, Chief Technology Officer & Senior Vice President, Research & Development, Seagate Technology.

The facility will be able to house up to 900 employees, and have have a gross floor area of approximately 40,880 square metres.

The Shugart will comprise a nine-floor tower connected to a six-floor tower with three basement levels.

It will focus on the development of 2.5-inch small form-factor products for notebooks, ultra-books, convertibles and tablets.

The new facility will allow all R&D personnel to be housed together, thus fostering greater collaboration and innovation.

One of the distinctive signs that Hari Raya is approaching is the lights that you see decorating homes – both inside and outside – as the festival approaches.

POTD: Arabic calligraphy to decorate the home

Arabic calligraphy is the artistic expression of handwriting and the Arabic script, and is often framed up and used to display excerpts of the Qur’an in a Muslim household.

POTD: Henna to beautify your hands and skin

Henna is a dye made from the henna tree, which can be used for applying intricately-patterned body skin tattoo that is temporary.

Many cultures use henna to decorate their body and arms, as well as dye their hair and nails.

Nearer home, they are used by Indians and Malays.

One of the things I love about Hari Raya is eating the delicious cookies that Muslim friends and colleagues share when the festival approaches. They are tasty and make delectable snacks suitable for all occasions.

SingTel mio TV unveils BPL stand-alone subscription @ $59.90
