Microsoft Windows 11 will be available on new PCs and through a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs beginning this holiday.

Microsoft says the new Windows 11 is optimised for working, learning, and playing and delivering great experiences for all – from intuitive design features that make multitasking a breeze to an all-new Microsoft Store that provides users with easy access to apps, games, and movies.
Windows 11 features a fresh, clean interface and intuitive features to empower users to get things done and inspire their creativity.
Users can easily find what they need by clicking the Start button which is located at the center of the screen.
“The past 18 months brought an incredible shift in how we used our PCs, from something practical and functional to something personal and emotional. This is what inspired us as we were building the next generation of Windows, a platform that over a billion people rely on. With Windows 11, we wanted to build a familiar place where everyone can create, learn, play, and most importantly connect in improved ways,” said Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer, Microsoft.
Start utilises the power of the cloud and Microsoft 365 to show users recent files that were previously viewed across different platforms or devices, so users can pick up where they left off – even documents they were working on their Android or iOS devices.
Multi-tasking is made easier with new Windows 11 features like Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and Desktops that help users organise their windows and optimise their screen real estate.
Users can now enjoy the flexibility of multiple windows and work on multiple apps simultaneously by snapping the apps side by side on their screens.
With Desktops, users can customise spaces for each aspect of their lives, such as work, gaming, or school, and easily switch between them.
Users also get faster access to information they care about with Widgets, which provides a curated news feed powered by AI and best-in-class browser performance from Microsoft Edge.

The Google Translate app has just launched Transcribe – a new feature that enables you to translate and transcribe audio in real time.

The redesigned home screen of Google Translate (left) and options to change the settings for a comfortable read (right).
Transcribe began its roll-out early this morning, and a full roll-out will be happening within the next few days.

Real time transcription in action in Google Translate.
The new feature will support any combination between the following eight languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai.
Previously, Translate wasn’t well suited to translate lectures over video conferencing or in a classroom, longer discussions, or stories from grandparents who speak another language.
To address this gap, Google is introducing this new feature that transcribes audio into translated text.
While the feature is only available on Android devices currently, Google is planning to launch it on iOS in the future.
Here’s how Transcribe in the Google Translate app works:

You can now ask Google Assistant to read aloud the text on a webpage – basically turning any webpage into a podcast! The new functionality is now available on all Android phones.

Check out the video about the new Read It feature for Google Assistant in Android phones.
Nowadays we consume so much content on our tiny smartphone screen – news, articles, stories etc.
For older folks with failing eyesight, or anybody with visual or reading difficulties, Google Assistant can now read web articles on your smartphone browsers out loud.
How to have a page read aloud
When a web article is displayed on the browser in your Android phone, you can say, “Hey Google, read it” or “Hey Google, read this page” – Google Assistant will immediately read aloud the content of the web page, using a voice of your choice.
To help you follow along, your browser will automatically scroll the page and highlight words as they’re read aloud.
You can also alter the reading speed, jump forward or backwards by 30sec and 10sec respectively or skip to any part of the web page.
I’ve always wished that I could consume web content while I’m driving.
At the moment, you can only do that if it’s a podcast, or unless you just listen to the audio of a video, because you got to keep your eyes on the road while driving.
So I listen to the news or radio, or my own music while I drive.
With the ability of Google Assistant to read aloud web pages, I don’t have to postpone perusing a web article until when I can read it myself.
I can listen to it when I’m driving, or taking a bus or train (using earphones) so that I don’t have to strain my eyes reading on a moving vehicle.
