This is in line with Singapore’s increasingly broad-based approach towards the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

A deep interest in STEM motivates thinking, curiosity and innovation, principles that will help the adults of tomorrow navigate and adapt to a rapidly changing world.

With an aim to cultivate and groom the next generation of STEM practitioners in Singapore, SSF 2014 aims to bring STEM subjects to life through interesting and fun play, observation and hands-on experiences.

Differentiating itself from previous editions, this year’s SSF will take on a fresh theme – You Can be a Rock Star with Science.

Intel today launched the newest offering in its Next Unit of Computing (NUC) product line – the first to be powered by an Intel Atom E3815 processor (based on the company’s “Bay Trail” architecture).

The new NUC, model DE3815TYKH, is designed with thin client applications in mind.

It features a fan-less design, on board eMMC memory, and the space savings of a 4”x4” motherboard.

With the ability to directly power a LCD monitor through an onboard eDP connector, the new NUC is a great solution for kiosks, point-of-sale and digital signage.

It also is expected to be relevant to the space-constraints of modern Asia’s urban homes.

The new product is available in distribution starting today.

Admission to The Float @ Marina Bay is free for the event which happens from 5-10pm today.

This year, Spider-Man has been appointed as the first superhero ambassador for Earth Hour.

This is to encourage everybody – that’s you and me – to be superheroes in our own way to use our power to drive positive change for the environment.

How do you “Use Your Power” to drive positive change for the environment?

Here are four simple acts you can do on a daily basis:

  1. Turn air-conditioning up by one degree
  2. Switch to LED lighting
  3. Use fewer plastic bags
  4. Take shorter showers

Millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support Earth Hour, the largest environmental event in history spearheaded by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature).

First look: Samsung GALAXY S5 in Singapore

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

Samsung Singapore brought in the GALAXY S5, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit for a media preview today.

Many of the existing features have been enhanced eg. the 16MP camera which now features faster autofocus (0.3 sec) with the hybrid phase detection cum contrast detection autofocus mechanism, realtime-HDR and simulated Lytro-like post-shot selection of focal point.

First impressions:

At the end of the hour-and-a-half session, the impression was that the GALAXY S5 was loaded with features.

There is a feature to help you with anything you may need to do in your daily life.

You may only need 20 percent of the features available, but no matter what is it you need, chances are, there’s a feature for it.

The autofocus did feel really fast when I switched the focus from near to far and back and from light to dark etc.

The perforated design for the finish of the rear panel is a fresh change from the smooth surface of the S4.

I’ve already heard favourable comments from a number who have seen the design physically or on the Web.

The S5 is also dust and water resistant, while the fingerprint scanner worked smoothly to unlock the phone, although you can use that to make online payments using PayPal in Singapore.

There’s also the ultra power saving mode that extends the life of the battery to as much as 24 hours when its life has dropped to 10 percent.
