Together with the launch of the new touch-screen EOS 650D DSLR, Canon is launching two new EF lenses. (Pricing & Availability to be announced later).

Canon EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens
The Canon EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM features reduced chromatic aberration with the inclusion of one UD lens element and one PMo aspherical lens element.
Pricing and availability of these two lenses will be announced at a later date. The info will be updated in this box as and when available.
Update (13 June): The EF40mm f/2.8 STM will be available from tomorrow at S$299.
When used with the Movie Servo AF of the Canon EOS 650D, it also offers smooth, speedy and quiet focusing while recording.
This is achieved with the development of a new six-group zoom system, and the adoption of a stepping motor and focus mechanism.
Along with it, the Dynamic IS system features an expanded correction range, with image stabilization equivalent to 4 stops of light, which proves very useful when shooting subjects on the move.

Canon EF40mm f/2.8 STM lens
The EF40mm f/2.8 STM comes in an ultra-compact and lightweight design, with a diameter of 68.2mm, a thickness of 22.8mm and weighing 130g, making it the slimmest and lightest EF lens produced.
A fast f/2.8 aperture, 7-blade circular aperture and aspherical lens elements enable the lens to achieve a high level of image quality from centre to corner.

Canon has unveiled the EOS 650D, its entry-level DSLR that will replace the current EOS 600D. The 18-megapixel shooter will be available at the end of June (prices within).

Canon EOS 650D has 18 megapixels and a touch screen monitor.
Canon boasts that the EOS 650D is the world’s first DSLR with a touch screen monitor.
The EOS 650D features a continuous AF (autofocus) Servo and the powerful DICIG 5 imaging processor.

Other enhancements include a wider ISO range from ISO 100 to 12,800 (expandable to 25,600), Multi Shot Noise Control, Handheld Night Scene, HDR Backlight Control, 9 cross-type AF points within 31 AF zones, and a Hybrid CMOS AF System.
Many of the MIL (mirrorless interchangeable lens) cameras on the market already feature touch screen monitors, but obviously Canon does not consider them as DSLRs (indeed they do NOT have mirrors).
Canon is the only major camera maker that has not launched any MIL camera yet.
I tried out the camera during the launch event at Klapsons The Boutique Hotel in Singapore.
It’s a nifty shooter for the amateur photographer looking to take his/her photography to the next level.
The EOS 650D can shoot continuously at 5 frames per second.
The continuous AF Servo was smooth and noiseless – a boon for those who zoom in and out while shooting video and don’t want the noise to be recorded.
“We are confident that the EOS 650D will be a compelling choice for amateurs looking to bring their photography to the next level,” said Andrew Koh, Senior Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Products Group, Canon Singapore.
What’s more, the autofocus continues working when zooming in and out, rather than stay on the original focus distance at the commencement of video recording.
Along with the EOS 650D, Canon also introduced two new lenses, the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and the EF40mm f/2.8mm STM, featuring a stepping motor for fast and quiet autofocusing.
Pricing & availability for these two lenses will be announced later.

Panasonic has launched a new Micro Four Thirds mirrorless interchangeable lens (MIL) camera.
It is available now at S$1,099 for either the single-lens or twin-lens kits (details within).

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF5 comes in five colours: Black, White, Red, Brown, and Gold (limited edition).
The LUMIX DMC-GF5 is the latest member of the LUMIX G Micro System.

The GF5 remains compact despite having a built-in pop-up flash.
As an MIL camera, it marries the image quality and lens-changing flexibility of DSLRs with the compactness of point-and-shoot cameras.
The DMC-GF5 includes a built-in flash, 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity Live MOS sensor and an improved Venus Engine for image processing.
Maximum ISO settings reach a maximum of 12,800.
The DMC-GF5 has a 920,000 dots, 3-inch touch display, which allows the user to choose where to focus and to release the shutter upon focus.

Compact enough to fit in the trousers pocket.
Touch zoom is also available simply by mounting the LUMIX G X Power Zoom Lens (H-PS14042 lens or H-PS45175).
The DMC-GF5 uses Contrast Auto-Focus (AF) to capture and lock on to fast-moving subjects within 0.9 seconds.
There are 23 scene modes with pre-canned settings for various photographic situations.
A Creative Control mode increases filter options to 14 from 6 in the DMC-GF3.

The GF5 has a 920k dots, 3-inch touch display.
The new filters are: Soft Focus, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, One Point Color, Cross Process, Low Key, Toy Effect and Star Filter.
The existing six filters are the conventional Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, and Miniature Effect filters.
A dedicated video record button records 1920 x 1080 Full HD video with stereo sound, in either AVCHD or MP4 format.
The DMC-GF5’s Intelligent Auto (iA) mode includes AF Tracking, Face Recognition, Intelligent D-range Control, Scene Selector and ISO Control.

Nice muscular design in the GF5.
iA Plus mode adjusts exposure compensation and white balance for superior image output.
A newly added angle detection sensor makes it possible to tell whether the photo was taken horizontally or vertically, whatever lens is used.
The
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF5 is available now and is priced at S$1,099 for either of two kits:
- GF5X: Body with 14-42mm LUMIX G X lens
- GF5W: Body with 14mm F2.5 pancake lens, and 14-42mm standard kit lens
Note: the Micro Four Thirds lens has a crop factor of 2, so a 14-42mm lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 28-84mm.

The Sony Walkman Z1050 Mobile Entertainment Player has a 16GB capacity and will be available for S$429 from this month.

Sony Walkman NWZ-Z1050 Music Player, 16 GB, Black, S$429.
The Walkman Z1050 is the Android equivalent of the iPod Touch, but with a bigger anti-reflective 4.3” multi-touch LCD screen. It is powered by a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor.
With the form factor of a smartphone, this Walkman allows you to enjoy great music, watch videos, play games, use Android apps and surf the Web using WiFi.
I was at the launch of the new Walkman in Singapore, and got to play with the device and listen to the music quality. It did not disappoint. Audio was crisp and clear despite the loud background music inside the Helipad, and MP3 music sounded almost as good as CD-quality tracks.
There’s no 3G connection so you can only make calls through VOIP when there’s a WiFi connection. There’s no camera but you can upload, edit, view and share photos on the gadget.
From the makers of the original Walkman

Available in May 2012
But true to its tradition, it’s a music player made for music lovers by music lovers.
The new S-Master MX digital amplifier greatly reduces noise and distortion level in your music, even if you’re listening to MP3 quality audio files.
This is one of 5 Clear Audio Technologies – S-Master MX, Clear Bass, Clear Stereo, DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), and EX headphones – which promises quality audio on-the-move.
A new W.BUTTON launches the W.Control app, which allows you to explore your music collection by flicking through the cover art viewing on-screen visualisations while the music plays.
SensMe sorts your music collection into 14 mood-themed channels to suit the time of day or the way you feel.

4.3-inch display, Android 2.3 OS.
The xLOUD speaker system of the Z1050 to offers a high level of clear sound reproduction from its built-in speaker – you can now listen in to your favourite tunes with friends and loved ones without a speaker dock.
The Walkman Z Series allows you to share your content at home and on the move wirelessly via Wi-Fi and connects to other DLNA-enabled devices.
Simply ‘throw’ your music, pictures and videos from your Walkman screen by ‘flicking’ them directly to compatible TVs, PCs, or home audio system to stream your media.
Connect the Walkman directly to your TV via the micro HDMI to enjoy your videos, photos and games on big screen.
Or connect via Bluetooth to compatible speakers, headphones, hi-fi systems or car stereos effortlessly with no wire clutter.
Below are the main technical specifications of the new Sony Walkman NWZ-Z1050.
