I had a quick hands-on on the GALAXY Tab 7.7 during the launch event, which also saw the launch of four other Samsung tablets and smartphones.

Samsung Electronics Co LtdThe launch of the GALAXY Tab 7.7 and Tab 7.0 Plus continues Samsung’s strategy of providing the whole spectrum of sizes for the customer, instead of dictating which is the single best size that they should adopt.

I like that approach. Depending on my personal preference and use case, I can choose which size tablet to purchase, ranging from the largest GALAXY Tab 10.1, to the smaller Tab 8.9, Tab 7.7, Tab 7.0, Tab 7.0 Plus, 5.3” Note.

The Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 fits snugly in the dainty palms of ladies and their handbag.

The Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet is a handful – just large enough to be held in one hand. With a 7.67” disuplay, it is slightly larger than the common 7” tablet form factor in the market but the difference is hardly noticeable.

The Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 is the world’s first tablet to feature the brilliant Super AMOLED Plus display technology that makes images look more vivid through a wider range of colours.

It is powered by a 1.4GHz dual core processor, and measures only 7.89 millimeters in thinness and 335 grams in weight.

Samsung’s Hub Services – Game Hub, Readers Hub and Social Hub – offers easy access to content including games, eBooks and music. The Game Hub is pre-loaded with easy social games with fast graphics.

Here are the main technical specifications of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 tablet.

I had a quick hands-on on the sleek looking smartphone. It felt really responsive and fast.

I was looking for glitches and bugs since it’s the first phone to feature the latest iteration of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, the phone didn’t miss a beat, even though I tried to load it with as many applications as I could on multi-tasking.

But then it’s only a short hands-on, so the verdict is still out.

First announced in November 2011, Samsung launched the GALAXY Nexus in Singapore as part of a line-up of 2 new tablets and 3 new smartphones to usher in the year.

The smartphone features a 4.65” HD Super AMOLED display at 720p resolution and a fast 1.2GHz dual core processor to take advantage of its enhanced multitasking capabilities.

A user interface has been redesigned with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot and NFC support, as well as a full web browsing experience

Designed to provide a “pure Google” experience, GALAXY Nexus will be the first to receive software upgrades and new applications as soon as they become available.

Mr Postman delivers: Leica V-Lux 3

Monday, December 19th, 2011

The courier dropped off the Leica V-Lux 3 compact digital camera today for review. The new compact had just been announced last week and will be available from January 2012 at S$1,345.

The Leica V-Lux 3 was announced on 13 December 2011.

The review unit came in a black velvet pouch. In it was the camera itself, a battery and a charger with cable.

The camera is light but muscular for a compact but it pacts a 24x optical zoom lens that goes from 25 – 600mm (35mm equivalent focal lengths).

The Leica V-Lux 3 will be available in January 2012 for S$1,345.

The Leica V-Lux 3 will be available in January 2012 for S$1,345.

The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit ASPH super telephoto zoom lens has an aperture range of f/2.8 – 5.2.

The camera has a 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor and records full-HD video in AVCHD format with 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 full frames per second.

What caught my eye was the 460,000-pixel 3” LCD display that is fully articulated. It can be folded out to face any direction to allow the photographer to shoot from awkward angles.

I’ll be trying out the camera over the holiday period to see whether its performance matches its good looks.
