First released in the US during CES 2012 in January this year, and then announced during MWC 2012 in February for markets outside the US, Nokia’s third Lumia smartphone will be in Singapore for S$849 from 26 May 2012.

Nokia has created a “white” themed playlist on Mix Radio to celebrating the white Lumia 800 smartphone.

Yearning for some tunes to go along with the new, sleek, snow-white Nokia Lumia 800?

Start white-listing your favourite songs as you go through the interesting selection of tracks in the playlist.

Nokia ventures into China with Lumia smartphones

China Telecom and Nokia have launched the first CDMA Windows phones in China. The Nokia 800C will be available for purchase in April at 3599 RMB (S$718) without contract; while the more affordable Nokia 600C will be available sometime in Q2 2012.

The Nokia 800C will be Nokia’s first Lumia phone for China – the world’s largest smartphone market. It is the CDMA variant of the Windows Phone-based Lumia 800.

China will see sales of up to 140 million smartphones this year. This is an increase of more than 80%, propelling China past the U.S. as the world’s largest smartphone market, according to researcher Gartner Inc. The Nokia 610C (CDMA variant of Lumia 610, price to be announced) will target more youthful audience and will provide a perfect introduction to Windows Phone with access to the same core signature experiences as the rest of the Lumia range

China Telecom is offering the Nokia 800C in black and cyan.

Nokia is also working on phones for networks operated by China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd. and
China Mobile Ltd, reported Bloomberg.

The smartphone features a 3.7″ AMOLED ClearBlack curved touchscreen display.

With a 1.4 GHz processor, hardware acceleration and a separate graphics processor, it also features an instant-share 8 Mpx camera with Carl Zeiss optics, HD video playback, 16GB of internal user memory and SkyDrive storage for accessing pictures and files from anywhere.

China Telecom and Nokia are targeting young people by integrating music, games, videos, and integrated reading apps right onto the Nokia 800C home screen.

To reach this target market, the Nokia 800C will be featured prominently in Tianyi FlyYoung shops, a distribution arm and new, youth-centered sub-brand of China Telecom.

People purchasing Nokia Lumia  smartphones in China will have access to applications such as magazines from Trends and special offers for free downloads of popular gaming titles such as Fruit Ninja and PVZ.

Trends, a provider of highly interactive fashion magazine applications, will launch Cosmopolitan first for Nokia Lumia smartphones and provide people using a Nokia Lumia phone with free access to For Him Magazine (FHM), Harper’s Bazaar and Esquire magazines in Marketplace, opening today.

As an added incentive for  people using a Nokia Lumia smartphone in China, Nokia will soon offer 100,000 free downloads of the hit gaming titles Fruit Ninja and PVZ through the Nokia Collection in Marketplace.

Nokia and Microsoft also announced the Be Top program, which is designed to encourage and support developers in creating great new applications on Windows Phone specifically for people in China.

Nokia will offer Lumia users access to all major Internet services in China including Sina, SOHU, Tencent and Renren as well as a choice of nearly 20,000 apps available for download through Marketplace.

Delivers a full-fledged personal navigation device with free, voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation for over 100 countries including China.

It has a dedicated in-car user-interface, free offline navigation and speed notifications.

Nokia Music

Offers a single hub experience for discovering the latest music, including unlimited free music for 12 months for consumers in mainland China.

It also includes MixRadio, a free, global, mobile music-streaming application that delivers hundreds of channels of locally-relevant music, including the ability to listen to music offline and build personalized mixes for listening to favourite music from any location.

Here is a round-up of Nokia’s new phones for 2012, as released during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.

These are the Nokia Lumia 610 & Lumia 900 ( releasing outside US), 808 PureView, and the Asha 202, 203 & 302.

The four-day MWC 2012 in Barcelona is being preceded by a slew of press conferences from major phone-makers about their directions and new gadgets for 2012.

Having launched the Lumia series of smartphones (Lumia 810 & 710) using Windows Phone operating system, many are watching how Nokia are progressing from their previous portfolio.

CEO Stephen Elop says that Windows Phone will be Nokia’s primary smartphone platform, with additional emphasis on location-based services through the launch of its Location & Commerce business.

Here are the main new mobile phones from Nokia for 2012.

  • New Nokia Lumia 610, the most affordable Lumia smartphone (189 Euros, Q2 2012).
  • LTE (with 42 Mbps download-capable) Nokia Lumia 900 to be available outside the U.S (480 Euros, Q2 2012).
  • Nokia 808 PureView for high-end smartphone imaging with 41-megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss optics and full HD 1080p video recording (450 Euros, May 2012).
  • New Nokia Asha Symbian feature phones and services grow increasingly “smarter”. Asha 302 (95 Euros), Asha 202 (with Dual SIM) and Asha 203, the latter two at 60 Euros.

Nokia and AT&T announced the Nokia Lumia 900 at the 2012 International Consumer Electronic’s Show (CES) – the first Windows Phone 7 smartphone from Nokia to feature high speed LTE connectivity.

Large screen, large bandwidth and “large” camera – Lumia 900 will be larger than life.

With Nokia’s largest display, the Nokia Lumia 900 delivers a rich content experience from a phone that still fits easily in your hand.

The Nokia Lumia 900 has a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack Display, for rich, bright images both indoors and out in the sun.

The camera will put greater pressure on compact cameras. The 8-megapixel camera comes with a large aperture of f/2.2 and wide angle at 28mm. Add to this a Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash, it will the owner greater impetus to leave the compact camera at home.

Video is so-so, with hi-res video capture at 720p/30fps. A second, front-facing 1-megapixel camera for video calls has an f/2.4 lens and 30fps capture.

CES 2012 roundup: Smartphones

Here’s a quick round-up of smartphones announced prior to the four-day CES 2012 (10-13 January 2012) being held in Nevada, Las Vegas. Offerings from LG, Huawei, Nokia and Sony.

LG from Korea has unveiled the Spectrum, which runs on Android 2.3 (upgradeable to 4.0) and has a 4.5” full HD display, a 1.5 Ghz processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

Huawei from China has announced the Android 4.0 Ascend P1 and Ascend P1 S, which will be available in Asia Pacific in April 2012.

The Huawei Ascend P1 S is the slimmest smartphone in the world in the 4.3” smartphone class, measuring just 6.68mm at its slimmest point; while the Huawei Ascend P1 measures at 7.69mm thin.

Both have Super AMOLED screen with Corning Gorilla Glass.

Sony from Japan has announced Xperia S, its first next generation smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series, after it bought over Ericsson’s 50% stake in the former Sony-Ericsson joint venture.

The Xperia S has a 4.3-inch 1280×720 screen, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 12-megapixel camera.

It will be available globally from Q1 2012 with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2 2012.

Nokia from Finland has announced the Lumia 900 for the US market. It will basically be another Lumia 800 but with a bigger screen and battery, as well as LTE.

For its launch of the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, Nokia has made it clear that it is not just launching these two handsets.

Instead, it is launching a holistic mobile experience for the smartphone user – from the hardware performance to the software user interface, right down to the ecosystem of applications for users and development tools and environment for developers.

The launch event was a testimony to this holistic approach.

There were customized sessions to woo different segments of that ecosystem.

The first session of the day was a “fireside chat” where Nokia and Microsoft executives briefed developers how they are developing and building the ecosystem.

Nokia is working with global and local developers to create new, innovative and differentiated apps and content for all Nokia devices.

Emphasis has been placed on supporting local developers transition to develop for the Windows Phone platform.

Key executives from both Nokia and Microsoft were on hand for interviews to go into details with their plans for the Singapore market and their local focus, as well as the product specifications for the Nokia Lumia range of products.

The launch event was wrapped up with a bum-boat ride to Clark Quay for a party at Read Bridge.
