Nikon Singapore will be organising “I AM NIKON DAY” on the weekend of 28-29 April at the Raffles City Convention Centre. The event is free and open to all photography enthusiasts.

Walk-in auditions for The Big Shot Season 3 will also take place at the same venue during the photography weekend.

Nikon’s Professional Photographers (such as award winning photographer Stefen Chow) and guest photographers will be speaking at the photography weekend, sharing their experience and expertise on a range of topics for beginner photographers and seasoned amateurs.

Speakers include past winners of “The Big Shot Season 1” (Liew Tong Leng) and “The Big Shot Season 2” (Affandy Razak).

Some 100 Samsung Global Bloggers (SGB) from around the world will get to travel to London for the Olympic Games and share their personal experiences on a specially created blog.

SGB hopefuls will have to go through a two-round audition process that will judge them on the ability to seek out exciting stories happening in London and generate buzz about the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The audition calls for the submission of a 30 second video stating why the entrant should be picked to come to London.

The video will be judged on the entrant’s creativity and enthusiasm.

“Since its inaugural launch at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Games, SGB has developed into a truly global program, encouraging participation from more countries than ever before, and expanding its reach through an integrated global digital platform,” said Sunny Hwang, Vice President & Head of Global Sports Marketing at Samsung Electronics.Those who get through to the second round will be putting together a video report, before the final lucky winners are selected by a celebrity judging panel to come on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to London.

Singapore editor wins Mishmash Asia prize

Singapore-based freelance editor Christie Madley was awarded a local prize for submitting the best entry in South-East Asia & Hong Kong. Her video art – Lilac Chaser – is a unique mix of experimental movement that creates a hallucinatory sensation.

The Mishmash music/video/remix competition received 300 entries from more than 50 countries around the world over a two months period that started in January.

Getty Images has announced the five winners of the annual competition.

“So colourful and meaningful!” was how jury member and leading Bollywood film producer Aashish Singh from Yash Raj Films described Madley’s entry.Each of the winning entries cleverly blurred the lines between imagery and video to create works which both impressed and challenged the judges with their creativity, story-telling techniques, slick editing and innovative subject matter.

The competition was judged by 29 of the world’s leading music, technology and film production professionals.

“Very unique, very original,” commented Toshiya Kono, Creative Director of Hakuhodo DY Media Partners Japan, on Madley’s remix.Mishmash entrants could choose to enter one of three categories: short story, music video or video art.

Each film, which needed to be between one and three minutes long, was created using Getty Images video, music and imagery content.

Getty Images announced today the rebranding of the Grants for Good as Getty Images Creative Grants. Two grants of $15,000 are up for grabs. Applications close on 1 March.

The rebranded Getty Images Creative Grants will increase emphasis on the innovative use of creative and conceptual imagery and film.

“Nonprofits need compelling creative content to effectively tell their stories and stand out from the documentary style traditionally associated with the nonprofit sector,” said Andrew Saunders, Senior Vice President of Creative Content for Getty Images. “Together with creative agencies and content creators these organizations can leverage innovative conceptual imagery to raise awareness around critical world issues.”Fostering the collaboration between photographers and filmmakers with agency creatives and nonprofits, the grants will fund the creation of a compelling visual campaign that promotes positive change.

In addition to the cash prize, the winning photographer-agency or filmmaker-agency team will have the opportunity to leverage the expertise of Getty Images’ art directors, photo editors and producers to execute the project.

The grants will be awarded by independent judges, each selected by Getty Images based on their  industry standing and experience.

Applications will be evaluated against criteria which include the strength and concept of the portfolio imagery as well as the level of collaboration between the creative communications agency and the nonprofit, to create a compelling visual narrative.

Winners will be announced in June at the 2012 Cannes Lions Advertising Festival.

The Leica Oskar Barnack Award will be presented for the 33rd time this year. The winner will receive a Leica M9-P camera with lens worth approximately €10,000, in addition to a cash prize of €5,000.

“This year, I will personally love to see more works from passionate photographers in Asia,” commented Sunil Kaul, Managing Director of Leica Camera Asia Pacific.A second honour in the course of the competition will be awarded in the category ‘Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award’, for (prospective) professional photographers aged 25 and under.

The winner of the first prize in this section will also be awarded a Leica M9-P complete with lens.

An international jury awards the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award to photographers who capture and express the relationship between people and their environment in graphic form in a portfolio of up to 12 images.

Submissions must be a self-contained series of images in which the photographer perceives and documents the interaction between people and their environment with acute vision and contemporary visual style – creative, unobtrusive and groundbreaking.

The members of this year’s jury include:

15-year-old Fiona Fussi will represent Singapore in the Elite World finals on 6 December 2011 in Shanghai and compete with 80 others for a modelling contract with Elite Paris worth up to US$350,000.

Both first and second runners-up, 18-year-old Putri Diana Abdullah and 16-year-old Louise Arild will be flown to Paris and London respectively for an all expense paid trip to cast in the two offices.

They emerged from the 13 finalists at last night’s Elite Model Look Singapore 2011 Finals at the Red Dot Design Museum.

The winner was 175 cm tall Fiona Fussi, a 15-year-old Singapore resident of Hong Kong and Austrian descent.

The first runner-up was 175 cm tall Putri Diana Abdullah, an 18-year-old Singaporean. The second runner-up was 177 cm tall Louise Arild, a 16-year-old Dane.

In addition to the three Elite Model Look Singapore winners, the Blueprint Runway Model Award 2011, representing Singapore’s fashion industry across Asia and the world, was presented to the 178 cm tall Maddie Cox, a 15-year-old British.

The Elite Model Look Singapore 2011 competition saw over 300 online applications and close to 1000 applicants throughout casting sessions leading up to the semi-finals which unveiled 45 contestants from various ethnicities.

13 finalists showcased the Guess 2012 Spring Collection of sportswear, swimwear, ready-to-wear and evening wear in the Finals at the Red Dot Design Museum.
