Shopee introduces free shipping and launches Shopee University

Shipping costs can now be reimbursed with Shopee Free Shipping and users will receive greater support through Shopee University and the platform’s latest innovations.

Shopee, Garena’s eCommerce platform, today launched two initiatives—Shopee Free Shipping (Beta) and Shopee University, as well as announced product innovation updates at its inaugural Biannual Press Conference.

Bunk beds for Shopee employees to catch a power nap over lunch or overnight in the Shopee HQ office in Fusionopolis in Singapore. Beside this room is the #massage room with a full-time masseuse to give staff a rub down.

This marks the beginning of an important growth strategy that the mobile-first social marketplace is commencing for the months ahead.

With these initiatives and product innovations, Shopee aims to build a more holistic and robust customer-to-customer (C2C) social marketplace which will further empower individuals to buy and sell on its platform.

These plans come on the back of Garena’s recent announcement that it raised USD170 Million in Series D Funding which will be used to accelerate regional market leadership across its digital content, payment, and ecommerce platforms which include Shopee.

Official Launch of Shopee Free Shipping (Beta)

Shopee Free Shipping (Beta) was launched today as part of the platform’s growth strategy to empower individuals, especially entrepreneurs to start their businesses on the platform.

“Shopee University is an entrepreneurship development initiative aimed at empowering individuals to grow their businesses on Shopee and enhance their eCommerce management skills,” said Ander Orcasitas, Managing Director of Shopee Singapore.

Sellers can now register in-app to get their shipping costs reimbursed by Shopee and buyers can look forward to discovering deals with greater savings on shipping costs.

Shipping costs applies to normal mail capped at S$2.

With Shopee as a free-to-use platform, Shopee Free Shipping further lowers barriers to entry for all, making buying and selling easier, secure, and more fuss-free than ever.

Launch of Shopee University

Also part of Shopee’s growth strategy, Shopee University was officially launched today.

“With this new curriculum developed based on the best practices of Shopee’s top sellers’ entrepreneurship skills, we are very excited to be able to impart these valuable knowledge to other sellers within the community. With more in-depth topics around Shopee’s extensive features as well as tips on online marketing and photography, we are confident that these classes will benefit our sellers greatly,” added Orcasitas.

The initiative is aimed at empowering individuals to grow their businesses on the platform and helping sellers develop ecommerce management skills, as well as act as a community for fellow sellers to share their experiences with each other.

The brand new curriculum is developed based on the best practices of Shopee’s top sellers’ entrepreneurship skills, featuring more in-depth topics including Online Marketing, and Photography, amongst other topics which were previously not available when it soft launched last December.

These classes will take place once every two weeks and individuals can register to attend, as well as receive more information in-app.
