New PayPal mobile SDK help Singapore businesses go mobile
PayPal partners with local merchants to create seamless mobile app experiences and to solve business productivity challenges.
“With smartphone adoption growing and smart devices become more integral to our daily lives, it is more important than ever for businesses to adopt mobile strategies with flawless purchasing experiences,” said Lawrence Chan, Vice President of Merchant Services, Asia Pacific and General Manager for Southeast Asia and Japan, PayPal.
PayPal has announced the general availability of its new mobile software development kit (SDK) in Singapore.
“In 2013, PayPal processed $27 billion in mobile payments globally, so we understand the challenges and opportunities of capturing the mobile market. We are excited to be announcing the launch of the new mobile SDK in Singapore, which offers businesses a simple and secure way to accept mobile payments, as well as the innovation to push the boundaries of mobile commerce and drive productivity,” Chan added.
The new mobile SDK eliminates app redirects, provides a one-time sign-in for future payments and enables both PayPal and credit card payment processing options.
With this, consumers can make seamless and secure payments across their favourite apps in just a few clicks.
PayPal is announcing the launch with four merchant partners which will be the first local businesses in Singapore to go live with the mobile SDK:
Coastes
HotelQuickly
My Laundry Box

Key Features of the new mobile SDK
Accept PayPal payments: Consumers can pay securely and conveniently by logging into their PayPal accounts, without entering their credit card and personal information to make a simple purchase.
Native user experience: Customers enjoy a seamless payment experience on the app, without being redirected to another page to make payments.
Future payments: Once customers link their PayPal account to the app, they do not have to login to their account every time they want to pay with PayPal. This eliminates the need for usernames and passwords each time you pay, while maintaining the trust and security that customers expect from PayPal.
“PayPal’s new mobile SDK was also built on our belief that developers need the freedom to innovate for customers, instead of worrying about the complexities with payments. As the largest, most trusted global payments company around the globe, we believe nobody can grow with a developer’s business the way that PayPal can. With 152 million active accounts in 203 markets around the world, PayPal enables global commerce, processing more than nine million payments each day. And, we do it securely so that developers do not need to worry about managing complex issues like fraud or compliance requirements,” said Chan.
Coastes, a beach bar along Sentosa’s Siloso Beach, recently launched their digital menu app with PayPal’s mobile SDK, allowing patrons to place their orders and pay the bill from their tables or deck chairs.
“We’re happy to work with PayPal closely to make our payment experience even more seamless and hassle-free. With PayPal’s mobile SDK, we have been able to reimagine ways to deliver lasting customer experiences and remodel internal processes that enable our people to focus on higher value-adding activities, such as engaging customers to provide a holistic service experience,” says Heather Seow, Managing Director, Coastes.
Since the introduction of the app, Coastes Singapore has seen a significant rise in productivity.
The ordering process has become faster – taking an average 1.6 minutes from a previous 5.2 minutes, resulting in a 69% increase in time saved for ordering and making payment.
The business has also seen a 30% increase in customer return visit rate and a 20% increase in revenue.

A recent survey by PayPal showed the way mobile is transforming the way we shop and pay in Singapore, with two in three Singaporeans having made online payments on a mobile device.
“Coastes was looking to differentiate itself from its competitors and approached us to design a new customer experience to support their growth, including a digital menu and mobile customer app. ” said Wee Zihuan, Managing Partner of digital innovation consultancy Savant Degrees
The survey also found that Singaporeans feel that they spend too much time on activities such as queuing in lines, long commutes, getting held up in traffic, and simply getting through daily errands.
72 per cent of Singaporeans said they were tired of queues, and close to half (42 per cent) rank having to wait in line as the top complication they wish to get rid of in their lives.
More than half of those who responded (52 per cent) say they waste hours each day that they would like help regaining.
In addition, about one in three (36 per cent) in Singapore want technology to take away some of these obstacles, and make everything simpler and more connected.
“As the only company offering an in-app payment solution, PayPal was a natural payments choice for us. The mobile SDK was easy to integrate into Coastes’ existing point-of-sale system, so we were able to focus on designing a new ordering experience without having to worry about payments,” added Wee.
PayPal’s new mobile SDK empowers developers and businesses to create seamless mobile experiences for everyday customer needs.
This could be when buying a drink at a bar, getting the laundry done, arranging for an urgent delivery or booking a vacation.
With the launch of the mobile SDK, PayPal aims to be a partner for local merchants to help them tap into the mobile opportunity, and give their customers choice in how, when and where they want to pay.
At the same time, PayPal helps merchants leverage innovative technology to address everyday productivity and resource challenges.
