PayPal has announced the general availability of its new mobile software development kit (SDK) in Singapore.

“In 2013, PayPal processed $27 billion in mobile payments globally, so we understand the challenges and opportunities of capturing the mobile market. We are excited to be announcing the launch of the new mobile SDK in Singapore, which offers businesses a simple and secure way to accept mobile payments, as well as the innovation to push the boundaries of mobile commerce and drive productivity,” Chan added.

The new mobile SDK eliminates app redirects, provides a one-time sign-in for future payments and enables both PayPal and credit card payment processing options.

With this, consumers can make seamless and secure payments across their favourite apps in just a few clicks.

PayPal is announcing the launch with four merchant partners which will be the first local businesses in Singapore to go live with the mobile SDK:

  • Coastes
  • HotelQuickly
  • My Laundry Box
  • Dilivr.it.

Key Features of the new mobile SDK

  • Accept PayPal payments: Consumers can pay securely and conveniently by logging into their PayPal accounts, without entering their credit card and personal information to make a simple purchase.
  • Native user experience: Customers enjoy a seamless payment experience on the app, without being redirected to another page to make payments.
  • Future payments: Once customers link their PayPal account to the app, they do not have to login to their account every time they want to pay with PayPal. This eliminates the need for usernames and passwords each time you pay, while maintaining the trust and security that customers expect from PayPal.
“PayPal’s new mobile SDK was also built on our belief that developers need the freedom to innovate for customers, instead of worrying about the complexities with payments. As the largest, most trusted global payments company around the globe, we believe nobody can grow with a developer’s business the way that PayPal can. With 152 million active accounts in 203 markets around the world, PayPal enables global commerce, processing more than nine million payments each day. And, we do it securely so that developers do not need to worry about managing complex issues like fraud or compliance requirements,” said Chan.

Coastes, a beach bar along Sentosa’s Siloso Beach, recently launched their digital menu app with PayPal’s mobile SDK, allowing patrons to place their orders and pay the bill from their tables or deck chairs.

“We’re happy to work with PayPal closely to make our payment experience even more seamless and hassle-free. With PayPal’s mobile SDK, we have been able to reimagine ways to deliver lasting customer experiences and remodel internal processes that enable our people to focus on higher value-adding activities, such as engaging customers to provide a holistic service experience,” says Heather Seow, Managing Director, Coastes.

Since the introduction of the app, Coastes Singapore has seen a significant rise in productivity.

The ordering process has become faster – taking an average 1.6 minutes from a previous 5.2 minutes, resulting in a 69% increase in time saved for ordering and making payment.

The business has also seen a 30% increase in customer return visit rate and a 20% increase in revenue.
