Every month of the year, we see a major online sale eg. 9.9, 10.10, 11.11 sales. For October’s 10.10 sale, the bargain has got to be the Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8-inch tablet which is going for less than half its original launch pricing from a year ago.

The best bargain for Huawei’s 10.10 online sale and year-end promotions is the MatePad Pro 10.8-inch tablet.

My wife has been using the Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8” tablet since it was launched in August last year.

At launch, its RRP was S$998, excluding S$206 for the optional Flip Cover (S$58) and Huawei M-Pencil (2nd generation, S$148).

Huawei MatePad Pro 10.8” Tablet

The MatePad Pro 10.8” tablet came with top-notch hardware specs when it was first launched last year, with 16:10 ultra-wide 2K Huawei FullView Display, 16GB memory and 256GB storage, and a massive 7,250mAh battery.

One year on, the tablet is still running smoothly at high speed and low latency (thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset), and its battery life has not seemed to have degraded in any noticeable amount, despite the high usage that my wife puts it through.

My wife has been using this MatePad Pro since its launch last year and it’s still as zippy as new, in terms of performance and battery life.

She mainly uses it to scribble notes and ideas and to write the novel that she plans to publish, with the help of the Huawei Smart Magnetic Keyboard (S$198) and free Nebo app.

She also uses the M-Pencil as well as Sketches and Krita app for her digital art sketches.

Apart from these two main uses, she uses the tablet to surf the net, browse through Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram; do her messaging via Gmail and Whatsapp; and watch videos on YouTube and movies online.

The WQXGA 2560 x 1600 display has a high 540-nit brightness, and a high screen-to-body ratio of 90% because of the narrow 4.9mm bezel.

The compact and slim size means that the 460g tablet fits easily into her handbag or knapsack.

The MatePad Pro itself is Midnight Grey in colour while the Smart Magnetic Keyboard doubles up as a tablet cover with an elegant dark grey fabric appearance.

The lack of Google Mobile Services means she can’t install the respective Google apps, but she has no problems accessing these apps via the in-built browser and the Opera browser which she installed.

She uses her Gmail, Google Keep, Drive, Photos, YouTube etc on a daily basis.

The Multi-Window and App Multiplier features enable her to maximise the large display by squeezing up to 4 apps/windows simultaneously for greater productivity.

The collaboration capabilities of the MatePad Pro means that she can use the tablet in conjunction with other Huawei laptops and phones, either as a mirrored display, or extended external display, and to drag and drop files between the devices.

How is the battery performance like on the Matepad pro?

The battery performance is exemplary. On paper, the 7,250mAh battery is rated at 11hrs of uninterrupted web browsing on a single charge. Through experience, on intensive use, it can last for up to two days. My wife usually charges it once every 4-5 days.

A 22.5W charger is included in the box which gets the battery from 0 to 100% in less than two hours. You can separately purchase a 40W SuperCharge charger that can charge the battery from zero to full in 90 minutes.

The MatePad Pro supports 27W wireless charging and up to 10W wireless reverse charging of other devices as well.
