Huawei has just launched its latest wireless Bluetooth speaker in Singapore. Co-engineered with audio expert Devialet, the Sound Joy offers good punchy sound, long playback battery life and IP67 waterproofing/dustproofing rating to deploy the speaker in the fun outdoors.
The Huawei Sound Joy will be launching exclusively on Lazada at an introductory promotion of S$168 (U.P. S$188). Available from 11 July 2022.
The Huawei Sound Joy is targeted at the young who are active outdoors and need a portable and chic wireless speaker that produces powerful sound and which can withstand the elements.
The Sound Joy comes in two colours, the boring Obsidian Black and the lovely Spruce Green which I prefer.

The coloured light circle on top of the Sound Joy jazzes up the wireless speaker and complements the vibrating passive radiators.
With a length of 202mm and diameter of 73mm, and mass of 680g — the speaker is about the size and weight of a water bottle.
Co-engineered with Devialet, it features the audiohouse’s 2-way speaker system and its Devialet SAM technology which produces good sound quality for any audio type.
Tuned by Devialet for exceptional clarity, the Sound Joy has a 1+1+2 speaker system and 2-way acoustic system.

Its 10W Silk Dome Tweeter produces frequencies up to 20kHz (-10 dB) and can reach a maximum volume of 79 dBA@2m.
The 20W runway full range speaker supports a high-power output of 20W despite its small size.
Leveraging the Push-Push technology, two passive radiators are placed on both ends of the speaker to completely eliminate vibrations, improve stability and enhance sound clarity.

The supported frequency range of HUAWEI Sound Joy is divided into high frequency and mid frequency, which enables the device to deliver loud, clean high-frequency sounds and deep low-frequency sounds at a high volume.
The Sound Joy has a huge 8,800mAh battery that offers a battery life of 26 hours, after charging for three hours.
Its 40W fast charging can provide an hour of playback with 10 minutes of charging.
The Huawei Sound Joy is a good portable, wireless speaker for the young and active. With powerful sound co-engineered with Devialet, the Sound Joy is ruggedised with IP67 rating to withstand the active lifestyle of the adventurous.
For large parties, the Sound Joy can be paired with another Sound Joy for stereo music.
Pairing up is easy through the Shake Stereo Link Up, where you shake both speakers simultaneously to pair them up quickly.
One-Touch Transfer through NFC transfers the entire song from the source device to the speaker to ensure undisrupted playback.
Automatic Discovery prompts compatible devices in the vicinity of the Sound Joy to connect via Bluetooth.
The speaker can be controlled via its Voice Assistant for simple tasks like making a call or sending a text.
Playback can be controlled from Huawei’s smartwatches.
What’s important for the active youth is the ability of the speaker to withstand the occasional splash and a sandy beach environment.
The IP67 rating of the Sound Joy means that it can be brought to the beach, pool or shower.
The speaker can be used lying flat or standing upright.
On the top end of the Sound Joy is a multi-colour ring light that indicates the volume and battery level of the speaker, as well as other status indications such as when the speaker is paired in stereo mode, or when there’s an ongoing call, or when the speaker is restored to factory settings.

What does the IP67 rating protect it from. What if I accidentally drop it into the pool?
This Sound Joy is not a professional waterproof speaker. It is splash-proof, water-resistant and dust-proof for typical usage, and it has been tested under controlled laboratory conditions to achieve IP67 rating under IEC 60529 standards. Its splash, water and dust resistance is not permanent and the protection effectiveness may deteriorate due to daily wear and tear. Do not charge the speaker in wet conditions, and damage due to immersion in liquid is not covered by the warranty. Waterproof conditions for IP67 are (1) still and clear water, water depth under 1 metre; (2) test time 30 minutes; (3) difference between water temperature and product temperature is not more than 5 degrees Celsius.
