Sony has unveiled a new 4K digital cinema projector, the SRX-R510P, at CineAsia 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The SRX-R510P 4K Digital Cinema Projector will be available across Asia Pacific from February 2014 onwards.Following the success of Sony’s SRX-R515P model, the SRX-R510P – with its lower investment and operating costs – is ideal for cinema operators looking to deliver the excellent small screen experience.

Many movie theatres around the world have already adopted 4K technology to position themselves for the future, due to the truly immersive visual experience that 4K offers.

Major Hollywood film companies have established 4K as the next-generation standard for film screenings and distribution, and professional cameras like Sony’s CineAlta F65 are gaining popularity due to their superior 4K picture quality and outstanding contrast.

SRX-R510P Key Features

  • True 4K projection ideal for independent or small screen cinemas
  • SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) optical engine
  • High contrast ratio of more than 4000:1
  • 9,000 lumens brightness (with 450W lamp option)
  • Immersive 3D by adding an easy-to-fit optional dual lens and filter pack
  • 4-lamp system of High Pressure Mercury (HPM) lamps in individual cartridges, for easier and safer lamp replacement compared to using Xenon lamps

Superior Picture Quality

The SRX-R510P projector is equipped with SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) chips that enable it to provide stunning picture quality and extremely high resolution of 4096 × 2160 pixels, four times that of Full HD (1920 × 1080).

The improved optical engine uses Sony’s proprietary technologies to effectively reduce light leakage, so that contrast levels remain high for reproducing deeper blacks and vivid details, staying true to the film-maker’s original creative intent.

Suitable for Viewing Smooth 3D

Sony’s SRX-R510P 4K digital cinema projection system continues the use of Sony’s 3D system, achieved through the projection of full sequence frames for both the left and right eye simultaneously.

Lower Operating Costs

Like Sony’s SRX-R515P, the SRX-R510P employs high-pressure mercury (HPM) lamps as a light source.

The SRX-R510P’s light source system is internally composed of four HPM lamps, with the option of either 450W or 350W lamps, providing an average light output of 9,000 lumens and 6,600 lumens respectively.

The projector provides a longer lamp-exchange cycle, and using HPM lamps in individual cartridges result in lower lamp costs plus easier and safer installation or removal compared to Xenon lamps.

The number of combinations of light bulbs is very flexible and can be tailored according to the screen size.

The SRX-R510P’s digital cinema server is built with a capacity of up to 4TB RAID 6 disk array systems, plus supports the playback of both DCI standard JPEG2K DCP (Digital Cinema Package) files as well as MPEG2 format digital movies.
