The BlackBerry Q5 (SGD$528 without line contract) will be available in Singapore on 2 August in Black and Pure White from M1, SingTel and StarHub. The Red version is not available in Singapore.
The Q5 comes with the classic BlackBerry physical keypad and is the younger sibling of the Q10.
It occupies the market segment previously held by BlackBerry’s Curve series, and is targeted at the young and fun-loving crowd.
Hands-on
The Q5 comes with the latest version 10.1 of BlackBerry 10 OS and includes features such as BlackBerry Hub for one-stop social/messaging updates; camera with Time Shift mode and BlackBerry Story Maker app; as well as BBM Video and Screen Share.
The smartphone felt responsive and fast while typing was easy with the QWERTY keypad.
The keys felt rather soft though, without the same amount of tactile feel and key travel compared to the Q10.
The smartphone has a 3.1” IPS LCD square touchscreen (720 x 720 @ 329ppi) and an embedded 2180 mAh battery.
The Q5 runs on a Dual Core 1.2GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal memory (4.3GB available to user), with a hot-swappable microSD slot for up to an additional 32GB of external memory.
The 5-megapixel rear camera (with LED flash) does 1080p HD video recording while the 2MP front camera records 720p HD video.
Apart from Singapore, the Q5 will also be available in selected markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia (including the Asia Pacific region), and Latin America,
