Ong Radio Group launched the McIntosh McAire in Singapore last Friday, timing its debut in Singapore with the 76th anniversary of the high-end home entertainment system distributor and retailer.
The McIntosh McAire features Apple’s AirPlay wireless technology which allows users to stream audio from an iTunes library on a Mac or PC – or music from an iOS device – over an existing Wi-Fi network at home or an executive suite.
Each McAire unit is built with the same high end technology used in McIntosh’s super premium reference system.
Ong Radio Group is the exclusive distributor for McIntosh in Singapore and is also the latter’s longest serving partner – with 54 years behind their collaboration.
Founded in 1929 in Singapore and formally registered in 1937, Ong Radio Group is staffed with in-house system designers who provide custom-engineered solutions to equip customers homes and living spaces with high-end audio systems, private home theatres, multi-zone music & movie systems and fully integrated “Smart Home” solutions.
The integrated music system includes two 4-inch woofers with dual acoustic porting, two 2-inch inverted dome midrange drivers and two 0.75-inch dome tweeters for the promise of room-filling sound.
Tipping the scales at 14 kg, the McAire measures 49.2 x 20.3 x 43.2 cm – including the antenna and connectors.
It has a frequency response of 60 Hz to 45 kHz, and crossover frequency of 250 Hz and 4,500 Hz.
In addition to Ethernet (10/100 Base-T) wired or Wi-Fi network connectivity and Apple AirPlay technology, the system also features USB input for playing tunes from a physically-connected player or for charging of iDevices (1 amp).
For non-iOS devices, a Focal Bluetooth adaptor that plugs into the USB socket is included in the retail price to enable connection via Bluetooth.
Other sources or MP3 players can be connected via the auxiliary input.
For NAS media streaming devices, you can use iTunes on your laptop to play back the track and enjoy the music from the McAire via the Wi-Fi network.
It also has stereo RCA auxiliary inputs with 200 mVRMS nominal (max) input sensitivity and a maximum input signal of 2.2 VRMS.
The system is compatible with iPod touch (3rd and 4th gen) and iPhone (3GS, 4, 4S and 5) via AirPlay or USB, the iPad (first, second and third gen) over AirPlay only and USB only for the iPod Classic and nano (5th and 6th gen).
And, for a whole-home high fidelity music solution, multiple McAire units can be synced to a single source device for a multi-room continuous playback walk-through experience.

Is the Bluetooth adapter included when you buy the McAire, or must you buy it separately? If so, how much is that?
Yes, when you purchase the McAire, the price includes the adaptor which you can plug into the USB port behind the McAire to enable connection of non-iOS phones. The Focal adaptor can also be bought separately. Believe it’s S$100+.
Why do non-iOS devices need an adaptor to connect to the McAire? Can’t they connect via Wi-Fi?
