Review: Soul ST-XS2 True Wireless Earbuds for Sports

Ideal wireless earbuds for the fitness-conscious. Pretty design, snug fit, great sound quality. These were the earbuds of choice that saw my wife through the COVID-19 months and accompanied her on her morning jogs.

The Soul ST-SX2 is the earbuds-of-choice when it comes to true wireless earphones for the sporty – delivering good sound quality, a snug fit and easy usability.

With COVID-19 lockdown all around the world, the only workout we’re getting nowadays are the weights and rowing machine at home, and the jogs around the neighbourhood.

No more swims or visits to the gym.

I gave my wife the Soul ST-SX2 true wireless earbuds as a Mother’s Day gift – and she loves it!

I gave the Soul ST-XS2 to my wife as a Mother’s Day gift and she’s been stuck on them ever since – during her morning jogs.

When she resumes her daily commutes to work post-COVID, those earbuds will definitely escort her on those MRT rides – for both music and calls.

The basic functions for calls and music playback. Each bud has a pressable button.

The ST-XS2 is fantastic for jogging because of the tight fit – the earbuds stayed put while jogging and she hasn’t encountered any of the buds popping out throughout three months of use.

That’s thanks to the C-shaped ear hook on the buds.

What’s in the box. The Soul ST-XS2 comes with a charging case, differently-sized ear tips, Freebit Wingtips, a USB Type-C charging cable and a Carabiner for the case.

In the box are interchangeable eartips to ensure a secure fit.

The snug fit also keeps external sounds out, but there is a Transparency mode that enables her to hear surrounding sounds (like warning car horning) while jogging – for safety awareness.

The Transparent Audio mode is toggled by pressing the earbud longer than one second.

The ST-XS2 is water/sweat proof so it’s ok if she gets caught in the rain, or perspires like the rain.

The earbuds are designed with IPX7 weatherproof protection.

Connection is really easy and smooth, so it’s a breeze for her to connect the earbuds to the smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0.

The earbuds goes into Auto Pairing mode when it hasn’t been paired yet.

Once paired, the ST-XS2 connects to the phone almost instantaneously when they are taken out of the charging case.

The earbuds are compatible with both Siri and Google Assistant – simply press the button on the earbud three times to initiate.

In terms of sound quality, the Bluetooth 5.0 technology and AAC/SBC codecs deliver SOUL’s signature sound quality with clear treble and mid-range as well as powerful bass.

Battery life is also great with 25 hours on the go – the earbuds last for five hours fully charged while the case has enough juice to recharge the earphones four times.

* Here’s a tutorial on how to reset the earbuds.

Wow the price has dropped so much compared to launch price! Maybe it’s a good time to buy a pair.

yes the personal audio market is a very competitive one. There’s a promotional discount that’s why it’s so affordable. At S$80, it’s a very good price indeed.
