Both the SHARP Z2 (S$399) and SHARP MS1 (S$299) will be available from 29 October 2016 at M1, M1 exclusive distributors, selected Challenger stores, and authorized resellers.

This 5.5-inch Z2 boasts up to 30% less power consumption for users, with fast-charge technology that allows the 3,000mAh battery to be recharged up to 50% in 30 minutes.

Users can snap fast moving objects with its 16-megapixel Phase Detection Auto Focus Single lens camera.

The SHARP MS1 has high-resolution 13-megapixel front and rear cameras, with in-built back illuminated sensor, enabling sharp photos to be taken at night.

The SHARP MS1 also sports a stylish curved 3D Corning Gorilla glass.

Sharp was a leading smartphone maker in Japan but withdrew from the region four years ago.

“Southeast Asia has a large population with a high percentage of smartphone ownership. We discovered that there is a lot of diversity in user preference among smartphone users in the region, but interestingly, the needs of budget-conscious users have yet to be fully met. Our partnership with SHARP is a natural alliance given our aligned visions towards catering to our customers’ individual needs. We want to provide this particular market with smartphones that showcase SHARP Mobile’s advanced flagship technology and unique features, yet packaged at a mid-tier price point,” said Kathleen Goy, Head of Marketing, Commtiva Technology.

Its last foray into Singapore was when it previously launched the SH530U, SH631W and SH837W affordable Android smartphones here through its wireless distributor partner Brightstar Corp.

I remember being impressed with the thin bezel around the phone’s edges at that time.

Following the completion of Foxconn’s US$3.5billion acquisition of Sharp back in end March this year, Sharp’s handset business is now venturing overseas again into Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

Commtiva is the smartphone marketing arm of Taiwan multinational electronics contract manufacturing company Foxconn.

Commtiva is responsible for the local business development and sales channels in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and China.

Sharp’s first smartphone in this renewed venture was the flagship Aquos P1 that was launched in Taiwan back in July.
