Sony unveils ILCE-QX1 and DSC-QX30 lens cameras at IFA 2014

Sony has expanded its lens-style cameras with the new ILCE-QX1 and DSC-QX30 during a pre-IFA event in Berlin, Germany. The Japanese camera maker also added two fresh new colour options for the DSC-QX10.

Available in Singapore from October 2014.

Sony’s lens-style cameras combine the spontaneity and easy sharing of smartphones with the image quality of dedicated cameras.

These cameras are connected to the smartphone via Wi-Fi.

ILCE-QX1 lens camera

The ILCE-QX1 lets serious photographers make use of their E-mount / A-mount (requires LA-EA4 adaptor for A-mount lenses) lens collection – be it zoom, wide angle, tele or macro.

QX1 comes with built-in pop-up flash.

Users can exercise control over exposure, focus and shooting modes.

The camera’s APS-C size Exmor CMOS sensor has 20.1-megapixels works with Sony’s BIONZ X processor that now features improved area-specific noise reduction – producing low-noise images, even when shooting in near-darkness.

The big sensor inside the QX1 also creates pro-style ‘bokeh’ effects with creamy background blur – another trick that smartphones can’t match.

The QX1 comes with many features, including RAW recording and pop-up flash.

Superior Auto recognises dozens of different scenes – like landscapes or backlit portraits – adjusting camera settings accordingly.

The LCS-QXA Case and Strap Kit add a touch of luxury with its tough brown leather-look finish.

The QX1 is protected snuggly, with a choice of shoulder strap or belt-mounting options while you’re out and about.

DSC-QX30 lens camera

The compact DSC-QX30 comes with 30x optical zoom lens, aided by Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation that helps eliminate blurring.

Users can zoom from a wide angle 24mm shot to a huge 720mm (35mm equivalent) length at the telephoto end.

If you want to go bigger still, Clear Image Zoom blows things up to a massive 60x magnification.

The zoom power is matched by Lock-on AF and speedy continuous shooting at up to 10fps,.

The QX-30 shoots Full HD video at 60p frame rate.

PlayMemories Mobile app version 5.0

One-touch connection speeds by NFC for all lens-style cameras is faster than previously experienced, because of firmware upgrades for the QX100 and QX10 cameras and improvements to the PlayMemories Mobile app.

It’s easy to control each lens-style camera with the latest release of Sony’s free PlayMemories Mobile app version 5.0 for Android and iOS smartphones.

A new user interface simplifies the photography experience and makes one-handed operation much easier.

Framing shots on your phone is more intuitive thanks to on-screen gridlines that are now featured in the app.

GPS adds location information to images that’s transferred to your smartphone while shooting (Location info is not tagged in the images stored in the camera).

The camera shutter can now be fired from the touchscreen; and with photographs automatically transferred to your phone, you can share those memories instantly.
