Avaya is the Official Supplier of Network Equipment for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Avaya estimated that at any given time, up to 120,000 devices might be connected to its network.

On top of this, some 1,500 televisions would be broadcasting 36 HD IPTV channels, with 6,500 IP phones bringing seamless connectivity to volunteers and officials.

The Sochi Games was a landmark occasion for networking technology as the first Games to use IPTV and prominently feature wireless technology.

With its decade-long experience in supporting global sporting events, Avaya built the network infrastructure from scratch, so that content for the Games could be simultaneously uploaded and shared.

Avaya’s networking technology for Sochi 2014 hinges on two key aspects: simplicity and agility.

The Sochi Olympics network had to be deployed within a short timeframe and accommodate an ever-changing, dynamic environment.

To achieve this, Avaya built a network that spans 20 diverse and geographically dispersed territories to operate across competition venues, Olympic Villages, Media Centers, Celebration Centers and Technical Operations Centers.

The result was a network that could quickly resolve issues and handle sudden spikes in capacity.
