POTD: Celebrating Hari Raya Puasa with family and loved ones

How does a traditional Malay family celebrate Hari Raya Puasa? Rasyida Sam contributed these photos to let us take a peek.

This year’s Hari Raya is a special one for me as it is the first time I am going around introducing everyone to my fiancé, so it is a chance for them to get to know the soon-to-be new addition to the family who is also new to the culture. Photo/Captions by Rasyida Sam.

For Rasyida, Hari Raya Puasa, also known as the Eidul Fitri, is a great occasion and opportunity for her to be with family and loved ones.

“Hari Raya Puasa is probably the only time in the year when I get to meet extended family members and for everyone to catch up on what’s been happening – meet the newlyweds, newly engaged, newborns – and just be soaked in the atmosphere of the festivity,” shares Rasyida Sam.

Rasyida is a lover of food and culture.

Born and raised in Singapore, she identifies herself as a Malay native with decent culinary skills inheriting her mother’s and grandmother’s lontong and nasi lemak recipes.

She is a public relations consultant with a penchant for travels, the theatre and anything colourful.

She is engaged to a British national who is learning the ropes to integrate into a Singaporean Malay family.
