New Android smartphone: Sony Xperia Z showcased in Singapore

Unveiled only last week at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, the new flagship for Sony Mobile’s Xperia smartphones was showcased in Singapore to the regional media.

The Xperia Z and its smaller variant (Xperia ZL) will be available globally in Q1 2013. Prices are yet to be announced.

The Xperia Z will debut in Singapore on 1 March 2013. RRP: S$988 without contract.

You can pre-order at  the Xperia Store, Sony Stores and Sony Centres from 15-24 February and get a gift.

Xperia Z will be available in the above stores on 1 March and from all telco operators from March 2nd onwards, in black or white. The purple Xperia Z will be available one week after on 8 March.

The Xperia Z embodies leading edge technology that Sony had developed over the years for its wide range of electronic devices.

The Xperia Z will be available in Black, White or Purple (in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines).

Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 from its televisions, audio technology from its Walkman portable media players, and imaging technology from its cameras.

The Xperia Z sports a 5-inch, Full HD Reality Display, a 13-megapixel fast-capture camera, is NFC and 4G LTE capable, and runs on a 1.5GB Snapdragon S4 Pro asynchronous quad-core processor with 2GB RAM.

It ships with Android  4.1 (Jelly Bean) but will be upgraded to Android 4.2 further down the line.

The smaller Xperia ZL will be available in Black or White (Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines). In Vietnam, only the Black Xperia ZL will be available.

The slim 7.9mm body is both dust and water resistant (according to the IP55 and IP57 standards).

The Exmor RS for mobile sensor on the Xperia Z is the world’s first image sensor with High Dynamic Range (HDR) video for smartphones, giving clear images against strong backlight.

Instead of extreme contrast images where the highlights are washed out and the shadows are too dark, the tones are balanced out so that details from both extremes are still visible.

A Battery STAMINA Mode improves standby time by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the sreen is turned back on.

NFC enables the Xperia Z to share music, photos, and video from the smartphone to other NFC-enabled Sony devices, such as speakers, headphones and TVs.

Two new NFC-enabled headset were introduced – Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH20 and the Wireless Headset DR-BTN200M.
